~Chapter 4~

718 Words
Ruth surveys the young man that approaches them slowly. He is a werewolf. Though a werewolf with no rank, he sure has made it in the world outside of packs. There's no doubt that he is the master of the house, and from the few words she has heard him say, he has a very hot temperament. His dark eyes survey her, drinking in the sight of her like a hungry animal. She does not like the look in his eyes. "Go outside now!" Blood drains from Ruth's face, her palms beginning to sweat. She is getting kicked out back to the streets. She lowers her head and begins to walk away. "I wasn't talking to you," the man addresses her. "Brian, outside. Next time it will be worse punishment for you. You don't disrespect me like that." Brian nods. After giving a reassuring glance at Ruth, he rushes outside to spend the night on his knees. That worries Ruth, but she assures herself that surely Brian is not dumb enough to actually kneel all night. After all, his boss will be asleep in the comfort of his room and won't be there to watch him. Now that Brian has left, she feels vulnerable. She forces herself to look into the man's dark eyes, noticing from her peripheral vision that even the house keeper has retreated from the scene quietly. "Start talking." She hears Adam's voice. She shrugs, her eyes moving away from his face and a frown settling on her face. "I don't know what I am supposed to talk about." "Explain to me how you have found yourself here!" he says, a touch of annoyance in his voice. "Oh. Well, I came here for school, having applied online at the international university in this city. I was unfortunate enough to get robbed on my way to the university. That's when Mr Brian, who I'd previously met on the plane, came along and offered to come with me to his house." "He doesn't own a house," Adam responds. "This is my house." Ruth swallows nervously. Brian is just someone's lowly servant, no wonder he was reluctant to share information about his career when she asked him back in the plane. "Are you... are you going to throw me out? I've nowhere else to go..." "Tell me more about the robbery," he interrupts her curtly. It is a really nervous business being in this man's company, let alone talking to him. He has this singular talent for making people uncomfortable. "I was robbed by the taxi driver that I booked to take me to the university. He was..." "Wait, you were robbed by a taxi driver? I have never heard of something like that happening before." "But it has happened. I am not making the story up." He studies her for a moment. Looking back at him, she admits he is quite a good looking man, but she doesn't like his attitude. "I wasn't implying that you are making the story up. It is just a bit strange, and shady." She shrugs. "What are you planning to do now? do you want to go back home?" She glances at his face, surprised. Is he starting to be nicer to her? perhaps he has felt pity for what has happened to her. She does not hesitate to shake her head. "No. I don't want to go back home." He frowns, his gaze turning speculative. "why? have you tried to call your family, at least?" "Can we not talk about that, please? I have no family to go back to," she lies. He gets more curious about her, but he decides to let it pass for the time being. He will later dig into her past and find out more about her. "If you like, I can help you." Ruth feels her heart beat hopefully. He would help her? that would be nice of him, but it would also mean she would be indepted to him. How would she pay him back? Sensing her reluctance-and the reason for it- he makes himself more clear. "You will be going to school as you planned, but you will be helping Mr Nik whenever you are at home to earn the money." He then turns around and goes back to his room .
