"What are you doing?!" asked Josephine angrily.
She pushed Nicholas hard while holding onto her blouse, which had its top two buttons unbuttoned, exposing a chest with smooth skin underneath.
Josephine's face was bright red and her eyes flashed with anger. Her lips felt hot from Nicholas' sudden kiss. For a moment Josephine was lost in thought, for the touch of Nicholas' lips on hers felt so warm and snug, as if it were something she naturally did.
However, when consciousness overtook Josephine again, she reflexively pushed Nicholas and slapped him. Not a very hard slap because Josephine's hands were shaking too much, but enough to make Nicholas let go.
"I was just trying to remind you," Nicholas said coldly. The wound in his chest throbbed at Josephine's prodding.
"Remind me of what? You must be delirious because of that wound of yours," snorted Josephine irritably. "If it weren't for you being injured, I would have knocked you unconscious for what you did earlier!"
Seeing Josephine's sharp eyes and the anger that was evident in her demeanor, Nicholas realized one thing that Josephine didn't recognize him at all.
After all, there was a big difference between men and women when it came to their sleeping partners. A man, especially if he was a playboy who changed partners for pleasure, or a man who slept with a woman just for one night stand, he can easily forget the woman he sleeps with. However, for women this is not the case. Women will always remember who their bed partner is even if it's just a one night stand, especially if something special happens when they are together.
Nicholas is different. He only sleeping with the woman he likes, and even then when there is already a commitment agreement between them and the number of women does not even reach the count of the fingers of one hand.
He is not a playboy, does not like one night stands, and is a very good self-control person. Except for that night, six years ago, when he was hiding in a villa.
Josephine was an unbelievably beautiful sudden flirtation and for the first time in life, Nicholas had gotten out of control of her. After that night, Nicholas couldn't stop thinking about Josephine and after nearly two weeks of trying to forget and with no success, he decided to find out who she was and go after her. However, the woman simply disappeared as if she had never existed.
Now, the woman he has been looking for for years suddenly appears before him, along with the incident that happened to him caused by Stefano--just like six years ago, helping to tend to his wounds and not recognizing him at all.
How could a woman forget her special bed partner, because the night she had s*x with Nicholas, Josephine was a virgin and apart from that, they did it many times too. Nicholas felt as if he had been smashed into a boulder.
Josephine stood up and shook her skirt. She reached for his first aid kit and looked at Nicholas with a sullen face.
"I'm going to call an ambulance so they can come to help you soon. Sorry, but I can't wait for you. I have something important to do," said Josephine in a curt tone. She took her phone from her skirt pocket. "I'll call the Sparrow Clinic. It's very close from here. Wait here or your wound will open again."
Nicholas watched Josephine's back away and he heard Josephine on the phone with the Sparrow Clinic staff, asking for an ambulance to be sent immediately.
Nicholas closed his eyes in frustration. The woman he searched for over six years didn't recognize him at all!
Meanwhile, Josephine arrives at the Sparrow Clinic and after parking Anna's car, she runs to the second floor, where the interviews for new nurse candidates are taking place. She looked at the clock and gasped. She was more than twenty minutes late for the interview.
Josephine arrived at the door of the interview room out of breath. She saw a woman sitting on a chair in front of the interview room, packing her bags.
"Miss, are you also a participant in the interview?" she asked.
The woman turned and nodded her head. "Yes. I've been done for a while. Did you just come?"
"Yes. I'm late."
"Oh? They've been calling you since earlier. They're still inside, maybe they're holding a selection. Hurry in or you'll be rejected," said the woman with a friendly smile. "Good luck."
Josephine sighed. "Thank you. You too."
Josephine knocked on the door and entered, when she heard the order from inside for her to enter. Two men sat behind a long table. On the table in front of them scattered papers. They gave Josephine strange looks when she entered.
"Is there anything we can help you with, miss?" who is one of the men.
Josephine took out an interview summons which she received via email and printed. "My name is Josephine and I am an interviewee to become a nurse. I'm sorry I'm late, but something happened on the way and I couldn't get away from it."
"Josephine Jade, hmm?" said the other man while reading the letter given by Josephine. His face looked displeased. "We have called you three times and waited for ten minutes according to the rules. Now your chance is over, Miss, so, sorry, you are disqualified."
Josephine's heart sank hearing the man's words. "I... can't I just have one chance, sir? I don't mean to be deliberately late, but--"
"Ms. Josephine, we have rules here and we have proper procedures in place. I'm sorry, but you don't deserving of this interview," interrupted the man who first reprimanded Josephine.
"But I--"
Both men's faces tightened and Josephine knew they had rejected her completely. Feeling defeated, Josephine stood up from the chair and bowed in salute.
"I'm sorry, sir. I understand that I--"
"Why are your clothes covered in blood, miss?" cut a voice, no one to be seen.
Josephine was confused, looking for whose voice had asked, but could find no one other than the two men behind the table. Josephine looked at her clothes and she realized that they were full of dried blood stains.
"I... found an injured man on a construction site not far from here. I couldn't just leave him because he might die. So I decided to at least give him first aid and after confirming that an ambulance would pick him up, then I dared to left him. I don't have time to change into clean clothes, so please forgive me for being dressed inappropriately like this."
"Mr. Danai and doctor Aubin, I think Ms. Josephine deserves a chance, for her reason for being late is quite noble," said the voice again. "We are conducting interviews to find reliable nurses and without any interviews, I think Ms. Josephine has carried out her principles as a nurse spontaneously. How?"
The two men whose names were named by the anonymous voice brought their heads together and whispered. Josephine waited tensely and silently looked around her.
There are a pair of speakers in the right and left corners of the examiner's table and several CCTV cameras in every corner of the room. Could it be that the person speaking was watching from the cctv camera and talking through the speakers?
"Okay, Ms. Josephine, we agreed to give you a chance for your good reason for being late," said one of the male examiners.
"Wait a minute, I'll be down there," said a voice over the speaker.
"Yes sir, we will check Ms. Josephine's paperwork first."
The two examiners asked for documents that Josephine had to prepare as administrative completeness and examined them. It was then that the door at the back of the interview room opened and a man entered, adjusting a suit.
Josephine was stunned to see who it was. She had already opened her mouth to rebuke, but the man put his index finger to his lips and sat down next to the examiners.
"Let's start the interview," said the man.
Josephine went through the half hour interview and answered the questions asked fairly well. The three examiners then ushered him out with the promise to give him more news, once the interview was over.
Josephine walked out of the interview room feeling relieved. She didn't want to think about how it would turn out. She has tried her best to do her best and if in the end she has to fail, then she just has to try and try to find another way.
Josephine looked at her watch and decided to go straight home. She didn't want to bother Anna for too long, looking after the triplets.
Josephine was just pressing the elevator button when someone called her name. She turned around and saw Carlos--the guy she had a date with yesterday, walking towards her.
"Ah, Mr. Carlos," said Josephine.
"Hi, Josephine," Carlos said with a big smile. "I never expected to see you again so soon, even under such dramatic circumstances."
Josephine smiled shyly. "Me too. Thank you for the opportunity you gave me."
"Hm, I think you deserve it. How can you be late, that is quite an interesting story."
"I saw this man injured at a construction site not far from here and judging by the condition he was in, he could have died if he didn't get help soon, so without thinking I helped him, then called an ambulance from here to pick him up. I think he's already taken care of by now here."
"That's very kind, since you acted in the right way. However, Josephine, I can't be sure you will definitely be accepted to work as a nurse here because the decision will be made jointly by the examiners, then must get approval from the director based on the recommendations of the examiners and the administration."
Josephine smiled gently and nodded. "It's okay, Mr. Carlos, I understand. You just giving me the opportunity to continue the interview is my luck. I'm not going to force the result, because I've tried to do my best, so whatever the result, I'm sure it's the best for me."
Carlos admired Josephine's open and mature mindset, making him even more attracted to this woman in front of him.
The elevator door opened again, a second time, after the first one was allowed to close again without Josephine getting in. Josephine held the elevator door with her hand.
"I'm sorry but I have to go now, Mr. Carlos. Thank you again for the opportunity you have given me."
"You're welcome, Josephine. And one more..."
"Yes?"
"Just call me Carlos, the next time we meet. No Mr or sir."
Josephine smiled and nodded, then got into the elevator and pressed the button. She waved before the elevator doors closed.
Carlos smiled as he walked towards the special elevator to go up to his room on the top floor of the hospital. He glanced at his watch with a little uneasiness, while opening the door of a room.
It was the office of the main director of the Sparrow Clinic and the name on the nameplate on the table was Nicholas Adams.
"Where exactly did he disappear," Carlos muttered to himself, loosening his tie and slumping onto the sofa. His phone vibrated in his jacket pocket and he quickly took it out and saw the name on the screen.
"Hey, where are you--" Carlos scolded.
But he was cut off quickly, "Eighth floor, Orchid room. Hurry up!"
Carlos hung up his phone and quickly walked out of the room. His face was gloomy.
