“Niva” Vendrick's jaw fell open as he sighted the young lady. “You didn’t tell anyone you were coming” he added moving towards her.
“Well I didn’t plan to stay long” she stated. Her eyes were focused on Annette who had only one question in mind. Who the hell was this lady and why on earth did she carry such dark presence.
“She’s Vladimir right?” Niva asked moving up to the counter but there was no reply.
“Umm Annette this is Niva Kane, she’s a district head just like Louisa” Vendrick stated
“Oh? Well she’s a long way from her district must be a really important visit” Annette crossed her hand and stared intensely at Niva who laughed lightly.
“Right I don’t like being a step behind Louisa but it seems I am” Niva smirked leaning against the counter “How would you like to work for me instead”
“What’s in it for me” Annette placed her cigarette back between her lips and tilted her head
“Much more than Louisa can offer that’s for sure”
“That’s not a definite answer, so no” Annette pulled the cigarette from between her lips and puffed out smoke circles into the air.
“Ha! You don’t get it dear. I don’t take no as answer, I’ll definitely get a yes from you” she replied and moved towards Vendrick “I’ll need your best room, seems like I’d be staying here for a while after all”
“Oh, right this way” Vendrick seemed to be very uncomfortable with this idea but he didn’t say a thing and led Niva quietly out of the bar.
“Seems like the power struggle has began” Jericho sighed placing two empty glass on the table and bringing out a bottle of red wine..
“What’s that?” Annette leaned towards him and watched him fill the two glass.
“It happens every 10years. The district head have a power struggle over a position at the headquarter” he picked up a glass and handed it over to Annette who scoffed.
“That why she needed me” she accepted the glass and took a light sip
“So Lava Ed is a district head?”
“Nah he's the leader of the Humanoid clan, he has a high ranking so he can also participate in the power struggle” Jericho replied.
“A pointless fight if you’d ask me, who’d want to be at the damn headquarters” Francis frowned walking towards the counter.
“On the bright side if Louisa gets the position you’d move from being an assistant district head to becoming a district head” Jericho placed an empty glass before Francis and filled it with red wine
“Oh please, I was glad just being in charge of the rogue cops” Francis emptied the glass in one gulp “This is coming out of your paycheck” he lifted the glass and slammed it against the counter.
“I knew that” Jericho muttered. That was obviously his plan in the first place. Annette chuckled lightly, her mind wasn’t really here at the moment. She was consigned about the power struggle… Is that what all this was about? did Louisa have any intention of helping her out in her quest? She unconsciously clenched her fist and placed her cigarette in the ash tray that laid in front of her, Jericho stood quietly observing her and sighed.
“You okay?” he asked
“I’d have to wait till this evening to figure that out” she replied.
It was passed 1am and Annette sat in the living room of her suite really exhausted, it was a really busy day at the bar but she still couldn’t get her mind off Louisa. Her suite door came open and she sprang off the sofa expecting to see Louisa but to her surprise she saw Byron standing in front of her. He didn’t seem to be in a good mood and she could guess why. She smiled warmly at him knowing that won’t make him feel better, she knew how much he wanted to be involved in her quest but all she wanted was for him to be safe.
“Seems like you’ve made it a hobby to make me worry”
“No, I’m wishing you could do the opposite” she walked up to him and gave him a hug “Didn’t think I’d miss you this much” she grinned
“Ha ha and you didn’t pick my calls” he frowned
“Don’t be like that, can’t believe you came here so late”
“You are really something, you know that right” he brushed her blonde hair behind her ear and stared worriedly at her “I’m right here you know, I want to be there for you” Annette moved away from Byron, why couldn’t he understand.
“I’m doing this…”
“To protect me I know” he cut her off and moved closer to her “I don’t need you protecting me. I want to protect you” he held her hand staring into her clear blue eyes.
“I hope I’m not interrupting something” Louisa voice broke through the room, her accent giving a foreign fill to the room
“Finally” Annette diverted her attention to their new company, she had a lot of explaining to do.
“You’ve been expecting me” Louisa glanced and Byron “Hmm… he is good looking”
“Umm Byron…”
“Yeah I get it, I’ll be upstairs” he sighed and made his way up the stairs”
“You are using me to get a post at the headquarters?” Annette blurted as soon as Byron was out of sight
“Well doh!”
“Humph” Annette smirked evilly “No wonder you waited ten years to find me. Miss Lane you have no idea who you are dealing with” Annette had a deadly look on her face and strong aura emanated from her as she took slow steps towards Louisa who swallowed hard.
“Easy there, I didn’t say I wasn’t going to help you. We just need to sort some things first that’s all”
“I’m done playing by your rules miss… No one plays around with me”
“Right understood but would you mind hearing me out first” Louisa moved into the living room, she sat on one of the sofas and crossed her legs with a begging look in her eyes.
“Oh! You finally feel like telling me your plan?” Annette rolled her eyes and crossed her hand over her chest.
“Don’t you think it’s weird that no one had any record of you, how could no one know that the last Vladimir had a daughter. Did the record just miraculously disappear”
“Go straight to the point” Annette snapped
“The rogue community isn’t what it used to be anymore, It was meant to be a haven for mages and other mystics. We have rules, we aren’t meant to hurt humans else we face the judgement of the mages corps – those people are now a shadow of a their former self. A mystic wasn’t allowed to kill their fellow mystic but yet the entire Vladimir family was assassinated” she sighed “The headquarters deal with all this things but yet they’ve been quiet, the mystics have gone wild acting as they please”
“And you are some form of righteous judge trying to reform the rogue community” Annette scoffed “First introducing me to the humanoid clan now this, honestly what do you take me for” Annette slammed her fist against the wall her aura was becoming pretty dangerous.
“Believe it or not I honestly want to help you” Louisa tried hard to comport herself as she sat on the sofa. Annette presence seemed so terrible at this moment and she needed to deal with the situation.
“You just want to get to the headquarters”
“True but I want to help you out too but that's not our problem at the moment so I need you to calm down please. Niva is here right now and that can't be good, she prolly up to something. She’s deadly, I wanted you to do some findings on her like you did with Francis - see what she’s up too. She’s a quiet one but she came all the way here, there must be a reason” Louisa was pitching her out for a mission at a moment like this. Louisa wasn’t thinking right but she’d carefully planned out everything and didn’t want it getting ruined by Niva. Annette tilted her head and lifted her left brow really confused and infuriated.
“Are you sick” she grabbed Louisa by the neck and lifted her off the couch, the pressure she placed on Louisa’s neck was strong and she slowly strangled her.
“I knew it… you aren’t an ordinary human” Louisa stuttered struggling with the grip.
“Annie” Byron yelled rushing downstairs, Annette’s eyes were completely black she was fixed on killing Louisa right now.
“Annette calm down, this won’t help you at all. Remember she’s your only link to finding your parents killers” he placed his hand gently on hers and she slowly let go of Louisa.
Louisa coughed profusely trying to catch her breath
“How many times has she shaded out like that” she asked rubbing her neck as she watched Byron assist Annette to the sofa
“Enough times to know that you don’t thick her off” he glared
“Why else do you think I let you in. Numerous assassinations and mass murders yet she roams freely on the street. Some lovestruck individual been covering up for her”
“What do you want?”
“Do you think a therapist will make her better” Louisa adjusted herself and stared at Annette who laid unconscious.
“l can help her, after all I know how to handle mystics more than any human” Byron stared quietly at Annette then back at Louisa.
