Ascending: The Demon Alpha

*Lilith*                A few years had passed since Adrian and I were crowned Queen and King, the years have been mostly peaceful except for the occasional fights where we’ve had to put a few supernaturals in their place and keep them from disrupting everything our friends and we have worked so hard for. Derek and Ciara’s eighteenth birthday was coming up soon, it was tradition to name Derek the new Alpha since he was coming of age, and he was the oldest out of our three children. A few years after Derek and Ciara were born we had another baby boy equally as strong as the twins were, we named him Leon.                “Adrian, you need to talk with Derek about who is going to take the new Beta position” I said to Adrian walking into his office. He looked up from his desk and sighed out loud “I would rather much like it to be you who has that talk with him” “you are the Alpha, you should explain it to him, one day he might come into a position where he would have to do the same” I argued back with him. “This is not going to be an easy talk with him” he sighed and leaned back in his chair “I know, but it needs to happen soon their eighteenth birthdays are coming up really soon and with it their new positions in the pack.”                I walked out of his office and headed to find my best friend Cathy, I found her on the training grounds with Darrion and their two daughters, ever since they were little he had been training them to know everything the Beta was supposed to do for the pack. “Hey” I said as I walked up “hey Lilith” she smiled at me and waved “training looks like it’s going good” “hell yeah it is, my daughters are going to be strong Beta females” Darrion said with so much pride.                He was right of course, he had been training them from such a young age, even though they hadn’t received their wolves yet, they were stronger than those who were already of age. Both girls giggled and high fived each other “so what are you doing up so early?” Cathy asked me “oh, I was just having a talk with Adrian” I responded “oh” they all said together and hung their heads a little bit. I didn’t say exactly what the conversation was about but judging from their faces they already knew.                Vanessa, Cathy’s, and Darrion’s oldest daughter was just a couple months younger than the twins, by birth right it would be her place to take over as the pack’s Beta, but since she is a female we run the risk of her finding her mate outside of the pack and eventually Derek would have to find another to take her place. Same thing with Ciara, she would leave with her mate to his pack whenever she finds him, if he wasn’t from ours. And that was the conversation that Adrian needed to have with Derek. *Derek*                I was woken up by an omega, my father had requested for me to meet him in his office, since I hadn’t received my wolf yet, I didn’t have access to the pack link, he could always use his powers and create a link between us, but he only did that when it was an emergency. The only one I could link at the moment was Ciara and Leon, though I didn’t understand why I couldn’t do it with my parents also. It always worked to our advantage though when we were up to something, and I loved it.                I knocked on his office and walked in “you called me dad?” I asked as I took a seat in one of the chairs facing his desk, soon to be mine. “Yes, I need to have a serious talk with you before I hand over the title of Alpha over to you” he said with a serious tone, his face expressionless. It had me wondering what he would have to talk to me that had him looking like this. “of course” I answered and made myself comfortable in the chair, I had a feeling that it might be a long talk.                “As you already know positions in the pack get handed down to our children, I will be handing you the position of Alpha, Jack will eventually give his son Noah the position of Gamma when he comes of age next year. As for the Beta position…” he paused for a moment and I was worried with the next words that were going to come out of his mouth, somehow I already knew what this conversation was going to be about.                “You will need to choose your Beta; Vanessa cannot take the position when her birthday comes in a few months.” “Dad you can’t make me do this, it’s her birth right to take Darrion’s position as Beta, she is the first born, she should be my Beta no one else, have you seen her training? She doesn’t even have her wolf yet and she’s stronger than any other she-wolf around here.” My father sighed and leaned back in his chair “I know son, but that’s not why I’m asking you to choose another, she would make a terrific Beta” “then what’s the problem?” I asked still not understanding where he was getting at.                “Vanessa is a ranking wolf, therefore her mate will most likely be someone of rank as well, if her fated mate is an Alpha then she will have to leave for his pack and become the Luna of his pack, same thing if her mate is a Beta. If you have her take the position here and she’s not mated to any of our wolves then she will leave, and you will have to choose another Beta anyways.” There was irritation to his voice as he was trying to get me to understand, I finally sighed in defeat, this was an argument that I was not going to win, and he had a point. The possibilities of her being mated to someone of lower rank were slim to none, especially because of how strong she was, her wolf was going to be even stronger whenever she emerged “I’ll talk to her.”
