Isabella.
I'm sat by the pool watching as Jack and Jacob splash each other. I opted for a sun lounger just next to the pool so I can keep an eye on them and break up any arguments but so far they have been getting on like best friends.
Thinking about that makes me think about my best friend Cindy. We met 6 weeks after I found out I was pregnant with the twins.
FLASHBACK
Oh no not again I thought as a wave of nausea hit me. I looked around quickly to see if there was a public toilet nearby that I might make it to, rather than lose the contents of my lunch out here on the street. Relief washed over me as I spotted a little coffeehouse a few shops down and hurried towards it. I can get a ginger tea and I'm sure there will be a toilet in there if the tea doesn't help I thought to myself.
I made my way inside and crinkled my nose as the bitter aroma of coffee hit me.
" One Ginger Tea please" I ordered my drink from the barista and looked around while I waited. Over by the window I spotted a woman who im sure was usually beautiful, however she seemed to be in a distressed state. On the table in front of her was a large black coffee that appeared untouched as she starred out of the window looking lost. Her bright green eyes were red and swollen from where she had obviously been crying and her auburn hair was falling loosely around her face and bits were stuck to her cheeks where tears had been.
" Your Tea miss" I turned back to the counter and took my tea from the barista and paid whilst thanking him.
I made my way over to the woman and cleared my throat. " Excuse me, do you mind if I sit here? I could use some company and if you don't mind me saying you look like you could too."
She turned slowly to look at me and glanced down at my already enormous stomach. She smiled weakly and replied "That would be nice."
I pulled the chair out that was across the table from her and slowly lowered myself down whilst groaning.
Her eyes widened with worry and she quickly stood to offer me assistance, but I waved her away. " I'm fine thankyou"
She stood next to my chair until I was comfortable, well as comfortable as I could with two 6 month twins wriggling about inside me.
When she returned to her seat she turned and asked me how far along I was.
" 6 months, but its twins so I look much further along" I laughed as her eyes went wide again. She seemed to be so distracted by my stomach that I thought I'd keep talking and maybe help her forget her worries for a few moments. " I only found out 6 weeks ago too, so as you can imagine not much time to adjust" she gasped and then let out a little giggle.
" So I hope you don't mind me joining you, but you looked like you could use a friend"
Her bottom lip began to tremble and I could tell she fighting back the tears.
" My boyfriend just left me after I found out he was cheating on me" she looked back out of the window and I reached over and took her hand in mine. She glanced down at our hands then back at me.
" Well then screw him, his loss." I told her.
She smiled weakly at me and said " I'm Cindy." " Its a pleasure to meet you Cindy, I'm Isabella."
END OF FLASHBACK
I laid back on the sunlounger and closed my eyes. I wished Cindy had been able to come with us. She really wanted to but was unable to get the time off work. Maybe next time she will be able to come I thought to myself, we would of had a lovely time here together soaking up the sun and watching the boys play. They both adored her and the feeling was mutual in fact they both called her Auntie Cindy and she loved it. We will have to video call her in the next few days, she hasn't gone more than a few days without seeing us since Jack and Jacob were born. I often joked that she should just move into our house as she spent so much time there, not that I minded, she was welcome company. Marcus didn't like any of my other friends and we had slowly drifted apart as he was never interested in going anywhere with them. I grew embarrassed making up reasons why he couldn't make it, so it just became easier to not go and over time the invites stopped. So when I turned up with Cindy I was pleasantly surprised that they seemed to get along and I guess that's how we became such close friends, Marcus approved.
I opened my eyes as a shadow passed over me. Looking up I saw a young girl maybe 18 in bright red shorts and a tight red t-shirt emblazoned with a holiday company logo.
She beamed at me and extended her hand down in my direction. I sat up and shook her hand as she spoke.
" Hello, Mrs Orlain. My name is Jessica and I'd like to welcome you on behalf of the hotel. We hope your stay is a happy one and I have been asked to inform you of some of the services we have to offer." she paused waiting for me to signal if I wanted her to go into more details.
"Hello Jessica. Thats very kind of you. What might these services be?" I asked whilst shooting a quick look towards the pool to check on the boys. They had made their way over to another group of children who appeared to be around the same age and they were taking turns jumping into the pool and splashing water out over the sides in the process.
I turned my attention back to Jessica, who took that as a signal to continue.
" Well we have a variety of excursions available, there's more details in our pamphlet which I'll fetch for you. We also have several different massages and beauty treatments".
" I'd be interested in some more details of excursions, but as far as massages and treatments go I'm afraid I'm here with my sons and I won't have chance to attend any of those." I said with a sigh at the end. She grinned at me and leant towards me and said " Then you might be interested in our children's club which runs daily from 9am until 3pm. We have lots of activities from crafts to beach trips."
" Now that I might be VERY interested in".
