10: The Tower

1538 Words
Kit ran straight to the ruins, not a care in the world, just running straight and not looking back. In his haste, a bunch of memories are spiraling in his head, the memories he had during his childhood. His Grandfather, Roger the shopkeeper, and the unknown girl he saved when he was still a child. "Damn it why now?!"  Kit hurriedly dashed towards the dark tower he saw just earlier, it was abandoned he thought 'cause there were no lights on that tower, nor any activity. If there was someone living there, then he's safe. He felt his knees failing him, he pushed himself quite too far, his leg muscles are starting to give up. His stamina wont last longer, that water he had earlier replenished his stamina a little, but now that stream water is probably burning in his stomach. He remembered what Cromwell said to them last time, "A person who's in danger will feel adrenaline rushing through his body, like a little rabbit running from a predator. Use that adrenaline to your advantage and make your way to escape." Cromwell said that during their training, all his physical training probably paid off, but not entirely. "s**t! I haven't had my first kiss yet!" Kit lamented on how he'll die without having someone to love, he remembered clearly the way he courted the baker's daughter, though he's quite handsome, but not handsome as those young noble boys. He poured his heart to that young lady. Sadly it didn't go so well. He got past the thick trees and arrived at a more spacious place, still the wolves are chasing him. The tower he's been talking about was right in front of him, a couple of running left and he'll be able to reach the tower. He looked back and didn't see the red eyes, he felt relieve for a moment and then he heard howls from afar.  He slowed down when he reached the huge tower, it was a huge tower which was made in bricks and ceramics. The wooden door was closed shut, the huge tower was covered in moss and vines, probably abandoned and no one has returned to this tower ever since. Kit used his last strength to kick the door, it opened and a dark room filled with nothing meets him, well it's better than getting eaten alive by wolves. He got inside and shut the door, he found crates and pushed them to the door to completely seal it. He must wait until morning before he can get out, like those survival books he'd been reading. He search around the dark room and luckily the moon was peeking through the window, this gave him a little light to work with. He found stairs leading up to the tower's main floor. He thread the old wooden staircase carefully to not destroy this old wood and not kill himself in the process of falling. "I can't- I'm to tired." Kit said while's he's going up, one step at a time. The moon is giving him light. He carefully climbed up, the can hear the wood make sounds while he's stepping on it. Some of the wood came off, thankfully the stair is supported by stones underneath. After climbing quite a long staircase, he reached a short ladder leading to the trap door where the room should be, he climbed the ladder and opened the trap door, The door was hard to open since it's old. "C'mon! Open!" Kit used his little strength to push the trap door open. When he opened the trap door, he hurriedly climbed up and was greeted again with a dark room, but this time it was spacious, like a large study room filled with old bookcases. He scanned the books using the moon's light to see it. It was so old that the paper is crumbling. "How long has this been here.." Kit pondered as he walks around, he saw a table with old pen and ink, an unfinished book it seems "Seems like the guy who lived here didn't finish this book." He took it, but the written language was in an unknown language he didn't know. Every page he flipped, it was the same page. He was surprised the book was preserved unlike the books in the bookcase Kit opened the drawer of the table and found a scroll, the scroll was in perfect shape and didn't wither, he opened the scroll to see what was the content. He was greeted by an unknown magic patter, probably a magic circle or rune. Then it lit up in a pale blue light, a ball of light suddenly emerged from the scroll, after the blue light floated up, the scroll slowly vanished, "A magic scroll?!" Kit was dumbfounded a bit, but continued to search the place. The pale blue light, or an orb was following him since he's the one who opened the scroll. In one corner, a table with old bottles and a bowl of old ingredients were found, seems to be an alchemy table. "Old alchemy ingredients, hm?" A cabinet besides the table caught his attention, he hovered the light over the old cabinet and opened it, he saw bottles with liquids inside. Some of the bottles has been covered in dust, he took one and swiped the dust away. Kit saw a bright red liquid, probably lighter than any potion he ever saw. He was surprised that the liquid is preserved, he opened the cork of the bottle and fresh fragrance came out of it, he thought of a familiar scent to it, a scent in apothecaries in Camelot. "Is this supposed to be the rumored life potion? A health potion's color is green, this must be it!" He said to himself According to the Adventurers guild in Camelot, a rumored life potion was somewhere in the Eastern Forest, inside an old tower, and many more treasures. Kit was surprised he found the tower, he searched the whole tower.  He found a steel plate armor, an old copper sword, a broken staff and even more. He casually walked around until he found a door, he opened the old door and found the bedchambers. He walked inside and saw an old bed, besides the bed is a night table with a small book, maybe a journal. Kit picked up the journal and opened it, surprisingly, it was in a language he can understand/ He scanned the content of the journal and read them, he was surprised who's journal was it, It was the journal of the Great Sage, Merlin. The journal was from a sage named Merlin, he secluded himself in this tower he wrote many books regarding magics and alchemy. He was an excellent mage and alchemist of Camelot, he's also the teacher of the First Hero. After all the years, he secluded himself here until he fell ill and died in this tower.  Kit closed the Journal and looked around, it was indeed a sad death for a sage that lived all these years. A great sage who didn't like the outside world and secluded himself. He opened the journal again and noticed something written on the back. A single sentence.  "It's below here, the First Hero's treasure." Kit was surprised about this, the First Hero's treasure, not many know this. This is a legend about the buried treasure of the First Hero, the key why he's so strong lies within that treasure. Many adventurers set out to find this treasure all around the continent, sadly no one founded it, but it was here! In this very tower. But before that, he sat down and just closed his eyes, his consciousness was drifting because of the tiredness he felt. He slowly fell asleep. He woke up on a tremor, a big tremor. Kit was nervous and he looked outside the window and realized the tower was sinking on the ground, it was really going underground. Kit held on the wooden supports from the walls, the windows closed, he realized the ball of light disappeared from him.  "What in the world is happening?!" He asked himself as he continued to grip the wooden support. The tower continued to sink downwards and sometime later it stopped. Kit opened his eyes and the place was too dark to see. He walked slowly on the dark floorboards and trying hard to find the trap door, he didn't know how many time he fell down on the floor because of the darkness. Finally he found the trap door, he opened the door and climbed down the ladder, but then the staircase broke and he fell down, rolling on the stairs all the way to the bottom. "Argh! Why am I so unlucky!" He shouted inside the tower, he arrived at the door and removed the crates he used as barricades. He was greeted by an unknown cavern with torches on the wall, when he stepped out of the tower, the torches lit up from where Kit is standing towards the end of the cavern. Kit walked the unknown cavern, it was a long one so it took him much time. When he reached the end of the cavern, it was a large space of nothing "What the-" Kit was confused at first but he saw something blinking on the end of the large space. A blue light blinking, and a voice rang to his head "Come here, Hero."
