Kai’s POV
Lillith had been completely out of line storming out of the pack house, a pack house she had zero connection to, and insulting me and my mate. I knew she would bring it to the other council members and I could only assume it would be split down the middle who cared and who didn’t that my mate was in fact a werewolf. And a damn powerful one at that.
“Mr. DeVerou, I am Destiny’s alpha, Alpha Leo. This is my mate and Luna, Kiara,” a tall bulky man said, snapping me out of my own thoughts. He’s got dark, wavy hair that falls just above his shoulders and tan skin - dark brown eyes, near black almost. I realize I’m being rude as I size him up - his hand is literally held out for a handshake. I grip his hand firmly and maintain eye contact, just like my father taught me. It was a sign of respect and strength if you had a firm grip.
“Call me Kai. Nice to meet you, both of you,” I say as I nod at Luna Kiara.
“Congratulations to you two for finally finding each other. Desi deserves it more than anyone,” Luna Kiara says. I catch the nickname “Desi” and I instantly love it. They must be close to use nicknames with each other. She hands Destiny a pair of sweats and a t-shirt, which she throws on quickly - not bothered by all the watching eyes. Nakedness was no big deal go werewolves. I had started getting more comfortable with it being best friends with werewolves, but I was grateful for my beautiful mate to be covered up now.
“Thanks, Ki,” Destiny says. My eyes naturally swing her way and I see the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen in my life. My knees about buckle, but I catch myself before making a complete and utter fool of myself.
“So what is the plan here? Destiny, will you be leaving us now or traveling back with us?” Alpha Leo asks and I instantly know Destiny is going to freak out at the question. Hell, it made me feel rushed and I’m sure it had her panicking already. Don’t get me wrong, I would love her to move to my coven now, but she had a life as a pack oracle. I knew she would have to say her goodbyes and tie up any lose ends with her pack. As far as I was concerned, I didn’t mind if she never bit me officially, just as long as I had her by my side always. I never wanted to be separated from this woman going forward. My hand found it’s way to the small of her back and I gently ran a finger down her spine, soothing her immediately.
“We haven’t really spoken about that, actually,” Destiny gave a sheepish smile and continued, “Can we have a minute to ourselves?”
“Of course, Desi. No rush. We let Wren know we would be another day. He’s got everything under control,” Luna Kiara said as she grabbed her mate and turned to go back inside. Destiny stiffened a little and I was curious what that was about. I wouldn’t push on it though. She had her life and I had mine prior to meeting each other.
Reese, Eli and Hunter had been extremely quiet the entire exchange, but I knew Reese was just itching to jump me and celebrate finding my mate. I glanced up at her in the steps and her eyes danced with amusement. She was SO going to jump me the second she got a chance. Eli and Hunter dragged her back into the pack house and their betas followed close behind, but not before Dax turned around and yelled “I’m still getting that reading, Des!” - I chuckled - just like him to already give her a nickname.
Once we were alone, I led her to the steps and pulled her down so she was sitting between my legs. She was still a little tense over something, so I did what any good mate would do and began massaging her shoulders. She instantly relaxed into my touch. I wonder - did she feel the sparks as strongly as I did?
“Tell me what’s got you so twisted up,” I said while I continued rubbing out the knots in her shoulders.
“I..” she hesitated at first, but eventually continued, “I guess I’m just not sure where we go from here. I can’t just abandon my pack. I have pack members that need my help, that rely on me. But Artemis is not okay being away from you and I..I don’t think I am either.”
“Then let’s go together,” I said the obvious solution.
“Kai, our pack is a long ways away. I can’t ask you to leave your coven. And that woman, Lillith.. now isn’t a good time for you to be away. You have to know that.”
“Fine, then I’ll create a portal from my coven estate to your pack lands. We can travel through portal wherever we need to go.” I would do anything for this woman and I was more than willing to show her just how far I’d jump to be with her.
“You can just..create a portal? To a place you’ve never been?” She asked and it was a very good question - one not many people knew about me.
“I can’t create a portal unless I’ve been there, unless you help me. With you by my side, opening your mind to me and sharing that place, I can most definitely do it.”
Destiny turned around and stared at me for a second before speaking. “You won’t..read the thoughts I don’t want you to, right? There’s a lot going on up here,” she said and physically knocked on her temple, “I’m an oracle after all. And Artemis has thoughts about everything. Believe me..absolutely every-f*****g-thing.” She widened her eyes at that last bit and I couldn’t help laughing. She was too cute. And she was all mine. I would thank whatever gods or goddesses that planned us as mates until the end of time.
“Of course not, my beautiful mate,” I told her as I smiled down on her, brushing a stray black curl that had fallen across her forehead, “We can get to work on the portal this afternoon. I should be able to have it ready by tomorrow evening.”
Destiny, still turned around and staring at me, broke into a smile as she launched herself into my arms. Whatever had changed in her head between the ball and this morning after waking up, I was grateful for. I had waited my entire life for this woman and I would never go another day without her by my side.
“Then let’s get some breakfast and Luna Reese can hound you about us,” she laughed as she stood up, dragging me with her.
“How’d you know?”
“Are you kidding? She was eyeing you like she was ready to pounce on you!” She said and let out that beautiful laugh of hers. Whether I was ready or not, we walked inside and what do you know? Reese was standing just inside the door and pounce she did.
