Chapter Three: An Inhuman Connection

♡ Grayson’s P.O.V. ♡ “So you know she’s a vampire, right?” Alexander asked, and I retracted my hand. Nina looked at him with an appalled expression, and my smile faltered as I withdrew my hand from his. “What did you just say?” “A vampire.” Alexander chuckled with a shrug, and looked between his sister and I with a smirk, “You know, like a maneater. Is that the wrong expression?” I let out a laugh, partially relieved. After what we went through recently, it was hard to even imagine Nina as those crazed blood-suckers. “Oh. That’s… I’m still getting to know your sister, and she seems like she’d be a nice friend.” Nina’s brows slightly furrowed, looking at me with an unreadable expression. Her lips were slightly parted, a hint of a smile at the corners of her pretty pink lips. I couldn’t help the way I just… was entranced into her stare. I swallowed, somewhat lost in her chocolate brown orbs. “A nice friend? She’s not even a nice sister.” Alexander joked, breaking the connection. Nina slapped her brother’s arm, annoyed. “Don’t listen to him.” Nina spoke through gritted teeth, and I chuckled in amusement. “How could I?” I teased, and Nina scoffed but looked back at me with a certain smile in her eye. I couldn’t deal with the thought of her being into anyone else but me… yet I knew I didn’t want to be that bastard who was possessive- I couldn’t let myself. Never again. “Alright, lovebirds. I’m gonna go mingle.” Alex said, feeling awkward amidst the two of us. He left us, and I chuckled as my cheeks felt hot. “Your brother is… something.” I remarked, and Nina looked back at Ryder with a determined expression. I frowned as she walked past me, barely even acknowledging me anymore as she made her way to my player of a friend. I turned, furrowing my brow as she went up to Ryder. I was okay as he ignored her, but then she ran her hand down his chest… and he was apprehensive. Ryder’s eyes met mine, and I kept a poker face. Nina smirked, her shoulder raising as she smiled up at him- and Ryder swallowed as he gave me a somewhat confused face. ‘What...?’ His voice rang in my ear, ‘Why isn’t she talking to you? Is she flirting with me?’ ‘She likes you, Ryder.’ I breathed in and out deeply, shaking my head as I downed my drink, and threw it to the ground as I walked away. I couldn’t bare to see it anymore- I didn’t want to think about Nina fawning over Ryder at all. I just wanted to go- Oh. Oh, no. Selena, my ex, smirked at me from across the way, and stalked over with her eyes glaring at me. I sighed as she trailed her finger down my chest, and grinned at my discomfort. “Would you look who it is- the bad boy turned golden.” “Selena- the good girl turned bad.” I glared down at her, and she flipped her pitch black and curly hair over her shoulder as she placed her hand on her hip. “Still can’t leave me alone?” “Now what were you doing with the new girl? Isn’t she a little… geeky for your taste?” She giggled, her small nose crinkling as she laughed and took a sip of her beer. I rolled my eyes, “She literally just joined the school- what’s it to you?” “I’m just concerned- I mean, does she know the track record you used to have?” Her red lips smirked at me in amusement, and I scoffed. “I was a different person back then. I’ve paid my dues-” “Your sorries don’t make up for anything, wolf boy.” She sassed, and I sighed in annoyance, giving her a pointed look. She raised a brow, her lips still up in a smirk as she extended her manicured fingers to me, “Dance with me.” “And gain what, wolf girl?” I retorted, examining her up and down. We were in the same pack, and us wolves had our share of teen romances and drama. She was just another regular wolf like me, and we used to be in love a year and a half ago. But that was… long over. I was a different person back then, and so was she. “The new girl doesn’t even like you. Come on, what do you have to lose, Grayson?” Selena looked me up and down, lust in her eyes. I rolled my eyes, taking her hand and pulling her into me, grasping the small of her back with my other. The music was sultry, and so was she as she c****d her head to the side. “Why bother, Selena? You hate me.” “Yeah, and our hate s*x is great.” She spoke smugly, and I clenched my jaw as I looked away towards the crowd. “Don’t you remember? We fight, we yell… then we kiss and make up.” “That is toxic, and you know that.” I scowled, and she grinned. “Besides, we stopped when you turned-” “Eighteen. I know.” She rolled her eyes, “Britney Spears herself sang about it- and we are deliciously toxic, my love.” “You know, I think Heatwave said it best.” I retorted. She raised a brow, pressing her front against me as I kept dancing with her. “That each moment I spend with someone I love is supposed to be a dream come true, despite the anger we feel. And let me tell you something, Selena.” I leaned in, grazing my lips against her ear. “You and I are a nightmare.” “You always did like your oldies.” Selena pulled away, her mocha skin shining in the field lights, and her brows furrowing. “You really did love me, didn’t you?” I stayed quiet, dancing back and forth with her. I surveyed the crowd, either talking or couples dancing like the two of us. I sighed, “A little.” She was one of my kryptonites in the past- I always found myself at her doorstep, or letting her into my house. We were neighbors in the pack community too, so every month, once per week, we found ourselves entangled in the woods. But now, I could never find myself being with her after meeting Nina. “Remember the first time we kissed?” Selena teased, her lips grazing my neck. I swallowed, as she giggled low, and I clenched my jaw. “I was so nervous, and you just told me not to worry. That I just needed to follow your lead…” Selena looked up at me, biting her bottom lip as she slightly smiled. “We broke up when I turned eighteen, and you remember why, don’t you?” I shook my head, not wanting to remember that painful memory. She continued, “I found out that our love, our stupid crazy love, was all based on some bet. On some idiotic wolf bet with you and your idiotic friends.” “I said I was sorry. I said I loved you, and you didn’t give a damn.” I spoke with venom, glaring down at her. “Yet we still hooked up every now and then… you remember last month, don’t you?” Trent’s funeral. I showed up on her step, upset... “We were all in mourning. But especially you…” She seemed genuine, her face remorseful as she looked me up and down. “You were so sad, having just been through hell, and we just… we didn’t f**k, now, did we? What was it you called it? You said…” “We made love, like it was the first time.” I recalled, cursing under my breath. Afterwards, we parted ways silently and didn't talk until… well, now. “Exactly.” Selena smiled genuinely, and her eyes held… something more than the usual contempt she held when looking at me. “I missed that. I want that with you, Grayson. How it used to be…” “But we’re different people now.” I tried removing her hands from around my neck, but she resisted. “We… I’m not a possessive asshole-” “But you still can be. And I can still be your good girl.” Her thumb caressed my cheek, and I felt myself wanting to succumb to her familiar touch. But I couldn’t- we were terrible together. I silently and softly removed her hand from my cheek, and she swiftly intertwined our fingers together. I scoffed, but found myself looking down at her in amusement. She smiled, “You forget I’m your first love. I know you better than you know yourself, Grayson.” I furrowed my brows, and squeezed her hand. “She’s my mate, Selena.” Her eyes slightly widened, and almost on cue- “Huh.” Nina was inches away, her head c****d to the side as she observed the two of us with her hands on her hips. I swallowed, detangling myself from Selena, and clearing my throat. I feel so awkward now… “This?” Selena asked, her jaw clenching as she looked my human mate up and down. “This is who you’re turning me down for?” I turned away, scratching the back of my neck. “This is exactly what he’s turning you down for.” Nina spoke, almost deadly as she approached Selena with an equally deadly glare. They were almost nose to nose… I frowned, and walked over, placing a hand on each of their shoulders to separate them. “Can we just… tone it down, for a second? Okay?” I asked. Selena was a walking grenade- which was why we used to fight a lot. A good girl, but definitely stuck-up. Now, she was explosive… and being human wasn’t exactly good for my mate in this situation. “Yeah, he’s holding me back for a reason.” Selena sneered, and I scoffed. “Yeah, so you can keep your face.” Nina snarled, taking a step towards her. I raised a brow, grasping Nina by the waist as I picked her up. “Ugh! What are you doing?!” I had her bridal style, and she struggled in my grasp. For some reason, it felt like she was not trying… I walked through the crowd, and took her a couple feet away from the party. The grass scrunched underneath my feet, and she annoyingly swatted my shoulder as I put her down. The brunette woman glared at me, her arms crossing. “So that was your ex, I’m gathering?” “I’m guessing Ryder filled you in.” I said, “Why did you-” “Well, he told me that you had a bit of a weak spot when it comes to her. Obviously.” “Nina, are you jealous?” I teased, feeling somewhat smug. She rolled her eyes, “Like I’d ever be jealous of that f*****g-” “Oh? Then you won’t mind if I go back?” I turned, only to see her already standing in front of me. I did a double take, somewhat confused. She scowled, her brow raised as she stalked forward. “You’re mine.” She said, and I swallowed- she was insanely attractive to me right now. I had to resist- I turned away from her, shaking my head, walking back to my car in the parking lot near the football field. My wolf was begging me to dominate her, to show her who was whose. As soon as I got in front of my car, she grabbed me from the back of my collar, turned me around, and laid me against the hood of the car. The car slightly bent at my weight- I panted as she hovered over me, her hair dangling down on one side of her shoulder as she straddled my lap, and I closed my eyes. They were yellow- Jay, my wolf, was practically screaming at me in my head. “Did you hear me? You… are mine.” Her lips grazed my ears, and I shuddered. Jay broke through, and I scoffed. Using my speed, I grasped her throat and turned her over on her back, and she scowled. My voice was gruff, the wolf and I speaking as one. “Let’s get one thing clear: If I’m yours, you are sure as hell mine. There is no way in hell you will be getting with Ryder as long as I have any say in it.” Nina’s lips snarled and my eyes widened as fangs came out of her incisors, and I backed away from her, standing. “You’re one of those bloodsuckers.” She sat up, blood rushing in the veins under her eyes- She was a real vampire. “Damn right. And you’re still mine.” “I…” Whether I liked it or not, she was my mate. Whether I liked it or not, I really liked her. I swallowed, turning away and leaning onto my car’s passenger side. I felt like I was in disbelief… Her hands slid onto my shoulders, and I inhaled shakily. She turned me around easily, exampling her inhuman strength as she ran her hands down my torso. I shakily exhaled as well, and she playfully pouted at me with her normal face. “Oh, come on. Did you really think I was human?” I rolled my eyes, “Of course I did. You played the part a little too well. I knew you didn’t need glasses.” Nina smirked, throwing her glasses on the floor and crunching it under her heel. I huffed, her brown doe-like eyes never leaving mine. I couldn’t handle it anymore- I needed her. I turned her over, grabbing her shoulder and slamming her against the car. She moaned, glaring up at me, and I leaned down to kiss her. It was like fireworks went off in my head- I felt them in every nerve in my body, and I grasped her face gently as I deepened the kiss roughly. She kissed back just as harshly, and turned us around, her kisses trailing away from my mouth and to my jaw. I groaned, my hands tangling in her brunette hair. Nina suckled my skin, and I moaned. She nicked at my skin just under my jaw, going lower- she kissed at the croon of my neck, and for a moment- I wanted her to bite me. I wanted it- She nicked at my skin, and I groaned again, “Bite me.” She pulled away, her face suddenly serious. I could see her face had turned back with her blood rushing under her eyes, her veins sticking out. The sclera had turned red, and I found myself even more entranced than I could know. “You don’t want that, wolfie.” Nina warned, an eyebrow raising. I looked down at her, speechless, my thumb caressing her cheek. She leaned into my touch without hesitance, her fangs barely visible through her lips. I leaned down, pressing my lips against her in a kiss. She kissed me back, deeper and harsher than ever. Her fangs brushed against my bottom lip as she nibbled on it, and she pulled away to kiss my neck again. Her tongue licked against my skin, and I moaned. Her fangs grazed my skin as she kissed my neck, and my fingers dug into the back of her skin- I couldn’t. She was basically teasing me- “Please, Nina.” My voice was deep, guttural- I was horny beyond belief. Not even with Selena- Her fangs sank into my skin, and I threw my head back with a gasp. Her hands dug into my shoulder, her bite becoming harsher- I could feel the blood running down my neck. I moaned, my nails digging into her skin. I bit my lip, my eyes closing. I was in love, I swore- this sensation was somehow euphoric. She pulled away, blood running down the corner of her lips. Her tongue rubbed across her top lip, groaning as she breathed in and out heavily. She looked up at me through half-lidded eyes, her hand grasping my jaw. Her voice was so sultry… “Why the hell do you taste so f*****g delicious?” “Because we’re soulmates.” I huffed, and she grinned as she leaned in to me and kissed me. I kissed her back, groaning as I tasted the metallic blood of my own. Suddenly, I was pushed away from her. I grunted, getting up with speed. “You’re kissing the wolf?!” Alex yelled, holding his sister by the neck. I glared. “Get your hands off of her-” “Don’t you dare interfere!” Alex yelled warningly, and Nina grunted as she grabbed his wrist and twisted it back. She kicked him on the shin, and I heard a c***k- did she fracture him? She pushed him to the floor, and rushed over to me at the blink of an eye. I was so confused how the hell she could move that fast- and she grasped my neck with urgency. “Get the hell out of here now.” “But-” I protested, somewhat annoyed. “I can handle my brother! Now go!” She pushed me away, and I shook my head. Jay wouldn’t have let me anyways, and I stood as I felt my wolf start to come back to the front of my mind. Alex stood, his eyes glaring at me as his vampiric face showed. He hissed at me, and I glared at him with glowing yellow eyes, and growled threateningly. It wasn’t the first time I’ve killed a vampire- but when I looked at Nina, looking between us with that worried expression. I didn’t know what to do, and I hesitated. Alex tackled me with a snarl.
