5. Planning a trip

FELICITY POV

Parker left early this morning to meet with Kai. He didn’t say what it was about, but I presume it has something to do with Blue Lake. Reaching over, I grab my laptop from the end table. My nerves have been going haywire ever since I submitted my assignment. After logging in, I notice that I have a message from the teacher.

“I got a perfect score on my paper!” I squeal. I can’t wait to tell Parker. I put a lot of thought into my writing. They loved everything that I came up with about the struggles of our young wolves in today’s society. I felt like the research really opened my eyes and I plan on applying what I’ve learned in the classroom. Now, if I can pass my exams, I will officially be a teacher!

I look down at my round belly, rubbing gently while I speak, “Today’s going to be a good day, little peanut.” I feel her flutter around in my stomach, surely doing little somersaults.

She’s almost ready to come out, I can feel it. Iris whispers. I smile. I can’t wait to meet her, but we’ve got a few more weeks before she’s full term.

‘Keep her in there as long as you can. She needs to be fully developed.’

I hear Iris snort We have one feisty peanut here. She aint waiting on nobody. I laugh audibly.

If she’s anything like me, I can imagine she’s going to be a wild one. I remember all the stories my parents told me about myself as a child. I had a wild imagination. Cami and I used to pretend we were queens and everyone had to treat us like royalty for three straight weeks. Our parents were over it before the end of the first week.

My thoughts were interrupted by a loud grumbling in my stomach.

Better feed her. She might make you pee yourself again Iris chuckled.

‘You just think you’re sooo funny.’ She burst out laughing now.

I rolled my eyes, blocking her out, and waddling out to the kitchen. I grabbed some breakfast from the fridge. As soon as I sat down, Parker mind linked me. ‘Baby, can you meet me in the Alpha’s office as soon as you can. I love you’ I let him know that I would be there shortly.

After eating, I went to get dressed. I tried on a few things, but nothing was fitting. I stood in front of the mirror, looking at my reflection. Turning to the side, my eyes widened. I’m pretty sure that my stomach almost doubled in size over night. I guess a loose dress is going to have to do for today. I quickly pulled a black sundress over my head and rushed out to meet Parker.

He was waiting for me outside of the packhouse. I pulled in and he rushed over to help me out of the car. I could sense his worry, but he didn’t say anything as we walked up to the Alpha’s office. As we approached, I noticed the door was ajar. Even from down the hall, I could hear Cami whisper yelling at Kai. I tried not to intrude on their conversation. We got closer to the door and they must have sensed us, because their conversation stopped.

Walking in, I noticed Cami sitting on Kai’s lap with damp cheeks and a strained expression. I looked to Parker who just ushered me to sit on the couch across the room. Beta Wyatt quickly joined the four of us.

“What’s going on?” I questioned.

Parker was the first to speak up. “Kai was able to get ahold of Maleigha, Alpha Stephen’s daughter. She had a lot of information for us and she knows about the book.”

Kai was next to speak up “Maleigha agreed to meet with us at Blue Lake. She would allow Parker and I to go over the contents of the book and take any notes that we deemed necessary. She also informed us that they were aware of the Hunters. They have lost six pack members to the suspected Hunters.”

I involuntarily gasped. One single pack has lost six of their members to these horrible humans. Parker began massaging my shoulders. He must have sensed my unease.

I turned towards him, “When do you leave?”

He looked conflicted.

“They are planning to leave tomorrow morning and be gone for an entire week!” Cami burst out, sounding on the verge of tears.

I’ve gotten used to the pregnancy hormones and mood swings for the most part, but for Cami, this is all so new. Kai pulled her closer to him, peppering her shoulders with kisses.

“I’m leaving Wyatt in charge while I’m away. I trust that between him and Cami, Twilight Woods will be in good hands. Parker and I will go and speak with Maleigha about everything they know regarding the missing wolves. We will also go over the book to see if there is anything inside that can help us.” he explained.

“I can’t believe you expect me to lead the warriors and the pack. Sounds a bit above my pay grade, don’t ya think, Alpha?” Wyatt whined, earning a scowl from the Alpha.

“Alpha, I appreciate everything you’re doing to help my family.”

Alpha Kai smiled, “Please, call me Kai. You are important to Cami and therefore important to me. Not to mention Parker is one of the best warriors I’ve ever met. The jet leaves at eight tomorrow morning.”

I understood the urgency of finding out information, but deep in my heart, I worry about Parker leaving. Not just because I’m so close to my due date, but because he has a target on his back.

Don’t worry, I will be fine. Kai and I make a great team, Parker’s voice floated in my head. I turned towards him, nodding and giving him a sad smile.

“If you’ll excuse us, I need to spend some quality time with my mate before leaving tomorrow.” Kai said with pleading eyes. I gave Cami a half-hearted smile before Parker and I headed back to our home to spend the evening together.

The second that our door was open, Parker grabbed me, pulling me in for a hungry kiss. I parted my lips slightly and his tongue invaded my mouth.

I responded, exploring his mouth, our tongues dancing until we both were gasping for air. After a few deep breaths, he scooped me up bridal style and carried me back to our room. He gently placed my feet back on the ground and began gently kissing the tops of my shoulders from behind.

Slowly making his way up my neck, I felt him nibble on my earlobe, pulling it between his teeth. Moving back to my neck, he swirled his tongue over my mark, causing a deep moan to escape my mouth.

“I will be back before we know it. And then we will be days away from meeting our little pup.”
