ALVAH I repeatedly tapped the pen I held onto the table, lost in a whirlwind of thoughts. Skylar's words and warnings echoed incessantly in my mind, impossible to ignore. Denial gripped me firmly; his claims seemed unbelievable, too heavy to accept. Each word hit like a hammer, weighing down my chest. My gaze shifted to Almond, who was engrossed in sorting, organizing, and recording the files in a neat order. It was hard to fathom that she was my mate, sharing the same obliviousness about the situation. Even though her mate was right in front of her, she couldn't sense it nor could I sense her as my mate.
