Carlos shook his head. Nicholas lay on the bed in the VVIP ward in Orchid room on eight floor, which was actually more akin to the most expensive suite in a five-star hotel than a hospital ward.
After all, Nicholas was the director of the Sparrow Clinic and he had a special room to treat and rest when sick. The Orchid ward is his special room in Sparrow Clinic.
"What are you doing here bro? You slacking off while I do a boring interview?" joked Carlos while patting Nicholas's thigh.
His maternal cousin smiled faintly. "Playing around a bit with Stefano and his guys in the morning," Nicholas answered.
Carlos snorted in annoyance. "Don't be kidding, Nic. If anything happens to you, I dare not imagine what will happen to Genesis and it is certain that, for the next few decades at least, this country will face a full-blown economic crisis. Look, the bullet almost missed your heart, Nic! Come on, you are a great mafia leader, but you are not immortal."
Nicholas couldn't help but laugh at Carlos' scolding, then he winced feeling the pain in his wound. "Damn Stefano," Nicholas hissed. He frowned. "I think Stefano has become more cunning in his war strategy lately, even though his men are somewhat weak and not very good at planning strategies. I shot three or four of them."
"Tsk, I know you can do that, but why did you get attacked in the open area like that, Nic? And where are your men, shouldn't they be guarding you 24 hours? Why they are so careless?" Carlos asked angrily. "I could have reprimanded and dismissed those who were negligent and let you go off on your own."
"Tsk, come on. Don't get too worked up because it's not their fault. I purposely sneaked out on my own, because I needed to inspect the construction site of the Jade property that I will be taking over. I had no idea that Stefano would also be interested in that site." said Nicolas.
Stefano always tries to compete with him, although most of the time they lose and that defeat makes them even more vicious in committing their crimes.
"Talking about Jade property, you should know who the person I met were to conduct interviews for prospective nurses who would work here," Carlos said as he pulled a chair closer to Nicholas's bedside. "Guess who!"
Nicholas stared at Carlos for a moment, then closed his eyes. "Let's just spill it, Carl, I'm too lazy to guess."
Carlos snorted and patted Nicholas' thigh again. "You really are boring. Do you remember the woman I met on the blind date yesterday? Apparently, the woman I was dating, also came for an interview to become a nurse here."
Nicholas opened his eyes and looked at Carlos with a frown. "You mean the blind date you had on my behalf? With the daughter of the Reding family?"
During this time, it was common for Carlos to go in place of Nicholas on blind dates. His cousin is a playboy who likes to play games and doesn't have the burden of being an heir like Nicholas, so Carlos never refuses to replace Nicholas on blind dates with girls who are offered to him in order to smooth business between the Genesis Group business corporation and companies that are interested in joining with Genesis Group.
So did the Reding house, who wanted to form a partnership with the Genesis Group and asked Nicholas to go on a blind date with their daughter.
Carlos snapped his fingers. "That's the problem, Nic. I think there's a mistake here. You said yesterday, I'd replace you on a date with the daughter of the Reding family, but in reality, the woman I dated and then reappeared in the nurse interview earlier, her name wasn't Reding at all, but Jade. Her name is Josephine Jade."
"Jade? Is she have a relationship with the Jade property?" Nicholas asked with frowned.
"I'm not sure but I don't think the name Jade is too common to use. She could be part of the Jade family," Carlos said.
Nicholas is planning to buy the Jade property, because recently they are facing the threat of bankruptcy and the price of their shares has started to fall in the stock market.
Nicholas was a reliable businessman and could always take advantage of opportunities where a company was facing bankruptcy, he would immediately take over the company, buy it cheap to merge into the Genesis Group. That's why Genesis Group keeps getting bigger and growing.
"Carlos, please get Toreno here," Nicholas said. "I have a task to give him."
Carlos got up from the chair and opened the door, calling for one of Nicholas' personal bodyguards who sat guarding outside.
Ben Toreno was the head of Nicholas' personal bodyguard and also his closest person. He was a man with an athletic body and a straight face, reserved and stiff, but his martial skills were extraordinary, capable of incapacitating a dozen armed men with just a few swift blows. He mastered at least four or five kinds of deadly martial arts and his ability to hack the internet and also infiltrate was also not in doubt. Rumors had it that he had worked as a spy for Russia and America.
"Ben," said Nicholas.
Ben stood straight up at the end of the bed. "Yes sir?"
"Try to find out about the Jade family and if they have a daughter named Josephine," Nicholas said. "Gather information on that woman and give it to me."
"I will immediately do your command, sir."
Ben nodded his head to Nicholas and Carlos and left the room.
"Nic, you should check the files of the prospective nurses who conducted interviews today, to determine who will accept the results. Read and pay close attention to Josephine Jade's files, because I think she is quite special," Carlos said in a light tone.
Nicholas's eyebrows rose. "If it isn't about the possibility that she is a member of the Jade family, what makes you think she is so special as to ask me to pay special attention to her?"
Carlos scratched his head while grinning. "Despite her dealings with the Jade family and the Jade property, I think she is different. Doctor Aubin added a note on Josephine's interview report that she was twenty minutes late, but I allowed her to enter the interview because to me the reason for the delay was reasonable, even quite interesting."
"Carlos, I'm asking you to replace me on a blind date with her because you're smarter than I am at handling female matters than I am. Your experience as a playboy makes things easy, but I'm not asking you to fall in love with this woman. We have business dealings with her family and not the right time for you to fall in love with her."
"No, no, I'm not in love with her at all, Nic," Carlos said quickly. "As always, I just want to keep to my business principles, keep your friends close, but keep your enemies even closer. Well, whatever it is, I can never quite put it into words, but you'll know what I mean."
"You know, I really hate getting in trouble over women's troubles, whatever form they are. Those people always think that sending their beautiful and hot daughter or niece to me will help them get a project or tender from me, what a cheesy and corny way!" cursed Nicholas angrily.
Carlos smiled awkwardly. He knew his cousin very well and understood that when it came to women, Nicholas was very stiff and cold, even though physically he was very handsome and masculine and could make a woman fall in love with him just by seeing him smile faintly or stare at them with his deep, dark eyes.
"I want to keep her close, so that it will be easy for me to play a trick on her in case she is indeed related to the Jade family. Maybe she has some plans by applying for a job as a nurse here," Carlos said carefully. "Better to be safe than sorry."
"Does she really have skills as a nurse or is it just camouflage?" Nicholas asked. "And for me, it doesn't really matter what she or you are up to, as long as I don't get involved. Just do as you please. You know the rules of the game and limits."
Carlos took a deep breath and put on a gloomy face. "Actually, Nic, you should know something about Josephine Jade. One more thing."
Nicholas looked at Carlos with a frown. "What?"
"I'm not sure, I could do something bad to Josephine Jade because...." Carlos gulped.
"What?" asked Nicholas impatiently.
"She ... uh, she reminds me of Aunt Ingrid. Your mother."
Nicholas was stunned. "Huh?"
