Chapter Sixteen - Encounter

Aramis Bronx Davina The bath was a little bit surprising because after I stepped in and opened the sprinklers for me, sand mud was forming below my feet. I didn't realize that we were that dirty, it didn't take me a while to clean myself and change into some comfortable clothes. Some bruises are forming on my arms and legs, it was probably just the impact that my tissues and skins didn't take because I haven't got any warm-up. After drying off myself, I went to clean my bag and took out the book from there. I gently flipped some pages and it's still telling me what happened to me a while ago. This is also a mystery that I want to solve. Why does this book keep on telling me what's happening to me in this new era of life? I just sighed and closed that book after hearing that Loane was calling me from the outside. Luckily, there's a dryer here that the royal maid allowed us to use for us to be presentable at the sight of the King later on. "Aramis, someone's asking for you," Dahlia whispered, so my face scrunched up in confusion. Who could it be? Dahlia pointed at the far corner near the castle grounds and that familiar man patiently waiting at the corner. "Isn't that Romel Calypso?" I curiously asked, so Loane just pinched my waist before smirking at me. "That's Lord Romel Calypso! I didn't know that you two were acquainted," she sneered, so I furrowed my eyes at her while shaking my head. "It's not what it looks like, I wonder what he wants from me?" I curiously asked, before excusing myself from there. "Um, Romel right? Do you need anything aside from my precious time?" I informally asked, and forgot that he was a noble and I should address him as one. He flinched after hearing my voice and looked at me with wide eyes. He coughed before trying to regain his composure. "Oh shoot!" I bowed my head before sighing, "I-I'm sorry Sir Calypso, I didn't intend to disrespect you," I mumbled before raising my head. He gently shakes his head, "I don't mind milady, I'm just glad that you're safe and sound about the first challenge, everyone was impressed at your performance," he reached out for my hand before kissing the back of it that surprised me for a moment. I'm still not used to these kinds of gestures. And what performance, they weren't there right? I just shook my head. "U-Uh thanks? Is there anything I can help you with?" I curiously asked, so he just stared at me for a long time before shaking his head. "No, I just want to see for myself that you're alright," he gently smiled, it's enough to make his face brighter than ever. Are some nobles as nice as him? He could be a King if he wants to. He has a different vibe from the rest of the nobles here. "W-Well um, I'm barely fine, but I'm good sir thank you for asking," I bowed my head, so he just nodded before coughing. "I'm delighted to hear that. If that's the case, I can now take my leave, till our next meeting, milady," he nodded his head before bidding me goodbye. I slowly waved my hands at him and realized that was freaking improper.  I just shook my head and turned around, gasping when the smug-looking faces of Loane and Dahlia were staring at me intently. "U-Um, is there a problem guys?" I curiously asked, so they just shook their heads before dragging me near the castle grounds. "The Lord is interested in you Aramis!" Dahlia exclaimed, she looks like she didn't get any sickness from last night. "He just asked if I was well, that guy--err good sir is just being nice," I reasoned out, so they both just laughed at me. "That really means that he's interested in you! No nobles do that unless they've taken a liking to you!" Dahlia explained, so I just shook my head because she's talking silly. "She's right, Aramis, you must be overjoyed...you can escape challenges here once a noble wants to pull you out," Loane added, which made my eyes widen. "Is that for real?" I curiously asked, and they both just nodded at me as Dahlia continued explaining why some nobles are here watching this challenge. Some of them are rich enough to compensate with the King's wants and allow that warrioress to leave the challenge for his hand, only if the warrioress agrees. It was a good and pleasant offer, but that Calypso looks like he just wants to ask if I'm alright. Plus, you were being taken by the nobles probably for entertainment, commitment, and protection. Either of those three, but Dahlia told me that many warrioress would grab on that opportunity because they don't want to continue this challenge any longer. Many minutes had passed, and the continuous arrival of survivors was being examined by us. Some of them only got some wounds and they brought ladies that had violet skins and it looks like they're not breathing anymore. "W-What happened to them?" I worriedly asked, so Dahlia avoided looking at that horrendous sight. "Scorpion beast, they probably got poison and didn't get any remedies and d-died," Dahlia gripped her hands, which made me look at those girls intently. The skin turned violet, some of their eyes were wide open and so their friends were forced to close them with their hands. This is the reality I have now, I'm witnessing girls die because of these stupid challenges just because this King wants a wife. "Aramis! You're here!" A familiar voice was to be heard, and my heart was pleased seeing Rhea with my wagon mates. "Y-You guys survived," I almost cried and hugged them all. I was just so happy seeing that they managed to survive on their own. "It's all thanks to you, Aramis, we wouldn't have gotten that far without you," she whispered, so we continued talking about their experiences until they decided to look for healers to heal their wounds. I'm just happy to see that they're alive. A little while later, there's a loud sound of a trumpet announcing that the King is here to see us finally, we all stood up and left some space with the barely breathing survivors. The King stood straight on the front, even if he's not talking, I can tell that his presence is shouting dominance while nobles and richtians were following him from behind. "Greetings and congratulations warrioress for surviving the first challenge of this event," the King smiled and I can tell that it's his other personality again. "I'm delighted to hear that a hundred of you survived and unfortunately, 50 bid us goodbye," he announced, which made my eyes widen. "Fifty have died?" Loane whispered, so Dahlia just nodded at her. I remained looking blankly on the front and saw that the King stole a glimpse from my position and secretly smiled. Lots of murmurings surrounded the grounds, so the King raised his hands to pipe us down. He looks happy despite the news that he has heard. How can he smile like that? How can he celebrate after hearing that ladies or rather his people are dying because of his stupid event? I gripped my hand and lowered my head down, I don't want to cause any trouble right now. We all had too many things on our plates and I don't want to be added over there. "Aside from that, I would like to call on those three girls that defeated the ferocious beast on the desert island with their own hands," the King added, which made me flinch. "The scorpion beast was defeated by noble warrioress named as Soriah Talina with the aid of Kristina Rewey," he announced, so faint claps was to be heard from the corners of the grounds and two warrioress in decent armor clothes went to the front and bowed at the sight of the King. Soriah...Mr. Ferdinand told me about her being the strongest in the nobles. He remained blank in his face before nodding at them as they went towards the other side, "And last but not the least, is a warrioress from peasantians," even though he hasn't said anything, I knew what he's going to call me. "Aramis Bronx Davina, slain the saw-scaled viper with her own hands," the King announced. I was expecting claps, but none of them did that aside from Loane and Dahlia, all of them eyed my presence after Dahlia pushed me to go in front. It was quiet and all their eyes were on me as I slowly trotted on the center stage, did I do something wrong? A lot of rumors such as 'She defeated that alone?' 'She was alone when she encountered that beast?' 'Is she a monster herself?' 'How did she do that?' but I didn't mind them as I quickened my pace to go in front. Was it that unbelievable that I defeated it alone? Well, I can't believe it myself either, so I just sighed and decided to bear with it. After stepping foot in front, the King greeted me with a pleased aura plastered in his face, my face scrunched up in confusion after he did that. What is wrong with this King? I just shook my head. Even if I didn't want to, I was forced to bow down to him before walking towards the sides of those two nobles. Some announcements were blocked from my ears as I stared at the warrioress that tried to survive that first challenge, they all looked exhausted, wounded, and it looks like we all haven't got enough sleep because of the bags that are visible below our eyes. "Before we descend to our quarters, warrioress we have prepared a feast, we all know that you're starving as of this moment, you may proceed and the rest of our talk will be announced tomorrow at noon," the King dismissed us, he planted another glance at me before leaving the castle grounds. The nobles followed us from behind and my eyes noticed Romel Calypso smiling at me as he bowed and left with those nobles who couldn't take their eyes off me. A weird feeling was starting to form inside me that could make my stomach churn, something tells me that the next challenges would be difficult. The way some nobles stare at me, they all look like they're plotting something dangerous or maybe I'm just too traumatized towards the first challenge and seeing things. I still can't believe how I survived despite how many hours we spent in the middle of the bright, hot sun, and how extremely cold it is at night. I'm waiting for my body to break down, but that's clearly not what's happening right now. My eyes peered at my almost dry hands, the memories of the past Aramis are slowly filling me with information that I need. I just have to be careful at all times and I have to be mindful of what might happen next. I'm inside this strange world and I have to survive from it. After the royalties, nobles, and richtians left, the middletians and peasantians warrioress then stormed into the hall and they were all greeted with abundant meals that almost made them tear up. The richtians warrioress decided not to join us as they left for their own hall and looked at us with disgust. I really don't get why they look at us like that, we're all warrioress trying to survive just like they do. "Aramis? Hey? Are you coming?" Dahlia tapped my shoulders, so I flinched before nodding as I went towards them in the hall. We took long enough that we almost stayed at midnight at that hall. Some of us can't stop eating because we're all starving from trying to contain our hunger and as for my mates, we're being cautious about eating those apples that were left trying to slice fairly so we all can have a piece. I on the other hand went back to my quarters and rested on the bed, Loane and Dahlia continued mingling with other people. My hands fished out the book again from my bag and opened it to check if some scenarios that have happened a while ago were written. I wasn't disappointed when I read what happened a while ago. I tilted my head quizzically when I noticed that there's an extra page. My eyebrows furrowed when I read it, 'The vigorous warrioress was busy reading something when the door was slammed open and was taken by someone unknown to her' and realized that this hadn't happened a while ago. That's odd... I shook my head and kept the book in my bag when I became alarmed when someone slammed the door wide open, and before I could even react, I was taken against my will. To be continued...
