Eight: WTF, Another Mate

WTF, Another Mate Eight: Ruby Third shifts suck a*s majorly, but it is where the best tips are made. I’m busy cleaning after the rush that we had. It is only me and Julie working tonight. Which would be okay if it wasn’t a Friday night. Marla called off and no one was able to cover her as my Aunt and Uncle are out of town until morning. It’s okay though. They deserve to have time to themselves and this way they won’t see how far down hill my health has gone. I dig in my pocket for the pills the pack doctor gave me for the pain I am going through. It has been about six months since I have come back to the town of Silver Crest. I have made a new friend Todd. It is funny how these things work out. He has moved me onto the pack lands where he says it is safer for me. He doesn’t know my story, at least not the whole thing. He knows that I am running from my Fated Mate. No matter how hard he tries to talk me into contacting them. I won’t. Even the doctor at the pack told me that I need to at least talk to him. Find out what is going on but I don’t want to know. I want nothing to do with him. After all he did pick someone else even after meeting me, he still chose her. I dump the trash into the can which is overflowing. I take the bag out, walking out the back door. There is a chill to the air letting everyone know that fall is coming. I throw it in and turn to walk back when I feel eyes on me. I stop and look around. I don’t see anyone or anything out of place. My Aunts house sits dark behind the parked cars. I walk back inside. I need to get the cleaning done before the next rush. I see Elliot cleaning the grill. “Only three more hours to go. You going to make it Ruby?” He asks me. I give him a smile that I don’t feel. “Of course. Have to pay for my classes.” I answer as he chuckles. We both attend the college here in town. Working thirds to help pay as he is an orphan and me. Well, my parents cannot afford to pay for all of my classes so I chip in as much as I can. Living rent free at Silver Waterfalls pack lands. I get free food and a house of my own to stay in. I only have to worry about car insurance and gas money. The rest goes to further my education. That is if I live long enough. I go back to cleaning the tables and booths when I hear the front door ding. I frown thinking the next rush is starting a little early. When I go to turn to see the new customer I freeze. The smell of lemongrass hits my nose making my heart speed up. No is the only thing I can think of when my blood starts signing through my veins. It can’t be possible, right? I mean my Fated Mate smells like lavender spice to me not lemongrass. Why would my body be acting like this? I turn my head and rise my eyes to a pair of intense blue eyes that seem to hold me prisoner. I hear Julie tell him he can pick a seat as he just stares at me unmoving. My breath catches in my throat as I just don’t understand how it is possible for him to be my Fated Mate. Could it be that he is a Second Chance mate for me? That isn’t possible as I haven’t rejected Jack. Then Second Chance mates are only for the wolves who please the Moon Goddess. I have done nothing to earn her respect. All I ever do is run away. The door dings breaking the spell his deep blue eyes had trapped me in. I look down and rush into the back to get menus for the guys that came in. Julie comes in looking at me worriedly. “You, okay?” she lightly touches my arm as I nod my head. “Your up first. Which one you want?” She asks as I smile at her. “I’ll take the five top.” I say as she nods her head still looking concerned for me as she follows me out of the back. The rush is in full swing as I run around like a chicken with my head cut off. I like it when it is busy. I can concentrate on everything else besides him. The one that has the effect to make my blood race and heat up all at the same time. I don’t understand why he is still here. What he wants with me. I am a nobody. Hell I’m not even really a wolf. I may have their blood in my veins but that means nothing to the others. A wolf-less Werewolf is lower than our human counterparts in my world. So why is he still here almost three hours later? Our last rush of the night is starting to die down. I look around and see the handsome man still sitting there staring right at me. I sigh knowing that I’m going to have to talk to him. Even if it is just to reject him as my Fated Mate. I grimace at the thought. Matter of fact I just realize that almost all of my pain is gone. I don’t know how or why but it seems that his scent is somehow a healing balm for me. Is that even possible? I wonder when I feel a searing pain in my chest. Nope I think as I rub the spot. He makes me feel better but what used to be only stabbing pain has turned into something much worst over time. Now if feels like someone is ripping my heart out of my chest. I walk back into the back as I gasp holding onto the break table so I don’t fall. The doctor’s words form this morning repeating in my head. “You are dying. Your organs are beginning to shut down.” Is what the woman told me and I cannot help but to shake my head. My Aunts words coming back to me. “You need him as much as he needs you. Give him and yourself a chance before it is to late.” I feel the tears rolling down my cheeks as I shake my head no. I would rather die than take a man that could hurt me the way he did. No, I respect myself to much to do that. I straighten my spin and walk back out front and to the ladies room. I had my head down still lost in thought. That is when I ran into a wall. A warm wall that my hands land on. The wall has bumpy warm muscles that flex under my palms. The lovely scent of lemongrass filling my nose making my heart about beat out of my chest as I feel moisture pool in between my legs. I slowly rise my eyes to him. The s*x god that isn’t that much taller than me with those blue eyes I could get lost in. His tousled brown hair with almost feminine facial features that draw me in. I glance at his lips as I lick my own wanting, needing to kiss them just to see what they taste like. I whisper the words that I have been trying to hold back but somehow slip past my resolve. “Mate.” I whisper as his eyes get big. In the next instance his face is buried in my neck breathing me in. I felt them again. The tingles of electricity running up and down through my body as he seems to be licking the skin of my neck. He pulls back saying “Mine.” It scared the living sh*t out of me. I turn tail and ran. Not looking back I ran into the back of the kitchen seeing my Uncle Gus entering with my Aunt on his heels. I stop as my Aunt Sally rushes to me. I can see the worry in her eyes as she looks over my shoulder. “Tim, hot d*mn kid long time no see.” I hear my Uncle as my Aunt smiles at him. He must be behind me and I couldn’t bring myself to look at him. “Good, good. On my way home to see my family. Just stopped in for my normal burger and fries.” I glance at my Uncle and see the smile that reaches his eyes. That can only mean one thing. My Aunt and Uncle know and respect this wolf. I sigh as my Aunts eyes land on mine with a question. I shake my head not wanting to tell her anything. “I see you have met our niece Ruby.” I hear my Aunt as I grimace. Now he knows my name which I was hoping he not find out. I would much rather I disappear instead now I’m caught before I can even make my escape from him. “Yes.” I hear him say as my Uncle looks at me. I know I look horrible but somehow I don’t feel that bad since Tim as my Uncle called him came into the dinner. “Could you do me a favor and give her a ride home. She is staying in your pack where she is safe.” I gasp as I close my eyes. It doesn’t look like I will be getting away from him anytime soon.
