*Dafina's POV*
I shifted nervously from foot to foot. I bit my lips and glanced up. Be brave, Dafina!! I let out an awkward laughter. SAY SOMETHING, YOU STUPID FOOL!! I mentally scolded myself and racked through my brain to think of what to say.
"How are you?" When the 3 words slipped out from my mouth, I felt like an i***t. Is that the best thing you can come out with, Dafina? 'How are you?' I groaned inwardly. I felt like knocking my head against the wall.
"Fine." Kayden sudden reply kind of shocked me. I looked at him and smiled brightly at him. I walked towards 2 chairs that were placed at a corner and I swept the dust away. I sat on one of them and patted onto the chair that was next to me. I looked at him earnestly and hoped that he wouldn't reject the idea of sitting next to me. After much hesitation, he started dragging his feet towards me and sat his butt on the chair. We stayed silence for a while before I decided to break it.
"Why... Why are you here? Did you... come looking for me?" I glanced to the side and tried to take a peek at his expression.
"Just happened to pass by." Kayden replied as he looked over to the other side. Just happened to pass by? The storage room was at a corner, unless deliberately, people wouldn't pass by this place. Furthermore, there was nothing to look at around the storage room. He came to look for me right? Can I think it this way? Unknowingly, my lips curved into a smile. Kayden was fidgeting uncomfortably on the chair. Is he feeling nervous? I giggled a little at that thought.
"What's your middle name?" I asked.
"Weaver."
"Kayden Weaver Smith..." I mumbled his name under my breath. Kayden tensed up a little before relaxing back into the chair.
"Favourite food?"
"Burgers." I wanted to get to know him. So I intended to ask him some questions. I was surprised that he would answer them although it was a one-word answer. Well. It was better than nothing.
"Favourite colour?" He finally turned to look at me. I shivered a little under his stare.
"Hazel." He replied and looked away from me again. Hazel... That was the colour of my eyes. I love the colour of your eyes too. I replied him mentally. But when I felt his eyes on me. Opps. Did I say it out loud? I lowered my head in embarrassment.
"Favourite Movies?" He took quite a while to answer this question. He even frowned at the question.
"None." He looked away from me when he gave his answer.
"Favourite type of songs?" I bent my head over to look at his face. He frowned even harder and tightened his clenched fist.
"None." I frowned at the answer he gave.
"Than what do you do during leisure time?"
"Running."
"Do you have siblings?" He started to tense up again when I asked him that question.
"Dead." He forced the answer out from his clenched teeth.
"I'm sorry." I didn't anticipate such an unexpected answer. I saw pain flashed through his eyes. I had the urge to stand up and hugged him tightly in my arms to comfort him. I was trying very hard to stop myself from doing so. He didn't say anything and continue to look anywhere but me.
"Do you... have any girlfriend?" I thought what of what Brittany had said previously and I couldn't help but wanting to ask him about it so I could clear my doubts although a part of me still believe Brittany was just hallucinating. When the word 'girlfriend' came out from my mouth, his eyes flickered. He seemed to be recalling some things in his mind. His jaws tightened and I saw pain flashed across his eyes before he masked it up.
"No." My lips immediately formed into a smile. In my mind, I was doing a happy dance. But he didn't happy at all. I then realised I had not seen him smile at all. Was it because of the questions I asked which caused him to recall about something bad that happened in the past? I moved closer to him and wrapped my arms around him.
"I'm sorry." I whispered. His body tensed up under my touch. I quickly released my arms that was placed around him because he seemed uncomfortable.
"I... I'm just going to finish up packing the books." I stuttered over my own words. I headed back to the shelf and tried to put the book in place. To my surprised, Kayden came to my side and helped me to place those books which were out of my reach.
"Thanks." He just nodded stiffly at me in reply. With his help, the task was completed just in time. There was a sound of the door unlocking and Mr Oak walked in.
"Why did you even locked the door?" Mr Oak didn't realised Kayden was with me until the both of us walked up to him.
"Kayden?" Mr Oak was surprised to see him. So... Mr Oak knew Kayden too. Mr Oak looked at him and me, and then back to him again. Mr Oak frowned a little but he didn't comment anything regarding the existence of Kayden and him helping me. Mr Oak just let us go. It was good that he just released us but it felt kind of weird too. Kayden didn't say anything either. He left after leaving the storage room. I walked back to my locker to grab my bag. Just as I wanted to leave the school building, I looked up to the sky and realised it was raining. Oh crap. I don't have umbrella with me. I looked at my watch. It was already 8.20 p.m. It was getting late and my stomach started growling in hunger. Argh. Forget it. I decided to run to my bicycle. I used my bag to shelter over my head and I started running across the open space to where my bicycle was locked. The rain blurred my vision a little and I was not really focusing on the direction I was heading. I ran into someone directly. I totally headbutt that person. I rubbed my head gently and looked up to see Kayden standing in front of me.
"I thought you left." I said. He handed me the umbrella that he was holding silently. I held it while he removed his jacket to put it on me. He guided me to his car and signalled me to go in. I hugged on tightly to his jacket. The jacket has his cologne smell on it. The bad thing was that my house wasn't very far from the school. The ride was short.
"Thank you." He dropped me off at my doorstep. I waved to him before I entered my house. The moment I stepped into my house I could hear the sound of him driving off. I went back into my room and lay on my bed. I can't stop smiling to myself. At least we made some progress. I thought. I took my pyjamas with me to the bathroom. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I realised I had his jacket with me. I took it off and hugged it tightly to my chest. I buried myself into his jacket and took a breath. I felt likea pervert doing that but I was addicted to his smell. It felt as if he was physically with me.
After bathing, I went to the kitchen to make myself some dinner. Few hours later, I went back to my room to sleep. But my mind can't stop thinking about Kayden. I tossed and turned, keeping a smile on my face. I looked at his jacket which I placed it on a chair. I decided to hug his jacket to sleep. He wouldn't know right?
The next morning, I was awaken by some clattering sound coming from outside. "What's going on?" I mumbled, still feeling sleepy. I walked out from my room, rubbing my eyes.
"Auntie Clara?" I looked around the living room but she wasn't there.
"Dafina!! RUN!!!!" Auntie Clara held a knif and ran out from the kitchen panicking.
"Auntie Clara, what's going on? Why are you holding onto a knife?" She stood back facing me and pointed the knife towards the kitchen. I peered around her and saw a man walked out of the kitchen. His eyes were pure black and he was raging with anger. There were cuts on his arm but within minutes, it healed by its own. My eyes widen upon seeing it. Am I imagining things? I must be dreaming. C'mon Dafina!! Wake up!!! I tried pinching myself and it was painful. I was not dreaming. That was real.
"Who is this?" I held Auntie Clara from the back and asked her. She shook her head in return. She didn't who was he. I did not know where my courage came from. I moved forward and stood in front of Auntie Clara.
"Who are you? And what do you want?" I asked. I looked quite brave from the outside but actually within me, I was shaking terribly.
"You don't need to know who I am. I want YOU!!!" The man lunged forward and pushed Auntie Clara to the side. He grabbed my throat and squeezed it tightly. I struggled and tried to break free from him. Auntie Clara attempted to attack him again but this time he smacked her hard on the head causing her to faint onto the ground immediately. My eyes widened in shock and my tears were threatening to flow out. When he released his grip, I fell to the ground breathing heavily.
"Auntie... Clara..." I crawled slowly towards the Auntie Clara who was lying on the ground. I never get to her. The man grabbed me up from the ground and swung me over his shoulder.
"Let me go!! Let me go..." I kept on struggling but it wasn't helping me in any way. Before the man threw me into the car, he covered something over my mouth. I could feel my eyes getting heavier. The last thing I saw was the man smirking away before darkness engulfed me.
