THREE: "Ethanians."
THIS is an academy and she’s… she’s a new scholar!
“What? What are you talking about?”
The woman walked straight to its table and sat down on the chair. Chanelle and Sage looked at her. When she was settled, her eyes narrowed straight to still puzzled Chanelle.
“Excuse me, but I can’t seem to get what you just said. I never thought this is an academy. This place actually looks like more of a haunted abandoned mental hospital lived by problematic and mentally unstable teenagers than a learning academy,” she continued speaking frankly what’s on her head.
She then heard the man beside her chuckled. Chanelle gazed at Sage for a short period of time and then she just shook as she looked away and returned her eyes to the middle-aged woman.
The said woman didn’t mind her frankness, didn’t even take her words to the bones. She simply remained still as she tilted her head. “Well, believe it or not, no matter how this place looks horrible and old full of almost abandoned-looking buildings, this is an academy where students go to learn.”
“What will the students learn in here, anyway? Greek mythologies? Gods and Goddesses? Boring legendary stories?” Chanelle couldn’t help but be a bit sarcastic.
Never in her mind really had that she thought of this sinister place a school!
“You will know once you start to attend your scheduled classes.”
Chanelle sighed and instead of arguing, she remembered she wasn’t here to argue or anything. She needs to go out of this place and go back to her home!
“I’m sorry, Madam, but-“
“Miss. Address me ‘Miss.’ I prefer that way than being called ‘madam.’ I am often addressed by the students here as Miss Madieline.”
She shrugged Madam’s introduction off, like whatever. “Okay, Miss Madieline. Let me tell you, I don’t know how I become a scholar here, and I don’t even know what this place is. Actually, the story was I was only sleeping inside my room at my home while waiting for my dad to get back from his work and waiting for my mom to finish the dishes for our dinner. But when I opened my eyes, I just saw myself trapped in an unfamiliar academy where my feet stand right now and I couldn’t seem to find the way out. Can you help me go back home?”
Like the others or the first ones she encountered, Madieline seemed to be not for help at all. For the latter only remained silent as she threw her question.
“Look, I’m living at the busy streets of New York City, currently an ordinary student attending first year in University taking up Arts as my major course. There is nothing special about me and I didn’t remember any exam I qualified to suddenly change the school I want to attend to. I don’t also have plans on transferring so please, just help me go back.”
Madieline’s face softened after watching and listening to her. “Dear, it’s not that easy.”
Chanelle’s brows raised. “Not that easy? Why? You just have to tell me the directions for the way out and that’s it.”
“You don’t understand a thing, pitiful missy,” Sage mocked her.
She only looked at him for few seconds but didn’t mind him at all. That’s just all that he can do to her, mock her and toy her, but surely, he will not help her around to go back.
Madieline stood and gradually walked to her. She stopped right in front of Chanelle with a pity on the aura of her face for her cluelessness.
“You need to stop thinking about your life in New York City from now on and start embracing your fate here in the faraway land of England as the new scholar of Ethans Academy-“
“England? This is a faraway land of England?!” She was so shocked to hear about the country she’s currently in! How come that she only slept for a nap in New York City and woke up finding herself lost in the faraway land of England!
This is so impossible! Chanelle couldn’t believe it! She couldn’t remember she ever had a flight from New York to England, but suddenly she’s here in this place just right after going to bed!
“ This is your fate, Chanelle dear, and you are destined to be here at the Ethans. You are now considered as one of the Ethanians.”
Ethanian? Crazy!
Never even in her wildest dreams she thought of attending an academy like this one!
“Chanelle, believe me,” Madieline sincerely tapped her shoulder. “You’re not here for no purpose. You are not chosen for nothing. You have a mission in here and you need to strive them yourself.”
Chanelle’s eyes went down to madam’s hand that’s on her shoulder. Now, she couldn’t speak anything any longer ‘cause she doesn’t exactly know what to say next. Everything’s still not yet syncing on her mind. There are still so many questions inside her that need to be answered.
The middle-aged woman smiled at her like a mother as she turned to look at the man beside Chanelle. Sage. “She’s new here and you don’t have to scare her, Sage. Now, kindly bring her to her dorm’s room where she will be staying while studying here at Ethans, so that she could take a rest first too.”
“Don’t worry, Miss Madieline, I am not going to eat alive our new scholar,” Sage responded playfully while grinning his lip on Chanelle.
He then looked at her as he tilted his head and started to walk to show her the direction way to her dorm’s room. When Chanelle wasn’t moving, he looked at her again. “Let’s go.”
And so that was it, she hadn’t any choice but to follow him. She started walking, following Sage’s manly back. He even put his hands inside his jean’s pocket and that made him look manlier.
“You afraid?” he asked out of the blue while they are walking at the hall.
“Of what? Of you? No,” she simply answered and didn’t look at him.
She only heard him sexily chuckle but she didn’t mind.
He stopped for a while to look at her so she stopped walking too. His eyes are intently directing towards her, as if challenging her of something. “Really?”
She fought his stares back. This time it’s true, she isn’t afraid of him any longer. “Yes. Why? Do I have to be afraid of you? For what reason? Are you going to prey me or what?” Now, she challenged him back by throwing him a little sarcastic question.
He responded with a smirk before he turned his back and continued walking. Chanelle shook her head as she continued following his way…
