The next morning, Jerry had just finished packing when the announcement blared over the loudspeakers.
“Exiting cross-space in thirty seconds. All hands prepare for jump.”
Jerry sat on his bed and took hold of its frame. A few seconds later, there was a squeezing sensation, and then the ship was back in real space.
“Jump complete.”
He stood and finished gathering his things. Finally, he buckled his energy vest on over his utilities and slung his bag over his shoulder. He turned towards the door and flinched. “Breeder's name!”
