CHAPTER 24
Lisa and Trace watch with emotion as the hospital staff gathers in the hallway outside Katherine’s room. Today she goes home, and they’ve come to wish her well. The nurses and aides hold balloons and flowers and shower her with love while an orderly pushes the wheelchair into the elevator. Katherine blows kisses in return and thanks everyone.
Radiant in a new flowered dress that Lisa bought for her, Katherine smiles and gazes up at her daughter as they approach the exit. Lisa washed and styled her mom’s hair and put a dab of color on her lips.
“Thank you for everything, dear. I feel like a queen today.”
Trace and Lisa accompany their mother to the waiting car and, much like walking down a nuptial aisle, they beam in anticipation of the life that awaits.
