The Fall Ball

Chapter 10

(Rose)

I put the book in my bag and started to get ready for school. It's Friday, so the week is almost over. Fridays are normally pretty easy days. Most of the teachers will give a quiz and give assignments that are due Monday.

I decide that I’m just going to wear jeans and a t-shirt today. Its simple and comfortable. I grab my favorite jeans and pull them on. But they don’t feel right. They seem to be a little more form fitting.

I look in the mirror and again I am shocked by my reflection. My jeans are snugger, as my butt has perked up. I don’t know what is going on, but everything is firmer, and I look really good.

I grab my shirt and continue to get ready for the day. I throw my hair up into a high ponytail, this will keep it out of my face for the day. I grab my bag and head into the kitchen.

Before I walk in, I can hear my parents talking in hush voices. I pick up the sound of a third person with them. It sounds like it is the Alpha. I wonder why he is here again this morning; he was just here last night.

As I walk into the kitchen they stop talking and all look up at me. "Well good morning to you all," I tell them.

My parents greet me like normal and mom hands me a plate of breakfast, pancakes, and bacon.

"Yummy, Thanks Mom." She looks from me over to Dad. I’m starting to wonder if something is wrong.

Before I can question what is going on, Dad starts talking. “Rose, Alpha Jake has something he wants to talk to you about. We want you to know that we love you no matter what you decide to do. And we will help you with anything that you may need us to do. We are always here for you.”

"Okay," I tell him, and I look to the Alpha waiting for him to start talking. “Eat your breakfast, we will talk as we walk to school. I don’t want you to be late,” he tells me.

"You guys are making me nervous. Did I do something wrong??"

“Oh no honey. You are fine. We just want to be here to support you. What Alpha wants to talk to you about can be life changing,” Mom says…

"Well that didn’t help me calm my nerves." I say to them as I sit down at the kitchen table. They chuckle at me and tell me everything is fine and to finish eating. So I do as they ask.

As I’m eating, I notice Mom watching me out of the corner of her eye. She sees that I caught her watching me.

“Rose, have you been working out? Or changed your diet? You seem to be toning up rather quickly. You look gorgeous. I just want to be sure you are safe.” I looked at her in shock.

"So I’m not going crazy?" I ask her.

She looks at me confused. "I haven’t changed anything, but everything has toned up, and my clothes don’t fit the same anymore. The changes started at the same time I had the strange dream with the goddess and her wolf." I explain to her.

“Your looks changed after you had the dream?” Alpha Jake asks me.

"Yes," I tell him.

I don’t understand it. He seems to think, and my parents are looking at me and then at him.

“Well you turn 18 in a week now, so maybe it is your wolf starting to come forward,” Alpha says.

"But I don’t have a wolf, and this is a really late shift." I tell him.

“But you have the smell of a wolf, and have since you where a baby,” Alpha says.

"Do I still smell like a wolf?" I know you told me last night that as a baby I smelled like I had a wolf but I assumed the smell would of faded away since I never shifted, like I should of." I say to him.

“Yes, it is faint, but with my alpha senses I have always smelled it on you.”

"Well if you say so. I’m finished eating, are you ready to head to the school?" Alpha looks at me and nods his head. I grab my bag and tell my parents bye.

As we start walking, Alpha Jake looks at me and smiles. “So Rose, I have an idea that I think will help us to understand your dream a little more.”

"Oh? And what’s that??" I ask him looking off into the forest.

“Well I think that we need to find out more about you. Who you truly are and where you come from,” Alpha says.

I looked at him confused. "But you already tried, there was no scent picked up when I was found. Also no babies were reported missing at that time. So what makes you think that we can find something now??"

“Well we now have a database throughout the whole Kingdom, all five packs use it. It’s a data base that uses our DNA to track and compare to each other. With a blood sample we should be able to track down a relative. As long as someone in your bloodline has had their blood drawn for any reason it would be in the database.” He tells me.

"So with my blood we can track down a family member? We can actually find out who I am?"

“Rose you already know who you are. This will just allow us to know where you come from. And may give us some insight into what your dream meant and why you smell like a wolf but did not shift.” He tells me.

I thought about my dream last night. Lilly and Selene both told me that I need to dig deeper into who I am so that I can find the answers to my questions. This is a great way to do that. I debate on telling the Alpha about the second dream, but decide not to.

I look at Alpha Jake and smile. "I think finding out where I came from would be a really helpful thing. It could give me understanding of my dream and give me some answers about myself."

He smiles at me. “That sounds great. Would we be able to get your blood drawn today? We can do it after school. It wont take long, I would like to get this started before I leave for the palace in the morning.”

"Yes, that would be fine. I’ll stop into the pack hospital after school so they can do the blood draw. And I hope you have safe travels to the palace."

“That would be great, I’ll let the doctor know to be expecting you. And I will be safe during my travels. Your parents aren’t coming to the Ball at the palace, but I hope that you still come. I can arrange a ride for you if you would like.” Alpha Jake says to me as we reach the school.

"I am planning on going to the Ball. If you could provide a ride for me that would be great." I tell him.

He smiles and nods at me. “Great I will arrange it. And I cant wait to see you there. You may get lucky enough to find your mate.”

Yeah a mate… Not really what I want to find, I think to myself.

"Well have a good day Alpha and I will talk to you later." He nods and walks off towards the pack house.

Now I need to find a dress for this Ball, I’m sure my mom will love to go shopping. I’ll talk to her about it when I get home today.

Now to get through today.
