Chapter 3

Ronan’s POV The war was successful. At first, when we were going to leave for the battleground, I was skeptical about what was going to happen. I didn't think we were going to win because the soldiers at Alpha Darren’s pack were far more trained than ours. We hadn’t even known that the war was going to happen until two months ago, which gave us very limited time in training and trying to gather the best warriors that we knew were strong and wouldn’t go down as fast. I carefully selected the warriors, making them combat with me first before they were to go to the field. It was then I realised that we were going to be victorious no matter what. We were just half of them in terms of population, but I had faith in them. Since they weren’t many, I decided to tag along. I had been taught exclusively by the best warriors back when my father was alive, so I was perfect when it came to fighting on the battlefield. It lasted for an entire week and when it ended, we had only ten of our warriors dead and a lot more injured. I led us back to the pack with a few of the warriors from the Shadow pack that I wanted to keep as leverage. We had settled that whoever that won was going to have the land that he had confiscated from my father many years ago. Before my father died, he told me that I had to get back the land no matter what. I didn't know what it was for. All I knew was that it belonged to us, and we had to get back. It has been the cause of the rivalry between my pack and the Shadow pack for so long. Now, I was going to visit him and give him the respect of handing over the body of my dead son that I killed. I didn't know it was him. I just knew that the boy was trying too hard to kill me and when it got too annoying, I cut off his head from the rest of his body. His body was dismembered but I got an embalmer to put it back in place before I embarked on the journey. It took about six hours to reach the pack and when I arrived, I wasn’t greeted with the most hospitality. I headed to the alpha's house and there, I waited for him for a few minutes before he decided to come out of the house and join me in the pack court. “Alpha Darren,” I greeted him, playing a little smirk of glee on my lips. The last time we met, he was so confident that he was going to come out victorious. He shouldn’t even have initiated the war in the first place. All of this was his own damn fault. “Good to see you again,” I added. He looked crossed as he marched down to his throne and sat down, then turned his gaze to me. If looks could kill, I would be below the trench where I buried the bodies of his army. “Alpha Ronan. I see your confidence has paid off.” He spoke up. My lips lifted in a condescending smirk as I adjusted my sitting position, “I told you, I am going to win. Losing is never an option for me.” I could see the restraint he was giving himself. He knew if he tried to do anything, the sword in my hand would slice right through his neck. “I didn't know you had the plans of killing my son.” He said. “I didn't. If I knew he was your son, I would have taken it easy on him but the little boy was trying too hard to kill me. I would rather stab myself in the chest than let my death be in the hands of a young man such as your son.” He scoffed and shook his head. He didn't speak again as we waited for the people who were going to join us to come. As per tradition, the eldest child of the family was supposed to accept the body from me. Since two of his sons were with me as hostages, I wasn’t expecting to see someone who was an adult. He was known to have a lot of children these days, and they were young. After a moment, the door to the pack court opened, and his wife and another lady strode into the court. When I saw the face of the woman beside his wife, I felt my heart skip. That was a face I never thought I was going to see again- the face of the love of my life. From the mannerisms to the look in her eyes and her scent, I knew that it was her. She went lost a few years ago after an attack on my pack. I had looked for her for the past ten years, so how was she here, sitting in front of me and posing as the daughter of Alpha Darren? We spoke for a while and I expected to see a look in Amara’s eyes that meant that she recognized me, but there was none. It was like she was a whole different person. My heart ached, because I thought she had died. She was the only one keeping me in check so when I thought she was gone forever, I fell off the wagon completely. I wondered what happened to her. Did Alpha Darren take her, because he knew she was the love of my life, and altered her memory just to use it against me? I wouldn’t be surprised if he did so. I told Alpha Darren that I was going to release his sons after he had given me my land, but immediately I decided to change the terms of the deal. I was going home with Amara so she could explain to me why the hell she disappeared from my life right when she knew I was going to propose to her and get married to her. I knew that Alpha Darren hated me and even if she was not his daughter, he was not going to allow her to come with me so I leveraged the future of his pack in exchange for Amara coming with me, as a bride so he wouldn’t ever think of getting her back. “No,” he said, almost immediately when I told him about my proposal. “You took the life of my son and you are holding back two of my other sons. I am not going to allow you to take my daughter with you.” He added. I let out a scoff and shook my head. I was sure that he was saying this so he wouldn’t give her up immediately and look like the bad person, because I knew him. He wasn’t going to give up the next alpha in line of his pack for someone that wasn’t even his real daughter. “You are going to give up the future of your pack because you don’t want to get her married to me?” I asked him. There was a fake dejected look on his face as he turned to face his wife and Amara, and then he let out a shaky breath, “Fine. Give me back the corpse of my son and we will finalize this.” He said. “What?” Amara’s jaw slacked. He definitely did something to her, probably to erase her memory of me when we were together. “You are doing it for the future of this pack, Alana.” His face softened. He even changed her damn name. “You cannot marry me off to the man that killed Silas. His guards killed my best friend and my brother, how could you?” There was pain and disbelief in her tone. She might think that she couldn’t recover from this, but I knew how I was going to try and get her memories back. I had the best witches in the world in my pack. I would do anything to get back the woman I loved. She turned to face her mother and from the look on her face, she was agreeing with her father to get her married off to me. I wished I could bring back all of her memories of the life we spent together all those years ago at the moment so it could at least soften up her heart. “Unbelievable,” she spat as she stood up from her seat. “I don’t know why I am shocked that the both of you are doing something like this to me. It was always evident that you preferred your sons to me.” She added before she stomped off the pack court and headed back into the palace, leaving only the three of us. “Why do you want to marry her?” Her mother asked me. “Because I am in love with her,” I said. I watched them exchange confused looks before I stood up to my feet. “I am going back to my pack. When the marriage is finalised, I would be expecting my wife to be delivered to me and your son, the eldest one, will be brought back to you.” I stood up to my feet. “Goodbye.” I finally said before I left. I needed to get things in order before she arrived. I would hate for her to be back and find things differently from the way she left them when her memory is restored.
