Chapter 3It’s light outside when I wake up, and the bed next to me is empty. A bird chirps outside, but the house is quiet. The ferocious wind from earlier must’ve died down, and when I turn toward the window, my assumption is proven correct. The forest is covered in a pristine layer of snow and the branches barely rustle underneath their weight. It’s like looking at a postcard and the beauty makes me breathless. But my bladder is close to bursting and hunger is gnawing at my stomach, making it impossible for me to enjoy the scenery. When I throw off the covers, I find a pair of fur-lined slippers by the bed. They’re too big for me, but they’re warm and heavenly and I don’t care. Joar has also laid out a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie and I quickly get dressed—I need to roll up the pants
