Chapter 10 - MUST HAVE BLINKED

1139 Words
Annette must have blinked because the man who sat in front of her was suddenly behind her. His cold hand gently wrapped her waist pulling her closer to him and a strange aura emanated from him which stifled her movement. “Annette” Byron groaned struggling to get the hefty man off him but all his struggling felt worthless. The man behind Annette hissed at his constant writhing and snapped his fingers signaling his men to get rid of the disturbance. The men who Annette had shot suddenly sprang up from the ground causing Annette to gasp feeling rather confused as she watched the three men escort Byron out of the apartment. “Alone at last” his voice brought a tingling feel to her ear as he leaned closely to her leaving only an inch between his lips and her ear. His free hand played around her shoulder to her hand and carefully pulled the shot gun away from her hands. “Beautiful ladies shouldn’t play with this type of toys” he grinned and the shot gun suddenly incinerated in his hand. “What… what do you want?” her voice croaked and she struggled to get her voice back. Being unable to move made her feel useless and she definitely hated this feeling. “You?” he blew against her ear making her really pissed. She wished she could destroy those filthy hands he had around her. “Pardon my rudeness” he moved from behind her, placing one knee on the ground he took hold of her hand and gently placed a kiss on it… The disgust that Annette felt right now could clearly be seen in her expression “I am Count Vendrick of the house of Vonye” “What do you want?” Annette snapped and he stared at her shocked with her reaction. “Miss Vladimir, there’s no need to be getting frustrated. I heard you’d be lounging at my hotel for a while so I volunteers to bring you over myself” “Wait! What?” Annette exclaimed, her muscles felt a little free now so she adjusted herself into a more comfortable position “Lady Louisa sent me to get you” “Of course” Annette rolled her eyes “Look Vendrick, you go tell Louisa that I’m not moving anywhere and please bring Byron back” she stared at the apartment door wondering if Byron was okay. “I was told that you didn’t have an option” Vendrick leaned against the couch and grinned delightedly at Annette “The last Vladimir… how charming” “The b***h even told him that… terrific” she muttered to herself. Her frustration was at its peak… there was no way she could get pass this guy, she couldn’t even move once he got close to her. She definitely had no choice but to play along with Louisa. “Fine, let me get my things” Annette stated and Vendrick nodded “But I want to be sure Byron’s okay” “He’s fine… my men only escorted him to his station” Vendrick swiped his glass from the table with an incredible speed and took a gulp. “Cool” Annette replied and walked into her bedroom locking the door behind her. Louisa planned on making her a prisoner and she was definitely not okay with that. She picked up her cell from her bedside table and dialed Byron’s number. “Annette, are you okay?” he’d picked up at the first ring and she felt relieved. “Where are you?” she pulled out a bag and began to stuff some of her clothes into it. “Those dudes dropped me at the station but they are still out there” Byron peeked out through the station glass, he could still sight the men’s car down the street. “Lose them and pick me up at L street” she whispered constantly staring at the door. Hanging up on the call she bent down staring under her bed to see a familiar white furry face “Let’s go” she said watching the cat crawl out from under the bed and into her arms. A slight knock on the door called her attention and she frowned “Don’t rush me or I’ll forget something important” she pulled out a short from her wardrobe and put it on. Staring at the package Louisa has handed to her she contemplated if she would still go… “Oh well” she grabbed the box and placed into her bag and rushed over to the window. “Awn you look terrified” she picked up her cat and placed him in her bag. “Doesn’t look steep” she muttered to herself as she observed the wall… she was on the third floor of the apartment and she most definitely didn’t fancy falling. The knock on the door came again, she really didn’t have much time. “Count Vendrick, I already said I was coming with you so please be patient” she yelled and carefully climbed out the window, she closed her eyes as she dangled. There was a trash bin underneath her and if she calculated properly, she should be able to land into it… If not – “What the heck” she muttered to herself letting go of the window allowing gravity to take it’s course. A large thud could be heard as she landed in the trash, yes she landed safely but the fall had it’s own impact. Shoving off the pain she felt… she hurried out of the bin and into the alley, she took a peek at her little furry friend… he was okay. “Great” she grinned as she hurried through the alley imagining the look on Vendrick's face when he finally realized she was gone. She brought out her cell and dialed Byron's number. “Did you lose them?” “Technically they left” he replied “Shoot… they must have found out that I’m missing” Annette stated and increased her pace “Where are you?” “Almost at L street… you?” she was about to cross the street when a black SUV parked in front of her startling the hell out of her. “Get in” Byron grinned and she sighed rushing into the vehicle. “So what now?” he asked as he drove smoothly through the street. “Don’t know but I guess I’ll still have to go for this party” Annette pulled out the box from her bag … Louisa was her only reliable lead so far, so she really didn’t have a choice. Byron had no idea what was going on so he just stared in silence at the road.
