Back to work

Raj He reeled in his thoughts and instead concentrated on his work. He made a few calls to the hospital making sure everything was on track and checked the time. He would need to leave in half an hour to be at the hospital on time. He would need some time in hand to review the case, wash and get ready for the Operation Theatre (OT). Once his calls were done, he revisited his thoughts since the time he had seen Mia. She hadn’t appeared so distant today and he was still confused about this uncontrollable desire that he was feeling for her. He did not want to mess things up by acting too quickly on his feelings. Mia came across as a very guarded girl. Mia soon walked into the kitchen looking fresh and smelling delectable in her black kurti, cream leggings and her signature perfume. The kurti fit her like a glove and was very distracting as his roving eye took in the details of her shapely form. She smiled at him. “Are you ready to leave?” The vixen knew what she was doing to him! “Almost! Do you want to grab a bite?” he asked. Two could play the game! “I will only have some dry fruits. Not a big fan of bread. What would you like?” she replied, this time completely changing the tone of their communication. The question brought a lot of interesting thoughts to his mind but he settled for “bread and some omelette please! I won’t get time to eat later. Will need to drive directly to the hospital,” he responded still thinking of what he would like her to do. Her luscious lips around a certain part of his body would be really nice, but he had better sense to not voice that. Mia nodded and efficiently put together the brekkie within a few minutes. They ate in an easy silence. Raj invariably aware of Mia and Mia lost in own her thoughts. Mia How can someone look so enticing with an overnight stubble? She had directly walked into the kitchen, some time back, knowing that the entire gang would be there. Raj was sitting at the dining table with his coffee mug grumpily staring into his coffee. It was funny and endearing at the same time. She had never felt this kind of raw attraction towards anyone, including her ex! The memory of her ex was traumatic, and she suddenly felt the familiar pain in her chest. She had gotten over the past, but it had scarred her. God knows when she would be completely free from it. She got ready and joined him for breakfast, knowing that he had to leave. Their teasing was fun and she wouldn’t mind staying in touch. He was enjoying his brekkie silently, while she wondered why his presence made her feel so content. She had known him for less than 24 hours. He seemed to blend in effortlessly, and still managed to stand out. Her phone alarm rang indicating that it was time for her to leave for her own work. She got up and put on her apron, the white lab coat with her stethoscope around her neck. They left the flat together. She saw him leave in his car, waving bye to her and she wondered if she should have given her number. *** A third person somewhere in the vicinity of Pune, a metropolitan city in Western India. (Unknown) All women are bitches. He is going to teach this one a lesson. All these days she had been flirting with him and when he proposed, she rejected him. He is going to give the wh*re what she deserves. Doesn’t she look beautiful? Sprawled on her own bed not knowing what was going to happen! He had spent years researching the combination of drugs he had given her. He would satisfy his urge for a release and then see her slowly die. The thought gave him goosebumps of happiness. Bitches don’t deserve to live anyways. The suicide note was ready. It's going to be one fun night. He wriggled his hands in excitement as the organ between his legs stirred. *** The next day's headlines in the leading newspapers of Pune was a suicide of a young girl, 20 years of age. A suicide note was found saying how she had given up on life. The body was found in a pool of blood in her bed with slit wrists. The media had gone crazy debating and discussing the pressures of life on young people. The body had been sent for a post- mortem. It appeared to be an open and shut case. After a month, the case was shut down as a suicide case. *** Raj Mia sat eating the almonds quietly, with a frown on her forehead. She was clearly thinking about something, but he did not want to interrupt. In fact, he himself was trying to deal with his feelings, which were frightening. He never believed in love at first sight, for that matter never believed in love at all. Love was an overrated feeling brought about because of chemical changes in the brain and when the brain re- organised the chemicals, the love would be gone anyways. For now, it was better to give her some space. Thankfully, she put an apron over that sexy dress of hers, hiding her mouthwatering curves. Although he was happy to give her space, he did not want others drooling over her. They walked to his car quietly all the time aware of the chemistry between them. He got into the car, revved up the engine, waved goodbye, and left. In the rearview mirror, he saw her walking to the hospital with her white apron and a stethoscope around her neck. She was beautiful! He reached just in time, prepped and got into the OT. It was a regular C- section, and the patient delivered twins. It was very satisfying to see the happy family. After the surgery, he went up to the cafeteria to eat something. He met Dr Joshi, the pathologist and the Forensic Medicine expert. They got chatting about their work and life in general, sharing interesting cases that they have been handling. They had some fruitful discussions about newer cases appearing for autopsy. Some discussions about new breakthroughs in diagnosing diseases in fetuses. It was always fun to catch up with colleagues. They finished their lunch and headed back to their work, Raj's mind still reflecting on the girl with curly hair and juicy lips. ***
