Chapter 5

I wasn't sure how long have I slept. Between the dreams and reality, I could feel hands touching my body. I heard murmurings every now and then. I tried to open my eyes but I just couldn't. "She will be fine." Someone said. The voice sounded like Chloe. Then, I heard shuffling sounds till everything went dead silence. I was about to drift back into darkness when I felt someone held onto one of my hands. I felt warm transmitting from the person's hands. I felt safe and comfortable with this person around. The person raised his hand and swept my fringe gently to the side. Who is he or she? He or she was not speaking. Out of a sudden, I felt something wet on my forehead. Is he or she kissing me? "Please open your eyes." The person finally spoke. I tried to recall whose voice this belonged to. Before I could even figure out, sleeping bugs came back to me. Unable to fight it, I drifted into dreamland again. I opened my eyes slowly and groaned when lights shone into my eyes. I squeezed them tight immediately. "Dafina?" I heard someone called my name. I forced myself to open my eyes again. The blurry images I was seeing started to sharpen. "She's awake!!!" Madison squealed in delight. I tried moving a little but my body was aching too much. I whined in pain. "Dafina, don't try to move too much." Chloe said. I nodded in response. I looked around the surrounding and the people crowding around my bed. There were only Madison, Chloe and Ava. I was a little disappointed that Kayden was not here. Well. What was I expecting? "Dafina, do you need anything? Water?" Ava asked in a gentle tone. "Y..Yes, please." My voice came out hoarse. I wanted to sit up but when I did that, I felt pain shooting up from my arm. I squeezed my eyes tight and took a deep breathe. "Dafina, don't force yourself." Chloe reprimanded. Madison held the cup of water, while Ava and Chloe came and helped me to sit up from the bed. "Thanks." I said. "Here you go." Madison handed me the cup of water and I took a sip of water. "How did I end up here?" I looked around again. I was at a hospital. Chloe, Madison and Ava looked at each other nervously. Memories started flooding back into my mind. I remembered going into the forest. I sat by the lake. Then... Wolves. Big Wolves!! "I saw big wolves!!! It was taller than me!!! I thought it was going to eat me!!!" I screamed in horror. "Dafina. Dafina, calm down. How is that possible? Wolves?" Chloe said jokingly. "I'm serious!!" Why doesn't she believe me? Ok. It's hard to believe I know but I really did see it!! I mean it was a wolf which attacked me!! "But we didn't see any wolves. We just found you lying on the ground with blood all over." Chloe explained. "But... My arm would have some claw marks." I tried to show them the scratches. Oh. My arm was bandaged. Stupid me. "There aren't any claw marks. The doctor told us your arm was wounded by tree branches. Don't worry. The doctor assured that there won't be any scars once it heals." Madison said. "But..." Am I dreaming all along? No. It's real, isn't it? I was starting to doubt myself. I couldn't be imagining the whole thing right? "Dafina, don't think too much. Just rest more." Ava said. I nodded at them. Probably it was all my imagination. Maybe I fell down in the forest and went unconscious. I thought of all ponsibilities but I was unable to convince myself. I looked at the 3 of them and their faces were filled with guilty. I bet they knew something but they didn't want to tell me. Secrets and more secrets. Somehow, I hated them for hiding things from me but if they did not want to say it out, I couldn't force them either. I trusted that they would tell me in due time. "What day is today? Don't you guys have school?" I asked. "It's Wednesday. We skipped it. We need to take care of you." Chloe said. "Otherwise Kayden will come after us if you are not well taken care of." Madison giggled. "He wouldn't." I shook my head, feeling a little sad. Chloe nudged Madison. "Ah. Ah. Don't talk about him already. Probably we should decide when are we going out to have a girls' day together!!!" Madison said excitedly. "Poor Alexander. His credit card will be swept multiple times again!!" Ava made fun of Madison. "Well, I'm his mate! He should pamper me." Madison defended herself. "Mate?" They called each other mate? "Erm... I mean I'm his girlfriend. Yea. Girlfriend." Madison laughed awkwardly. "The guys are at school?" I asked. "Nope. They have some other things to attend to." Chloe said. "Oh." I mumbled. Throughout the days I was lying on the hospital bed, I never even seen Kayden once. He didn't come and visit me at all. Every day, whenever the door was being pushed open I would hope that at least once the person who walked in might be Kayden. I mean I was happy when the others came to visit me but part of me felt disappointed. Till the day I was discharged, I was still anticipating that he would come. I guess when there was anticipation, there would be disappointment. *** *After a week* I was sitting in a classroom for my last lesson of the day. Chloe and Aiden did not have this class with me and I did not know anyone else in this class. I just got to survive through. I opened my book and placed it on the table. "Oh look! The bxxxh is studying!!!" My book was being ripped out from my hand. I looked up and saw the group of girls whom I'd knocked into during my first day of school. I stood up from my seat and reached out to grab my book back from the person holding onto it. I think she is the leader of the group? Brittany? I recalled the name that Chloe had mentioned before. "Could you return me my book?" I said while trying to reach out for my book. "Look girl. Let me tell you something. If you are smart enough, you should stay away from Kayden. He is mine!!" Brittany snarled at my face. "But I didn't see the both of you together before. Are you having one-sided love?" I questioned her. Seeing Kayden being so distant with people other than his friends, I didn't believe Kayden would hang out with this Brittany girl. "What are you trying to say?!!!" Brittany got pretty mad at me. She threw my book across the room and it smacked against the wall creating a loud sound. The whole classroom went dead silence. Just then, the teacher walked into the classroom. "What are the both of you doing? And whose book is this on the floor?" The teacher looked around the classroom and fixed his gaze on the both of us. Then, I saw a change in Brittany's expression. She started to pretend to be in pain and accused of me using my book to throw at me. The worst thing was the teacher actually believed her lies! What on earth was that?! "Ms Silver, see me after class." The teacher said in a cold tone. "But..." I tried to protest but obviously the teacher ignored me. I didn't do anything wrong!!! I was the innocent one! Couldn't the teacher see it?! Brittany was having this victory smile on her face. Obviously she was having this hallucination thinking that Kayden was hers. They couldn't really have a thing for each other right? "Settle down class. I will be your teacher for Financial Economics..." And I think the teacher introduced himself as Mr Oak. The class continued as per normal. After class, Mr Oak requested me to help him out with something. I immediately texted Chloe telling her not to wait for me because I probably wouldn't be heading home so soon. "You are going to help me to clean up the school's storage room." Just when the clock ticked 5 p.m. on the dot, Mr Oak immediately pulled me to the storage room. I had requested to put my bag in my locker before I headed to the storage room. "Arrange the books on to the shelf. Remember to arrange it in alphabetical order." Mr Oak pointed to the boxes of books that were placed on the ground. "I will leave the door open. I will come back in 3 hours time to see if you have finished arranging." Mr Oak walked out of the room after completing his sentence. I was wondering why he didn't want to close the door or even lock me inside to prevent me from escaping. I walked to the door and investigated. The door was actually a slide door. If the door was closed, in order to enter or exit, you required the staff ID card and password. The storage room didn't have any air-conditioner and it was dusty. There were only a few small windows at the top of the wall. Should I say that Mr Oak at least has a heart of not wanting me to die of suffocation so he left the door opened? Oh well. Whatever reason that was, I got to start servicing my so-called community work. I started from the first box. When I opened it, dust was flying everywhere causing me to cough multiple times. My arm just recovered not long ago and I was straining my arm to do this. My poor little arm. I let out a sigh. I carried the books and placed them nicely on the shelf. It was not an easy job. Some of the shelves were already filled with books. And Mr Oak insisted I put them in alphabetical order, I just got to squeeze them in. Sometimes, I required a ladder to reach up for the higher shelves. The ladder was kind of unstable. I didn't want to fall down and hurt my arm again. I just got to be extra careful. My sweat was dripping down my face. I could feel my shirt was also soaking with sweat. One box after another. All I did was carrying the books to the shelf, hitting, pushing and squeezing the books into the shelf. I was too engrossed with my work that I didn't realised someone was standing outside the storage room, looking at me. I was holding onto a book, trying to fix it into the highest level shelf. I tiptoed and pushed the book in between two other books. I could feel myself losing strength. I tried a bit harder and that was when my little trembling toes gave way, I wobbled and went falling off the ladder. Oh great. I'm going to lie on my bed for another few days. I closed my eyes and anticipated the pain that I would feel due to the fall. I waited and waited but even after a few minutes, I didn't feel any pain. I opened my eyes a little, peeping through my eyelashes to see the situation I was in. I saw someone looking down at me. I opened my eyes fully and blinked a few times trying to get a full clear image. I stared dumbfounded at that person. How... How... Why is he here? Just as I was trying to figure that out, I heard a clicking sound. The both of us turned our heads to where the door was. The door went sliding and clicked, shutting it closed. OH.MY.GOD. I climbed down that person's arm and ran up to the door. I tried pulling it opened but it was locked tightly. I peered out of the transparent sliding door to see if anyone was passing by. No luck on that. I turned around to see the person who was standing right in front of me. Kayden. I was locked up in the storage room together with KAYDEN SMITH!!!
