Finally having completed her job for the day, Lynn thought of popping by the nearest newsstand to purchase her neighbour's favourite weekend paper as a token of gratitude for her timely help towards the absent-minded girl earlier on. Upon heading over to the mini corner shop to check out the papers, she was somewhat disappointed to find out that the date printed was indeed still Friday. Thinking it was getting all the more illogical, she went up to the store owner to seek an affirmation. Unfortunately, she nearly ran into a quarrel arguing with him about the "right" day it was supposed to be. Lynn ended up frustrated and had to quickly pay for the paper to rush away.
As stubborn as she could be in this kind of situation, she took a seat on a sidewalk bench and impatiently flipped through the pages. Disheartened, she leaned back in surrender, watching aimlessly at the crowds of passers-by before her eyes getting less as the seconds went by. Stifling a yawn, she let her weary gaze fall back onto the slightly creased front page of the day's paper, only to be drawn to a small piece of feature that had escaped her focus a few minutes ago.
"Record-breaking turnout at latest annual Neuroscience Society's conference."
Lynney's gaze flickered past the caption to rest on a portrait that was printed at a little more than twice the size of a man's thumb. It took at least a minute for her memory to get reactivated and capture a familiarity of the young man about her age that was shown in the small greyscale photograph.
It was in the dark of the night that they first met which coincided with the plain colour tone of the newsprint. Lynney sighed and wondered why she could be this sharp in remembering a stranger. Still, that did not prevent her from imagining the possibility of them encountering each other again under a similar circumstance. Perhaps, he could help her out with this mystery? Considering this likelihood, it dawned on her at long last that one of her most precious novels was gone and nowhere to be found inside her bag...
