1088 Words
I   As Dr. Gregory waits for the coming of the Head of Guards, he is praying that this person would give him the chance to cure the Princess. The guard, who seems like a merciful man, came and talked to Dr. Gregory. “Kronos, how will you cure the Princess? You are not a doctor. “ “I am a doctor, just let me see the Princess. Let me help to cure her or do you want her to just die?” Dr. Gregory is determined to get out of the dungeon and to cure the ailing princess. After determining the seriousness of Dr. Gregory, who they believed as Kronos, the Head of Guards decided to tell the right hand man of King Valdimir. An hour later, Dr. Gregory Valdemaro was released from the prison cell and was brought in front of King Valdimir.  King Valdimir threatened Dr. Gregory/Kronos. “Young man Kronos, I will allow you to see and check my daughter; bear in mind however that should you not cure my Princess Adrijana and she dies, you will be hanged to death. However, if you happen to cure Princess Adrijana, she will marry you. Aside from that I will make a truce to your King Father Varbango of Barbador. Now tell me Kronos, are you still determined to see the ailing princess?” Although still confused on how he became Kronos, the illegitimate son of  King Varbango of Barbador; Dr. Gregory nodded in agreement to the King. “Yes your Highness, I am still determined to see the princess.” He was brought to the Princess’ room together with the Kingdom’s old Physician, Dr. Suarado. Upon checking the Princess’ health state, Dr. Gregory asked the old Physicians of all symptoms that the Princess manifested. Being an infectious disease Specialist, Dr. Gregory has a hint that the princess is either having Malaria or Dengue.  The old Physician replied, “At first I thought the princess is having malaria, as I have seen all the symptoms but when I noticed the rashes that covered some parts of the Princess’ body, I could no longer identify her illness.”  After careful consideration of all the symptoms, it all pointed out to Dengue. “Dr. Suarado, the Princess’ illness, in our place and time, is called Dengue Fever.” Dr. Suarado’s forehead narrowed. “Dengue? Is that a new illness?” “Yes, most probably this is the first time you have this here in Macedonia. Dengue fever is also known as break bone fever. It is a mosquito-borne infection that can lead to a severe flu-like illness. It is caused by four different viruses and spread by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Based on research these viruses are being carried from monkeys to humans and spread by these mosquitoes. There is no specific cure yet for this and if the patient will not be immediately given medical attention, the patient can easily die” Dr. Gregory explained. “I see, you seem like a real doctor indeed, Kronos. What can we do now?” Dr. Suarado’s expression shows that he has been convinced. Dr. Gregory, think deeply. Without all the facilities and anti-bacterial, anti-viruses medicines that can be found in the hospital he worked with in the Philippines, he needs therefore to try all other alternative medicines that he knows as a Doctor to cure the Princess’ disease.  He then instructed the old physician, “Dr. Suarado, kindly order the servants to bring us papaya leaves, young coconut’s juice, apple juice and crushed banana.” The old doctor heeds the instruction of Dr. Gregory.  II Dr. Gregory tried everything to increase the platelet of the ill princess using the juice of crushed papaya leaves and apple juice and kept her hydrated using the young coconut’s juice. The crashed banana helped the princess regain her lost potassium and strength. For the Princess’ fever, he asked the old physician if they have paracetamol, but the old Doctor shook his head, instead gave him herbal medicine, which he said will lower down fever and it is an anti-biotic at the same time.  Dr. Gregory never left the side of the Princess. He was always there to check on her.  Upon three days beside her and consistently taking care of her and as he was watching the Princess, the young Doctor suddenly was caught off guard. The young Princess slowly opened her eyes and stared at him surprised. “Err, Princess Adrijana, how do you feel? Are you okay now?” Dr. Gregory was rattled. Her eyes have been closed for quite some time. Thus, he was so surprised to know that she has those beautiful blue eyes. It was like he was watching the depth of the ocean by merely looking at her eyes. Princess Adrijana smiled, “Kronos, what are you doing here?” “I’m sorry Princess Adrijana; I am Dr. Gregory and not Kronos.” Princess Adrijana’s forehead creased. How come Kronos became Dr. Gregory? Nevertheless, she just smiled and closed her eyes again before murmuring, “I’m fine Dr. Gregory, I just want to sleep a little more.” Dr. Gregory right away checked on the forehead of the Princess. He was happy upon confirmation that her fever is gone. When Dr. Suarado arrived, Dr. Gregory informed him that the Princess had awakened a while ago and that she seems fine already. Dr. Suarado congratulated him and excused himself, saying that he needs to report the good news to King Valdimir. Few more days and the Princess was able to sit and walk. Princess Adrijana quickly recovered until finally, she got well again. As the beautiful princess said, she has her second life. She thanked Dr. Gregory sincerely. Aside from King Valdimir, it was Dr. Gregory, who felt so triumphant. Aside from the fact that he gained his freedom outside the dungeon; he will be marrying the beautiful princess, whose beauty at the onset already captured his eyes and made him fall in love as he stared into her eyes, the first time it opened seeing him beside her. Princess Adrijana on one hand, who is still unaware of the arrangement between her King Father Valdimir and Dr. Gregory, finds the young doctor appealing. She has seen Kronoss before but he never has any effect on her unlike the moment he introduced himself to her as Dr. Gregory.
