The next morning Wolf woke up with the five o'clock horn, quickly dressed, and ran down to the stable to check on the horses under his care, seeing to their feed and water. He also shoveled the accumulated manure into the wheelbarrow and disposed of it outside. With the horses taken care of he ran to the palace for breakfast with Shadow tagging along. At the door to the dining hall Wolf put the leash on Shadow and entered. He collected his breakfast and went to the pages' table where he sat down with George and Harold and a few other close friends. Shadow scooted under the table and lay down. Wolf warned his friends to not feed him, but they still tried. Shadow to his credit refused to eat cooked meat or eggs.
