He motioned with his hand for her to continue her questions but suddenly it's like she forgot everything she wanted to ask. She noticed his eyes were hazel now and not that petrifying red that had her knees trembling. He was definitely handsome with his sharp jaw, high cheekbones, small beard- that looked anything but unattractive on him- and those lips she wanted so badly to touch but she knew that that was unacceptable.
He was a vampire, she was human. His kind hates hers, he said so himself.
"So are you going to ask something or are you going to continue looking at me like that?" His voice reached her ears and snapped her back to reality. A blush made its way on her cheeks and she looked away to hide it but she was sure he saw it because of the smirk that was now decorating those lips.
"Uh... Let's start simple; what's your name?" She asked, rubbing the back of her head, still not meeting his eyes.
"Mason Steele."
Now that got her attention. She knew the guy was rich, she could tell by how luxurious the apartment was, but she didn't expect him to be the guy that owned the highest and most expensive building in New York. How rich was this guy exactly? By the looks he was giving her she realized he was getting annoyed so she quickly asked her next question.
"Can you eat human food?"
"Yes, but it doesn't do me any good. I have to spit it out after a while because my stomach can only handle blood." Mason said, leaning back against his chair. His shirt rose up and gosh, she could have fainted that exact moment. She quickly gathered herself before he could comment on anything. He seriously had her wrapped around his finger with those looks.
"Do you drink just human blood or..?" With that question asked, Anastasia made sure to cover her neck with her red hair just to be safe but she knew that even that wouldn't be enough. If he wanted to, he could kill her right then and there.
"All kinds of blood; human, animal but I prefer human. It's sweeter." She shuddered while he smirked.
"How long have you been a vampire?"
Mason answered quickly but he gave her an irritated look. Maybe he thought she would ask a different kind of questions but Anastasia wanted to learn more about him. Not sure why but she felt intrigued by him. "I was born one and I'm old enough to know that what I'm doing is illegal and that I have to stop".
He suddenly got up and turned his back to her. He made his way towards the big windows and held on the railing that was there. The redhead rose from her seat and walked closer to him. What did he mean by illegal? They were just talking. Anastasia touched his shoulder and he flinched away from her as if she was fire and she had burned him.
"You need to stay away!"
She shook her head being the stubborn girl she was, "Why?"
"I could you get you hurt or worse you could die by talking to me" Mason stated, moving further away from her and towards the hallway she had entered before. He was walking at human pace as if he was saying that he didn't want to leave but he had to.
"I know you could suck me dry but you haven't so --"
He snapped! He turned around abruptly, his eyes red and his fangs on display; he wanted to scare her away before it was too late. "No, not me! The others."
"What others?" she asked, moving closer. Her hands were clutching on her cropped sweater and her high heel boots clicked every time she took a step. "Why are you so afraid? It's not like we are doing anything! We are just talking."
He growled under his breath and punched the wall next to him, making her gasp and take a few steps back. "It would have been better if we are doing something else, vampires seduce humans all the times but they have one night stands so that humans won't find them or remember them the next day. What we are doing, what I am telling you is illegal. How could I have been so stupid?"
"Then why did you tell me to ask you this kind of stuff in the first place?" She yelled, running her hand through her hair exposing her neck. His eyes were quick to fall there but he looked away in a blink.
"Because I told myself that I would kill you after that." He answered truthfully, not breaking eyes contact.
Anastasia took a deep breath while she moved away from him in fear. He was going to kill her. How could she have been so stupid! Of course, he would kill her. She knew what he was- a monster- and he wasn't going to let her spread the word. If humans found out vampires existed, they would hunt them down. But why didn't he kill her that night? Why isn't he advancing towards her now? Why is he stepping away from her?
What does he want?
"What's stopping you right now?"
Before Mason could answer, a knock was heard making him stiffen. He gulped as they heard another male's voice yell cheerfully. His voice was full of excitement as if someone had told him he won the lottery but then again if Mason was rich so would his friends be, meaning money was nothing to them. "Hey, Mase! I can smell a human in there. Keep some for me, will you?"
Anastasia gasped in fear, moving far away from the door. Deep breaths escaped her mouth as Mason walked closer to her. Her back hit the wall next to the door of the room she woke up in and she closed her eyes, anticipation filling her veins. When nothing happened, when she felt no pain, she opened them only to find Mason's hazel eyes staring at her in wonder.
He opened the door and pushed her inside the room, making her hit the floor with a small thud. She heard the guy groan from outside. Could he hear what was happening there? Anastasia made a move to get up but Mason gave her a look that said: "Stay still and don't talk". He closed the door leaving her in the dark room but before she could do or scream anything, she heard him say.
"Sorry man, you came in late. I already finished my meal. Maybe next time!
