`chapter-4

The school day had ended, and Rose hurried towards the pack house, aware that Mary, the head maid, would be waiting for her. Upon entering the building, she was met with Mary's stern expression, indicating trouble was brewing. "What do you think you're doing, coming in here at this hour?" Mary barked, her eyes flashing with anger. “I'm sorry, Mary, I had an extra class today,” Rose tried to explain, but Mary interrupted her sharply. "Don't even bother trying to make excuses. I've heard them all before. You're just lazy and incompetent, and you always will be." The other servants looked on with disdain, their expressions suggesting that they agreed with Mary's harsh words. "You should be grateful that we even keep you around," Mary continued. "Most other packs would have kicked you out a long time ago. But I suppose we're just too kind for our own good." Mary's cruel words cut deep, and Rose felt a wave of sadness wash over her. Mary seemed to sense her vulnerability and seized the opportunity. "You know what your problem is? You're just too weak. You don't have what it takes to be a part of this pack." As Mary's words echoed through the kitchen, Rose felt tears welling up in her eyes. She tried to hold back the flood of emotion, but it was futile. A single tear rolled down her cheek, quickly followed by others, until she was openly crying in front of everyone. Mary sneered at her. "Look at you, crying like a baby. You're pathetic. Now, stop sobbing and start cleaning the field." With that, Mary dismissed Rose. The moon had risen high in the sky, casting a pale glow over the werewolf pack. Rose, the servant, continued her hard work, putting the finishing touches on preparations for the upcoming match between two powerful werewolves. As she scrubbed and swept, the sound of footsteps approached from behind. Rose turned to see Mary, the head maid, scowling at her. "Rose, you lazy girl! You're not doing this properly!" Mary scolded, her voice echoing through the stillness. Rose hung her head, feeling the weight of Mary's disappointment. She knew she had to work harder to avoid punishment. "If you don't finish this on time, there will be no dinner for you tonight," Mary threatened, before walking away. Feeling the pressure mounting, Rose picked up her pace and continued her work diligently. Suddenly, a peculiar scent filled the air—a blend of dark chocolate and lavender, growing stronger by the second. Though familiar, she couldn't quite place it. Initially ignoring it, the scent's intensity compelled her attention. Driven by curiosity, Rose followed the scent, leaving her cleaning materials behind. As she approached, the scent intensified, accompanied by the sound of heavy breathing and growling. Rose turned a corner and spotted a guy working out, his back to her. Without thinking, she rushed toward him and placed her hand on his shoulder. He turned around, and to her shock, it was Alex. “Mate,” Rose's inner wolf whispered for the first time. She smiled, seeing Alex, her mate. "You are my mate," she said, her voice filled with joy. Unable to contain her happiness, she embraced him tightly. But Alex didn't respond with warmth. Instead, he pushed Rose to the ground. “Don't you dare touch me, you untouchable b***h,” he spat, his eyes filled with hatred and disgust. He turned away, refusing to meet her gaze. "Did you think I would embrace and kiss you, knowing you're my mate? I hate you. Everyone in the pack despises your existence." Rose stood up, catching Alex's hand, her eyes welling up with tears. "But Alex, I'm your mate. The Moon Goddess chose us," she pleaded, hoping he would understand. Her heart shattered at his rejection. She had believed her mate would accept her, but now he, too, despised her. His hatred felt like a crushing weight, breaking her heart into pieces. “I don't care about the Moon Goddess. A weak, cursed, low-rank daughter of a murderer will never be my mate or the Luna of this pack,” Alex yelled, his words like daggers. He spat in her face. “I, Alex Blackwood, reject Rose Darkmoon as my mate.” Alex walked away, leaving Rose screaming in heart-wrenching pain. He didn't care about her suffering. Rose clutched her chest, the agony unbearable for a Zeta rank wolf. She felt as if her heart was breaking into a thousand pieces. For the first time, her wolf was active, and now it, too, was engulfed in sorrow. “Why, Moon Goddess? What have I done to you? You took my parents, and now you're taking my mate. Are you punishing me for past sins? What satisfaction do you gain from this? Why don't you end it all and free me from this endless trauma?” Rose cried, collapsing onto the ground, her anguish echoing through the empty space.
