Chapter 8 – Departure
Jerry strode across the concrete landing pad towards the ship. It felt good to be back in uniform. It was like he had a purpose once again. He wore a large canvas backpack containing his clothes, toiletry kit, and a few other things. His sword and rifle were already aboard, stowed away in the weapons lockers.
He glanced around, taking in what would be his last look at Homestead for at least several days. It was a sunny summer morning, humid, and it would undoubtedly soon be hot.
