It had been 9 long years since he had left Huntington training base, and now he had returned as the new base Commander for a term of no less than one year. It was his 'vacation' from the Military, demanded by the contract he had signed. For atleast 9 months of the next year, he was expected to pretty much be on his own. He sat on the transport plane that would deliver him to the international airport, as his base did not yet have an air strip. Something he vowed to correct in the next few months so he could come and go as he pleased.
The news had been blaring it for hours, as the other passengers tried to figure out who it was on the plane that was General Demon. He was glad he had his subordinates going on a sort of vacation as well, as all 5 of them had been together the entire 9 years. They were known as the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and any one of them was nearly as good as he was. They had created many Brigades over their 9byear term, training the founding members themselves. Their baptisms in blood and conquests that none should have survived, yet their brigades escaping nearly unscathed as they rode over the destroyed battlefields.
Each one of the four specialized in a branch of the Imperial Army, while Levi Demon had mastered them all. His squad alone had destroyed more Battalions of enemy troops alone, than the others had combined during their bloody 9 year campaign. Each had proven just how powerful righteous vengeance could be, as he had trained each of the four in various techniques as well over the years.
As soon as the doors opened he watched as all four of the horsemen were bombarded by the gathered press and socialites that had gathered for the reports of a powerful General arriving in Huntington. Levi stepped onto the steps of the plane, and took his first breath of free air in ten years. He relaxed a bit as he opened his eyes, and began descending the steps remembering what he had endured to get to this point. It had literally been hell to survive, but he had not once went back on his word. Each and every time he had engaged the enemy, he had done so with ruthless abandon, that could destroy entire Companies in a single day. He alone had turned the tide of battle when the Norman's had invaded from the Northern Wastes that few ventured into. It was his first deployment, and 10 Battalions had encircled his division in a blizzard. By the time the snow cleared a few hours later, 8 Battalions lay dead, and the others had been routed by 12 men lead by Levi. That was when the legend of the Demon was born, as the enemy troops who had survived had captured video of his glowing red eyes and swords that moved fast enough to cut bullets from the air. Even from machine guns he was able to cut every one of the bullets that flew at him.
By the time his men had found him chasing the 2 battalions into the frozen wasteland, he was covered head to toe in blood. That was the picture the Empire had released when they announced the successful defense of the Northern borders.
As soon as his feet touched the ground however, he was drug back into reality by the one voice he had hoped not to hear today.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't the convict Levi, free at last huh?" Robert sneered at him as he stopped dead in his tracks and glared at Robert Strauss.
"At one time, I had to tolerate your bullshit Robert. That time is long past, what do you want?" Levi demanded of him.
Robert acted offended as he looked at his adopted brother. "I just came to offer you a job again big brother. Seeing as jobs are difficult these days for ex cons, I figured you would be grateful for a job cleaning toilets." he sneered at Levi who just took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a minute.
"No Robert, I wouldn't take a thing from you again. After what happened, you are lucky I do not rip your throat from your neck and s**t in the hole I just made." Levi said before he opened his eyes slowly and looked at his former brother. "I tell you what though, you tell those worthless parents of yours, if the lot of you come and beg for my forgiveness, I will not utterly destroy you. Do not however, and I will let karma take its dear sweet time as it strips away every cent your entire family ever made off the deal you betrayed me over."
Robert's eyes went wide as he looked at Levi. "What's a piece of trash convict like you think you are going to be able to do to us? We have expanded far more than you could possibly hope for." Robert sneered at the Empire he had built as Levi smiled devilishly.
"You mean the Empire you squandered away and let stagnate under your care? The one that is so overextended now it is about to be ripe for the precious picking as it begins to unravel bit by juicy bit." Levi said still entertained that his brother thought he would ever get the upper hand. "What happens next, you will never see coming little brother, as you never had the foresight to play the long game. You made the mistake of thinking you had a decade to prepare for me, not realizing I spent a decade preparing for the day I would get to begin. Come work for you? Please brother, you couldn't afford my consultation fee, let alone to actually hire me." Levi said smugly as a Bentley stopped in front of him with a very attractive female in the front seat.
"Levi?" she asked him as he nodded and opened the door.
"Indeed I am." he said to her before he looked at his adopted brother. "This is where we part ways dear ex brother, as I will never call you family again. You have 30 days to repent of your sins against me, before you begin to reap what you have sown." Levi told him before he got in the car and closed the door before it rushed off.
The woman drove quickly from the airport across town, headed straight for the base that was technically now his home. "Sir, I am Colonel Margaret Wallace. I am your Executive assistant here at Fort Huntington." she said with a smile.
"Levi Daemon, please to meet you." he said as hs watched the scenery and cars fly past as she drove extremely quickly in the emergency lane as she was allowed to do.
"I know who you are sir, and may I be the first to congratulate you. Not many actually survive, especially what you went through." she said being intimately familiar with his record.
"No, never congratulate me for that. I did what was necessary, and am a better man for it. Now it is time to recover my life, and make those who made me suffer that, feel just a portion if it in return." Levi replied as she took the exot that would lead her to the base in a few miles.
"Yes sir." she said formally as she reached into a briefcase and pulled out a thick manilla envelope. "Inside is the details, documents, cards, and identifications you will need for your new life. You may resume your previous name, or you may keep the one you have now." she said handing it to him as he set it in his lap.
"I will be keeping the one I have, and need you to get me a severance of adoption form as well." he replied as the base came into view.
"I will have legal draft it as soon as we arrive, and it should be ready by the end of the day. The current base Commander has invited you to dinner tonight sir, at the Kensington." she said as she pulled up to the gate and flashed her badge to the Specialist on Guard Patrol.
"Go ahead." he said after reading who she was and her Rank.
"I would be delighted to meet him there, although I am not sure I have appropriate attire." he said with a smile as she drove to the Administration Building.
"I am sure supply will be able to get ahold of something sir." she said knowing he had flown back from the Mexican front with none of his belongings. She lead him into the building, as he set about remembering the course she was taking to get to his isolated office in the back of the building. He would technically be the base Commander, but it was supposed to be a mostly ceremonial position as it would be run by a General several stars below what he was.
"I will make my way there shortly than." he said as they reached the area that was barren because there hadn't been anyone to fill this position in nearly a year. He walked into his office and sat at the desk as he looked at the barren walls. "Colonel, am I not supposed to mostly be on vacation over the next year?" he asked her.
"Yes sir, I believe the math equals out to about 1.8 working days required per week on average." she said knowing that would most likely never happen.
Levi nodded as he looked at his surroundings. "How long until my things arrive?" he asked her as she looked at the calendar.
"2 days sir." she answered.
"Excellent. That leaves 2 days at the end of the week for me to do this weeks work. Can you get me a reservation at the Kinsington?" he asked as she nodded and he dumped the contents of the file and began looking through it.
"I will ensure it is completed before you return from supply sir. Would you like a driver, or a car tonight?" she asked him quickly.
"Driver, I do not plan to return until my things arrive. Decorate your area how you see fit Colonel, and do not be afraid to add it to my budget. This area needs a little life if we are to utilize it at all. I assume there are multiple offices here?" he asked her.
"Yes sir, there are 12 total." she replied as he smiled.
"Excellent, we will have use for 10 of them. Take your pic of the remaining offices, and than set aside 4 seperate adjoining offices. Larger ones for Generals that will be joining our staff." Levi said as he had an idea that would change this base forever. It was not just a ceremonial role for him, as unless a National Emergency arose, this would be his personal post for the foreseeable future.
"Yes sir." she replied knowing only when he said to do something, you did it. When she had been briefed by the Emperor himself about this role, it was that no matter how absurd it seemed to her, he knew what he was doing. Not only that, he had the full support of the Emperor.
Levi strolled through the base, and smiled as he saw a group of Cadets going through the training courses he remembered from so long ago as he made the familiar walk to the Supply Warehouse. He walked in and started looking through the shelves when he heard the Sergeant walking up to the desk.
"Do not make me box your ears cadet." the gruff voice Levi remembered said before he had even seen the Staff Sergeant.
"You are welcome to try Sergeant." Levi said as he stepped up to the counter of Meyers. "Nice to know not everything has changed since I was here." he said as Meyers eyes opened wide.
"Well I'll be." Meyers said as he looked at Levi. "Demon indeed."
Levi laughed at that as he looked at the Sergeant. "How are you Sergeant?"
"Good sir, very good. Seems like hell was nothing compared to you." he said as he pulled up a stool and sat down. "What can I do ya for sir?" he asked grabbing a tablet and pen.
