What's inside the letter

chapter 3 Dear A, I will attach here the photos I captured this morning. There is a butterfly that came to visit me today I think she wanted to see how I was faring, or maybe she’s waiting for me to join her? I don’t know. But, I love how the butterfly looked like. It looks so pretty under the sunlight. I don’t know how it managed to enter my room, maybe it came from the window? but I'm not so sure since I was at the third floor of the building, do you think it could fly this high up? There were also no flowers anywhere near me or anything fancy that might attract it, not that I am complaining, because if anything, it actually made me a little bit happy. Even if it's just a brief moment itcomforted me. Love, Ashley -- Alice POV “Don’t believe her, dad. It is not a love letter.” I said. Just to make it clear to him, “Then what’s in it? Why haven't you opened it yet? Are you scared we'll get you busted?” Dad asks. I took the envelop and opened it in front of them to prove my point. I am nervous about the content of this letter. I wonder who it came from? If this letter were from the scholarship I just applied into, then I’m doomed. My parents would probably know about it now. ‘It's an invitation letter. Huh? From whom and for what?’ I talked to my self. “What is it dear?” Mom asks. I sat there looking confused still not reading it's full content. “It is apparently an invitation letter, mom” I ssaid looking at her. “Hmm? From who? What kind of invitation is it? A birthday invitation? A wedding? Maybe it’s from your Auntie Millie from Canada.” Mom said “No mom, it's actually from a university but I don’t know anything about this school. It’s not familiar to me” I said, then proceeded to read it. In the left upper part of the letter was where the name of the school, school’s address, contact number and email were indicated. The school’s address were really not that familiar. Dear Ms. Anderson, I would like to inform you that you were being invited to enroll in our University…. ‘Huh? An invitation letter for me to enroll in their university? Is there such a thing like that? I haven’t heard of it before, at least not with a person like me who's not even in the varsity team or in any sports for that matter. Doesn't this thing only happens to athletes? or to those students who have potentials in sports, and were being scouted by different schools to enroll in their university?’ I said to myself “So?” Dad asks. Waiting for me to talk about what’s written in the letter. “I don’t know what this mean, dad” I said. “Why? What’s in it?” “This letter is from the director of Quirin Academy. It said that I was being invited to enroll in their University. They were actually offering me a scholarship grant, and that I needed to go to their school personally or email them my response” I said. "Isn't this weird? I mean, I am not an athlete so why scout me? Maybe this letter is for another person but they emailed it to the wrong address? Maybe it’s for the kid next door or something?” I said. I don’t think this letter is for me, but what are the odds of it being sent to my address with my name also written on it, right? Last time I checked, my neighbor's kid didn't have the same name as me, but I still believe it wasn't really mine because I've never applied in any scholarship program under Quirin Academy. “Wait, did you just said that the director of Quirin Academy invited you to enroll in their school?” Dad asks “Yeah, why?” I answered while slowly nodding my head. “But like I'vesaid I think they got the wrong address---” Dad took the letter from my hand and read it himself. Mom read the letter as well. “Oh my God! You are so lucky Alice!” Mom shriek in excitement. “What is it? Why do you all look so excited?” I asked confused. "Because it's from the Quirin University, uhh the same Quirin Academy which is widely known as an international college here in our country who offers limited scholarship grants. Uhm, I mean, they don’t want or allow students to apply for their scholarship, because they personally invite students to be their scholar and to study in their University for free” Dad said. He looks so happy and excited about it. The look on his face is priceless. Really? But, I haven’t heard of this school before, besides there's still the fact that it may have been sent to the wrong address. “You look confused sweetheart” Mom said looking at me. “Hahaha I understand what you are feeling. you might probably be thinking that you haven't heard anything about that school, or of that school and that it actually exists, right?” She asks. I nodded my head. “Why is dad so excited about it?” I asks. What was it about that school that made my dad so happy and excited? It was just a letter from that University? I get that me, suddenly being invited to enroll in that school for free was something to celebrate for, but I didn't saw him this happy when I received scholarship grant from different schools during my high school days before, so why now? “Because that is your dad’s dream school but unfortunately, his grades did not qualify for that university” Mom said. Ohh, so that’s why dad looked so excited about it. “They provides the best chefs in the world, sweetie. They asked a lot of famous chefs in the world to guide and teach their students in a particular subject to prepare them for the future. That’s why it became my dream school before but sadly, I didn’t make it because of some failed grades I've gotten in high school. I've never really taken my high school seriously at that time, because I thought I don’t need high marks to enter college, as long as I have the documents they need, pass the entrance exams and interviews, then I'll be ok. I didn't know that grades are important in qualifying for their scholarship grant back then” Dad explained. Hmm, so that’s why. Now I understand why he didn't go to Quirin Academy, considering it was his dream school. “But mom, I haven't really applied for their scholarship grant nor have I accepted it just yet, so don't celebrate just yet. I haven’t even decided what University I wanted to enter and what course I wanted to apply or take yet. Besides how sure are you that the letter was really for me?” I said “Like what I've said, the Quirin Academy doesn’t want or let students apply for their scholarship, they're the one's who carefully chooses deserving students to offer the scholarship to, and they're pretty strict and keen in choosing those students. So you don't have to worry about the letter not being yours” Dad said. “Why me? How did they even knew me? and where I lived?” I asked. “They are not just any other colleges here in our country, they're the most prestigious and sought after school here. That's why most of the schools here in our country passes their exceptionally excelling students records to Quirin, that's what your school also probably did. Your former school probably see great potential in you. Once Quirin have selected a deserving student, they invited them in their school and offered them scholarship. Also, the former school where that chosen student have graduated from during their senior high school will also gain some sponsorship from Quirin’s shareholders for one year, it's a win-win situation.” Dad said. Wow, so this Quirin University gives a huge privilege not just to lucky students, but also to schools out there? It’s like once Quirin invited you as their student, you and your former high school both benefit from it. It'll be like you've both suddenly won a lottery. “Why are they doing that? Doesn’t it going to put my high school in debt or something? They don't owe their students something right? I mean, why are they giving something for their sholars former school too?” I asks “They are only like that to those they've chosen. Scholars and their former will both have a privilege. As to why they were doing it, we don't know. Maybe it's for their gratitude for shaping up excellent students.” Dad said. “How’s the school’s policy dad? Were they pressuring their students into aiming high and maintaining a particular high grades or average scores? Won't it be hard for the students to maintain their grades and to live up to their expectations?” I asks. Well, I don’t care how beautiful or promising the Academy is. I don’t even care if they offered me a million for my allowance. If I will suddenly suffer from a mental breakdown from too much pressure or will got depressed, I'd probably avoid it. Also, what if I couldn't focuse and maintain my grades because of the peer pressure? What would become of me? Will I be kicked out? “Nah, You won’t have any problems in Quirin. As a scholar, even though they expect you to maintain a high grade, they won’t easily or suddenly remove you from the school and from the scholarship grant when you get a barely passing grade as long as you're not failing it. They will just talk to you about it, ask you of what had happened, what external factors is affecting your study, and they will help you solve it. They will support you until you’re motivated enough to study again. They don’t easily replace or lose their scholars just because of low marks. They understands that every students will be having a hard time on a particular subject, or in adjusting to their new environment, so instead of replacing them or removing them from school, they reach out to help them". Dad said. Wow, it seems like the Academy is a dream university for every students. That maybe one of the reason why my father really wanted to enter that University “Email them quickly. Tomorrow, we’ll drive you at the Academy” dad said. “Dad, I just graduated yesterday, I wanted to relax and chill for now. Besides, Ashley were also just been buried yesterday. I needed some time to mourn of her passing first” I said. “Hmm, Okay. But email them immediately if you have already decided, so that they will know if they were to expect you to come or not” Dad said. “I will” I said. If I enroll to Quirin Academy, then how would I be able to find the guy that Ashley keeps on mentioning in her diary? I need to know him more and what school he is studying at. I still need to revenge for my best friend. What kind of a guy that person thinks he is? He should've at least went to Ashley’s burial. He should have at least introduced himself properly and ask for forgiveness. Oh right! What am I thinking? I've forgotten the fact that he just left Ashley suddenly. He ghosted my best friend during her worst state, and it causes her a lot of more pains. I will make him pay, I'll make sure he'll feel all the pains my best friend have endured when he left her. On the other hand, Why do I feel like everything is not right? Like all of these were just too good to be true? Even though Quirin chooses me to be their scholar, I am not sure if I should push their scholarship grant. I am not an athlete. What even are their qualifications on choosing their scholars? I don’t know any sports, so if that is what they were looking for then I'm not cut out for it. I played badminton once, but it resulted to my embarrassing lost, that's why I've never played any sports again after that. Ashley also played badminton and volleyball too, and her teams actually always won every match, and she was their star player. She's the sporty type not to mention she's also smart. If she were still alive now, I wouldn't be so surprised if she were also being offered a scholarship grant in Quirin. I mean why wouldn't they right? She's a complete package. Anyway, I don’t think they can benefit from me during sports competition or anything related to sports at all because I suck at it. So I don't get what Quirin saw in me. ‘Wait, what if the invitation letter is not really for me? I take a look at the letter again, verifying if they really delivered it from the right address. I double checked the name, the house address, and re-read it again and again. Sure enough nothing was amiss. Everything really is addressed to me. “What is it, sweetheart?” dad asks. “I am just double checking all the information on the letter. I'm still quite doubtful about whether it is really for me or not” I said “And? Are your questions answered? Did it make you a little less doubtful?” Dad asks I nodded my head. “Why are you so worried anyway? Don't you trust your skills? Do you really think they sent it to the wrong person?” Mom asks. “I know what I can do mom, it’s just that, I felt like everything were surreal. Everything is happening so fast. It was too good to be true. I just woke up hearing the news that I'm being invited to enroll in a prestigious school, from the letter I just received this morning. I didn’t even apply for it. I mean, what’s the catch? Why is the Quirin director became interested in me all of a sudden?” I asks. “Like what I've just told you, they are the one who chooses their scholars, how may times do I need to repeat myself? You may not know how, why or what is the reason behind it all but maybe while you were focused on making your projects done before the deadline, or reviewing for your final exams, your former school might have already send your profile to Quirin. And that the director is already evaluating your documents while you were too busy focusing on your acads” Mom said. “Your mom is right. I don’t think that everything that's happening is fast paced baby. Everything that's happening was pre-destined and because it is the right time. Just pray and trust God” Dad said. Maybe they are right. Maybe I'm just overthinking the things that's is happening to me right now because it's too overwhelming. Besides my parents appears to be super fine with it, so I guess I'll just have to ease up on my worries.
