Chapter 5

1663 Words
Ronan’s POV It was night when I finally reached my pack. I was beyond exhausted because after I came back home from war, I didn't wait to be examined by the pack doctor or rest even for a moment. I had to go and deliver Alpha Darren’s son to him because it was my priority at the moment and when I went, I didn't expect to pick up another priority. The only thing that was going on in my head on the way back and when I reached was how Amara was alive. It couldn’t be just a lookalike of her, could it be? She had the exact same mannerisms, and she had the exact same scent as Amara. It couldn’t be any other person. I wondered if Alpha Darren had taken her away from me to have her as leverage one day, but he couldn’t have just shown her to me like that if he knew that she was my long-lost lover, could he? So many questions were rummaging through my head but there was no particular answer, so I waited until she came before I started to look for them, after her memories had been restored to her. I headed straight to my room when I was back. On my way, my sister stopped me, “Ronan. I haven't seen you since the warriors came back. I started to get worried.” Freya let out a sigh of relief as she quickened her walk to catch up to me. She was the daughter of my stepmother, the lady I had thought loved me like a child until I found out that they hated me and were conspiring against me. I could have banished her and my children but for the royal family’s sake, I decided to let them stay. I kept my distance from them though but they have been trying to get on my good side since then. “I am alive, Freya. Too bad for you and your mum, huh?” I raised a brow. She gave me a look that suggested she was sorry. I shook my head before I looked away and headed back to my room. I sighed in relief when she didn't follow me. When I reached my room, I opened up the door, and the person I didn't want to see the most was seated on my bed. It was Inez, my concubine that was gifted to me by one of my allies. She has been in love with me since she came to this pack. She was trying to get me to marry her, but I couldn’t. She was just here to give birth to my babies and I tried to explain that to her multiple times, and instead, she cries and says that I don’t care about her. I tried to give her as much as respect because she was going to be the mother of my children one day, but she didn't want that. She wanted more and I didn't know how I was going to give that to her. “Inez.” I said, sighing as I headed into the room. She was dressed in a long black dress, her hair falling on the sides. She looked pretty. “I was wondering why you didn't come to see me when you came back.” She said. “I had to do something important.” I sighed, sitting down on the bed. I just wanted to be alone to rest, and I didn't want to hurt her feelings by asking her to leave. “More important than me?” She raised a brow, before she rolled her eyes. She crawled behind me and started to massage the tight knots in my shoulders. “Does that feel good?” She whispered in my ear, seduction evident her in her tone and mannerisms. “I would like to rest.” I said. "You can rest with me, here, on your bed.” “Inez,” I groaned, standing up to my feet. “Seriously, I want to rest.” She pouted before she rolled her eyes and stood up to her feet, “Fine. I will come by later.” She said before she rolled off my bed and kissed me on the cheek, then sashayed out of my room. I sighed before I lay on my bed, my thoughts darting to the one person I had been thinking of. I needed to get her out of my head and rest, because I needed it. Being in war meant sleepless nights for a whole week and still finding the energy somehow to kill people and fight for your life. I closed my eyes and the sleep started to seep in when a knock came from my door. I groaned before I sat up and mumbled a ‘Come in’. The door creaked open and Kai, my beta, came into the room. He had been at war too but from the looks of it, he had time to rest and regain back his lost energy while I was out in the neighbouring town. “How was it?” He asked, heading to the couch in the middle of my room and plopping down. “He didn't look very sad about the death of his son. It is obvious he prefers the ones we took captive.” I said, referring to one of his two sons that I managed to capture as leverage. I knew even if I had won the war, he would still have hesitated and probably decided to not hand over the land but with the future alpha of his pack in my possession, he had no option but to do what I wanted. “When is he going to hand over the land?” He asked. “Your father had specific plans for us. He wrote it down and was stored in the capsule so when Alpha Darren finally hands it over, we are going to open it and read it.” He told me. Kai was my father’s beta son and when he passed on, his father retired and gave his son the title. “I wish I could just open it and see what it is all about.” I sighed. “Same, you have no idea.” He shook his head. “There is an addition to the plan,” I told him. I realised that I didn't go through the plan with him and that I always go through my decisions with him before I act on them. “What is it?” He asked. “I saw Amara.” I deadpanned. His eyes widened, and he stared at me like I had lost my mind, “What?” “Amara. She was in Alpha Darren’s pack and apparently, she is posing as his daughter and she can’t remember me.” “Are you sure you weren’t hallucinating?” He raised a brow suspiciously. “Amara has been gone, and possibly dead for ten years. There is no way she would be posing as his daughter there and we wouldn’t have heard about it.” He shrugged. He was partly right because when she was gone, I sent out a huge party to look for her. I sent out professional spies and professionals to comb through the forests and nearby packs to look for her, dead or alive but she was nowhere to be found. It was like she had lost into thin air. Like she had never existed. But I knew what I saw. The lady I have loved for so long, there was no way that I was going to mistake her, “You don’t know what I saw. She has her scent, her face, everything. But you are going to see.” He gave me a look, “What did you do?” “I traded to give him the alpha in line of his pack for her,” I told him. “Why?” His jaw dropped. “We have been trying to get the land back for so long and you just trade it off for a lady you thought was Amara?” “You have to believe me. I know what I saw, man. She was the one.” “What would you do if you found out that it wasn’t her?” He asked. “That you were just hallucinating her because you hit your head hard in the war? What would you do then, after you just gave him the biggest leverage we have had in so long, that is going to give us something that your father had fought for when he was alive and had left for you to fight for?” Now that he spoke, I realised that maybe I had acted foolishly. What was I going to do when it wasn’t her? I was going to hate myself for getting married to a person that wasn’t Amara. But there was a 50/50 percent chance of it and if she was Amara, then my life would be complete. The hole dug in my heart, that had been eating up because of her absence was going to be full and when I looked at myself in the mirror, I was going to recognize who I was for the first time in ten years. “I guess we will just have to see when she comes.” He sighed dejectedly before throwing his hands into the air, “Fine. You are the alpha. I hope it is her.” “Me too.” “Good night, Ronan.” He bowed a little before he headed out of my room. I nodded, hoping silently in my mind that I had an actual good night before I lay on the bed and closed my eyes. The sweet memories I created with her came flooding to mind, and I felt my lips lift into a smile as I drifted to sleep.
