For a demonstration, I led people into one of the unused officer’s quarters. Each of these quarters had its own individual bathroom, as we’d already learned. One corner of the bathroom had an open space that we hadn’t figured out. No sink, no place to sit, or look in a mirror, or do anything else we could discover.
I had the ship light up a control panel that had previously been dark, and pressed a small button that was now revealed. Nothing appeared to happen, as Julia was quick to point out to me. By way of answer, I stepped into the small empty square of floor. I felt an eerie quivering through my body. Even I wasn’t quite expecting that, and I stepped out of it quickly.
