Kayne Pov
This is not me.
I don’t think there was ever a time where I acted like a fumbling boy who was scared of a female reply. I didn’t care for females.
I didn’t care for this one that way but I do know when I am wrong and I was wrong yesterday.
Sometimes I try to own up to my actions.
My wolf would not allow me to stay away from Yura. And she would definitely not allow us to remain friends without me owning up to my actions.
Since I have woken up only to see the world has changed, I have been bent and twisted to fit into where I wanted to. I have been given opinions and choices to choose from, none of which, I was comfortable with.
If I wanted to be the wolf god then I needed to be chosen by my wolves as their god. It was never their choice.
If I wanted to remain in this world, I have to act like one of them and not rouse suspicion.
If I wanted to be close to Yura, I would have to face a prickly attitude and apologize when I hurt her sensibilities.
My conscience even feel bad for thinking that.
“My father don’t like you.” Hazel said as she leaned into my space.
“Can you please give me a little distance?” I gritted out at the girl who has been chattering non-stop since I sat at the table.
The fact that Yura didn’t cook this morning was more glaring to me, I don’t think that I will be able to eat Hazel’s food. I have been tuning out her words but I can no longer do that. Especially when she mentioned Yura’s father.
The one person who has the ability to drive me away from the object of my wolf’s obsession.
And yes, my wolf was obsessed with her. Something I learned yesterday when he started pressing on my will to change and go and guard her from outside her home.
That was also a fact that I was not ready to deal with now.
“And that proves my theory right.” Hazel smiled as she sat upright in her seat instead of leaning over to mine.
“What theory?” I narrowed my eyes at the girl beside me.
“My theory that Yura is special to you and your wolf. Probably the only one that is special to your wolf.” Hazel continued.
“What…” I started but she continues like I didn’t speak. Or wasn’t trying to.
“What do I know?” She shrugged, then she started to butter a piece of toast, bypassing the food that she cooked. “Perfectly nothing, just the fact that you are don’t like it when others come close to you, including your uncle but you allow Yura to enter your space. In fact, you are the one who invades her space.” She gestured around the room like it was an example.
“What are you trying to get at?” I demanded. I was okay with her asking and replying her questions herself until she said those words.
“Nothing.” She shook her head, her eyes filled with innocence but I have seen innocent looking people commit the worse of atrocities.
I didn’t want to deal with her brand of crazy now. She definitely have to be crazy to act like she didn’t just made an observation which she had no way of knowing unless.
“You had me under surveillance?” I stated once the thought came to my head.
Of course, her father was the one who showed me signs of protectiveness, why did I not think that it would extend to his daughter too.
“Spied on you, different things. Surveillance is too strong of a word.” She waved my anger away. “That is not what is important now. Tell me Kayne, have you found your mate?”
I stared at her dumbfounded.
What the f**k is up with this girl!

Hearing my sister ask him if he had found his mate made me bristle in anger. She had no right to ask that of him.
Still I remained on the stairs to hear his answer.
Did he know that I was his mate and was trying to know me naturally then to come out and show it? Was he testing me?
I paused on the stairs.
“That is none of your business.” He said each word clearly like he was trying to tell my sister that she had gone beyond her boundary.
My sister ignored his words in her usual manner. She felt like everyone was like her. They didn’t have boundaries too.
“Maybe but did you know that most wolves find their mates from the age of 16 to 21. And did you also know that with the rate of globalization and personality differences and different backgrounds, fifteen percent of wolves don’t recognize their mate at first sight and smell anymore. They don’t even recognize on second sight instead.”
“And why this class which I didn’t pay for?” Kayne signed.
“They.” My sister voice went harder. “Just feel the need to get close to their mate and thinks that, that is all there is to the connection.”
Kayne gave a pause.
“Tell me Kayne. Why did you choose to be friends with my sister again?” Hazel bubbly tone had disappeared, she was showing the core of iron which she usually deceive people and wolves alike that she didn’t have.
Something which my father did most of the time too.
“Certainly not to be interrogated by you about something that is not your business. If I do choose to be friends or more with your sister, then that is between the two of us not the two of us and you.” Kayne answered.
When the air changed, a low growl coming from my sister, I knew I better stop them from fighting it out.
My sister might be female but I wasn’t sure who would win if they did end up fighting.
“Hazel, cut it out.” I bite out at my sister as I came down from the stairs fully. “Can I not leave him alone with anybody in this house?”
“Yura, maybe you should give us five more minutes.” Hazel was still glaring at Kayne who looked unconcerned that a close to shifting wolf was about to attack him.
“So you could attack my friend? I mean it Hazel, put a muzzle to it.” I growled at my sister.
“You want her to attack me?” Kayne asked in disbelief.
“No.” I replied. He still looked confused and that was when I remembered that he was not from this continent, English might not even be his original language.
“Put a muzzle on it means that she could contain it. Put a cover on it.” I explained. He nodded his head uncertainly as he stood up and pass by her side with no concern of his safety from her.
“And for your information Hazel, not that it is any of your business but my mate died when I was younger. So there is no way which your sister can be my mate.”
With that disturbing information drop, he walked away from my house.
Leaving me reeling.
How can he have had a mate that was not me?
