10. Escaped

Harry left the Blood Moon Pack, using the excuse of having another task to attend to. He quickly stripped down and shifted into his wolf form, retracing his steps along the path he had come from. Sniffing the ground impatiently, he searched for the lost paper, aware of the danger it posed if it fell into the wrong hands. Having dedicated his life to being a peacemaker, Harry realized that losing those papers was his first and possibly deadliest mistake he could have made. He needed to find them no matter the cost before Alpha Levi discovered their absence. Returning to the vicinity of the Silver Moon Pack lands, Harry shifted back into his human form and prepared to search for the papers, making sure to keep a safe distance from their territory to avoid any border violations. "f**k! Oh Goddess, please help me. How could I be so careless? What should I do now?" Harry cursed aloud, his despair evident as he pulled at his hair. "It appears the peacemaker has forgotten some of his belongings," a man's voice startled Harry. He turned, on high alert, only to find Alpha Prince Egon's Beta, Alex, standing there. Harry took a few steps back out of panic, his face draining of color as he caught a whiff of Alpha Prince Egon's scent, though he couldn't see him. "Are you looking for me?" Egon questioned, suddenly appearing close to Harry. The suddenness of his presence startled Harry, he couldn't comprehend how Egon had moved so swiftly without him sensing it. Overwhelmed, Harry fell to the ground, scrambling away until his back hit a tree, leaving him with no means of escape. "Alpha Prince, I... I didn't attempt to cross your border," Harry stammered, clinging to the tree as if his life depended on it, desperate to disappear from the world. "I dropped some of my belongings and came to retrieve them. I had no intention of entering your territory without permission, and I didn't. I apologize for any misunderstanding," he explained, fearing he might not get another chance to speak. Egon remained silent, instead moving closer to Harry, causing his fear to intensify. "Alpha Prince, I am telling the truth... I..." Harry began, but Egon interrupted with a shushing gesture. Harry fell quiet, his wide eyes fixed on Egon. "I want to ask you something, and I despise lies," Egon remarked. "Okay," Harry replied with a quick nod, his voice filled with trepidation. "Why did you flee from the Shine Moon Palace that day?" Egon's question struck at Harry's heart. He had mistakenly believed he had evaded everyone and left without being noticed, unaware that Alpha Prince Egon had detected his presence in the palace. "I was there for a peace treaty that day, but the Silver River Pack suddenly arrived. I was frightened, so I ran away," Harry answered honestly. "You weren’t alone. I detected your daughter's scent as well. Where is she?" Egon inquired, noticing the fear and sadness on Harry’s face. The mention of Tracey's scent caught Harry off guard, reigniting the pain he had tried to suppress. Unable to respond, he remained mute. "Why did you kill your daughter?" Egon changed the subject, surprising Harry. "How did you know?" Harry murmured in disbelief, regretting his outburst immediately. Just as he decided to apologize, he found Egon standing less than a hand's length away, prompting him to continue answering the question. "Alpha Prince Lucas attempted to rape Tracey and killed her mate. She defended herself, but it wounded Alpha Prince Lucas's ego. They intended to degrade her by making her the w***e of their pack. The news would have reached Alpha Levi's ears, and I knew he wouldn't forgive Tracey for her rebellious actions. I didn't want that for her. I killed her to spare her that torture. I am a father that killed his daughter and concealed it from everyone," Harry's tears threatened to fall, but he held them back, knowing that Egon wouldn't sympathize. In the Silver River Pack and Blood Moon Pack, any man shedding tears was viewed as weak. Egon blinked at Harry's sorrowful eyes. When Harry had jumped out of that window, Egon had allowed him to escape, as he had no connection to the Blood Moon Pack. However, Egon was there to learn something else. "Egon, what's wrong?" Alex approached his Alpha, who had come to the border for an unknown reason. "Something isn't right," Egon murmured under his breath, sensing his wolf behaving strangely in his mind. He fixed his gaze on Harry. "Please don't look at me like that. I didn't lie, and I didn't do anything," Harry defended himself. "Does your Princess know about your daughter?" Egon questioned Harry. "Princess Emily?" Harry blinked in surprise as Egon suddenly mentioned Emily. "I didn't intend for her to find out, but somehow she already knew. She asked me where I buried Tracey's body," Harry explained, noticing Egon's clenched fist turning into a fiery ball. "What did you tell her? What did she say? Tell me everything," Egon moved closer to Harry at lightning speed, his expression darkening, his wolf already present in his eyes. Harry, like Alex, felt a shiver of fear when they witnessed Egon's changing demeanor. "The Princess asked me where I buried Tracey. I told her the location. That's it. Afterward, she allowed me to leave," Harry explained. Egon took a step back, his mind seemingly elsewhere. Harry and Alex exchanged fearful glances as they observed Egon's shifting expressions. The Alpha Prince was losing control over his emotions. "Egon, why are you asking all of these questions? Is something wrong with the Princess?" Alex questioned. Harry's panic grew with the mention of Emily. "Alpha Prince, what's happening? How are your questions related to Princess Emily? Please don't scare me like this," Harry pleaded, momentarily forgetting his fear. "She has escaped from the Blood Moon Palace to find your daughter," Egon murmured, causing Harry's jaw to drop in fear. "What?" Harry was utterly astonished. "That's impossible, Alpha Prince. Princess Emily has never left the palace grounds. I merely informed her of the routes, but she knows nothing about the world beyond the palace. If Alpha Levi discovers her escape, he'll kill Princess Emily. How did she even manage to flee in the first place?" Harry stammered, covering his mouth with his hand, gasping in terror. "How she escaped is irrelevant now. What matters is the place where you buried your daughter. It's teeming with rogues, and nightfall is imminent," Egon's gaze shifted to the darkening sky. "Rogues will be drawn to that area soon, and she is unaware of the danger she's in." Alex was startled by his Alpha Prince's words, but what surprised him more was the building fury within Egon. "I can't let that happen," Harry shook his head vigorously. "I’ll go and stop Princess Emily." "It's futile. She's already in the forest," Egon stated. Harry's legs weakened. "You go and handle your Alpha. I will bring back your Princess," Egon ordered. Harry and Alex gasped at his astonishing declaration. "Egon, what's gotten into you?" Alex approached Egon cautiously. "You're behaving differently. Do you even know what you're saying? You rejected the marriage proposal with Princess Emily, and now you're heading into a forest infested with rogues to save her? Why? Why would you risk everything for a woman you don’t know?" Confusion turned to fear as Alex witnessed Egon's fierce, intense gaze. "I'm not saving just any woman. I'm saving my mate," Egon growled, shifting into his wolf form in an instant. Harry and Alex recoiled in horror and disbelief at his words. "NO ONE... I MEAN NO ONE CAN HARM MY MATE!!" Egon roared, charging into the woods.
