I put my books away and stood up when class got dismissed. Everyone was already up and gone like a storm broke out. I was making my way towards the exit when I suddenly heard my name being called. I looked over my shoulder and saw Xander walking up to me. "I thought you already left." I told him. "Nah, I just had to catch up with someone before they left." He replied. "Can I give you a ride to the dorms, I have to pick up boys for tonight's game." He said opening the door for me to leave the building.
"Oh, yeah. I forgot you guys have a game tonight. But, thanks for the offer. My shift at the Diner starts in a few minutes." I told him. At first, I was confused when he suddenly grasped my hand and pulled me towards him. "You are on your way picking up the boys?" I heard a deep masculine voice asked making me turn around. Duncan just gave me a look over before he returned his concentration to Xander.
"Yeah, I'm also just going to give Zoey a ride to the Diner." Xander answered. "I'm heading that way, forgot my sports bag I can give her a ride and pick up the other boys on my way back." Duncan told him. "Sure sounds like a plan." Xander answered smiling while looking at me. "See you tomorrow, Zoey." He started to make his way. "Good luck with tonight." I told him. He only grinned at me.
"Come on." Duncan said showing me to his car. I looked at the weather and my body shivered at the realization that it was going to be a cold night. Winter was definitely just around the corner. "Can we please just stop at my dorm first, I need to get my leggings." I motioned towards the weather. Duncan lifted his eyes to the sky and then nodded. "Yeah, sure." I got in the car with him.
He pulled out the parking and drove over to the dorms. I jumped out, grabbed my books and hurried up the staircase towards my room. I dropped my books, grabbed my leggings and Duncan's white jacket that I borrowed the other day. I locked my door and made my way down the stairs, he opened the door for me and I got in. "That was fast." He commented putting the car in drive. "Don't want to keep you waiting." I told him handing him his jacket.
"Our game only starts in a few hours and are you sure you won't be needing the jacket for tonight? The weather is seriously rolling in and you only wear that Diner's dress which looks pretty thin." He answered focusing on the road. "I'll be fine." I assured him. "You sure? I won't die by not having the jacket for another day." He replied. "Well, everyone knows that it is your signature jacket."
"My sister bought me that jacket. Even after I saved money for it." He said. "She sounds like a good person." I replied looking out the window. "She is." I looked over at him when I heard the emotion in his voice. It was sad, almost like he was hurting. I let it go. "I didn't know that you are friends with Xander." He suddenly brought up. I snorted. "He doesn't really give a person a choice." I answered.
I looked at Duncan with surprise when I heard him chuckle. I didn't know where to begin to describe it, all I knew it was the first time I've heard him close to laughing or seen him smile. "Sounds like Xander." I smiled while looking out the window. "He is still one of the good guys." Duncan said making me look at him. "What does that supposed to mean?" I asked. "It is a gift to have him as a friend." He answered.
"And you are not a good person?" I asked noticing the Diner was coming into view. He bought the car to a stop in front of the Diner. "I won't say that I'm not a good buy, but I've done things that are not seen as good intentions." He answered looking at me. "Haven't we all?" The side of his mouth quirked up. "What could you've done that is not good? Added extra salt to a person's meal?" He asked making my giggle. His expression turned serious when he looked out the window. "Are you sure you don't want to borrow my jacket?" He asked again.
"I'm fine and I was always fine before we met." I started to open my door. "Yeah, but back then we were strangers now we are acquainted." He said. I bit back a smile. "Good luck with tonight's game." I told him starting to climb out. "And thanks for the ride." I thanked before shutting the door and making my way towards the entrance of the Diner. I glanced over my shoulder and watched him drive away, I reminded myself that he was trouble, but how come I couldn't wipe this smile from my face.
Brenda quirked an eyebrow when I entered the Diner smiling. "Hey, Brenda." I greeted. "You are early." She replied.
"Yeah, I got a ride." I told her as I made my way towards the back to get dressed for work. I stuffed my bag in my locker and made my way back to the front. I pulled out my notepad, grabbed two menus and made my way over to a table that was seated in the corner away from all the other tables. "Hi, my name is Zoey. What can I get you?" I didn't bother to look at the couple because I knew exactly who it was. He always bought his dates here and for some kind of twisted reason he decides to sit at one of my tables.
I took their order and handed it to the kitchen. "So, are you going to tell me who dropped you off?" Brenda asked when we were alone. "A guy from College." I answered her. "A guy?" She asked sounding surprised. "Yeah." I nodded. "Hmm, I always wondered if you knew the existence of the opposite sex." She said making me gap at her. "Just because I'm not a wildling like Eliza, now you think that I'm a nun?" She laughed at me. "A nun?" I turned my head away from her so she didn't see me blush.
"Oh." It's like a lightbulb switched on in her head. "Oh!" Yeah, now she understood.
"There is nothing wrong with still being a virgin." She said softly.
"I'm turning twenty-one in a few months." She just pulled up her shoulders. "So, you are twenty-years-old and still innocent there is absolutely nothing wrong with that."
"You sure about that?" I asked her. "Maybe they are just like my parents, don't want anything to do with me." If my parents couldn't love me, how can I expect a boy to fall in love with
