She woke up, eyes fluttering open as she took in the sight of a bedroom that was clearly not hers, way too masculine for her taste. Amara felt a heaviness on her chest and glanced down to find that there was an arm resting atop of it. What had happened last night? She bit her lip as it all came flooding back to her, Keith's attempt to rape her and the wolf who had saved her, the one she knew had to be none other than her stepbrothers. He'd come to her rescue when she needed it, had he also put her to bed and slept beside her all night? Her cheeks flushed as she tried to gingerly dislodge his arm, her stepbrother Damien muttering in his sleep as she managed it, quietly managing to crawl out of the bed. She had her duties to attend to and didn't want to be late, creeping across the floor in tiptoes in an effort to keep as quiet as possible.
"Where do you think you're going" a loud, gruff voice growled and she swallowed nervously, her whole body stilling.
"Work" she managed to squeak and heard a low growling from behind her as she forced herself to reluctantly turn and face her stepbrother, sucking in a deep breath as she took all of him in, his chest naked and showing off his toned abdomen and six pack that almost had her drooling despite herself. He looked angry she noticed, but why?
"You no longer work as an omega" he snapped, his hair dishevelled and his eyes flashing with anger as she trembled where she stood "I won't let you. Not after what happened last night" he added and she blushed, staring down at the floor.
"Thankyou for saving me" she whispered thickly, feeling tears come to her eyes.
Damien got out of bed and Amara was thankful to see he was at least wearing pants that hung low beneath his hips as her mouth went dry. God he was gorgeous and she felt this overwhelming desire to touch him, to wrap her legs around his waist and kiss him, scolding herself for such thoughts. This was her stepbrother for goodness sakes. How could she be reacting this way to him.
"I should never have had to. I put you in danger being an omega" Damien exhaled, Amara confused by his words. "You're not going back to that Amara, I won't let you. From now on you stay in this bedroom with me" he said and she bit her lip.
"I can't stay in your room with you, Hell I don't even know you properly Damien" she argued "until last night and this morning I hadn't even met you" she said her ire raising.
Now he looked slightly guilty but she also noticed his eyes were turning black. Was he now in control or was his wolf taking over? Had she angered him that much?
"I kept away from you for a good reason" he spat out and she cringed. What kind of reason would keep someone from their stepsister, especially one who was grieving the loss of her parents?
"You didn't even go to the funeral" she accused him.
"I went" he spat out, "I sat in a car and I watched everything from afar, I saw you Amara and I saw everyone else who attended."
"I didn't see you" Amara whispered stunned. Why hadn't he come out and stood by her side? Why had he just watched from a distance? She was puzzled, why was he so determined to stay away from her back then?
"I did it to make sure you were safe" he growled, sauntering closer as she fought the urge to back away, his eyes black as night as they looked into hers. "Because if I went near you, then I would want to touch you and it wasn't appropriate, not then and not now."
Amara was stunned. What on earth was he on about? Why would he want to touch her? Part of her burned at the thought, heat pooling between her legs and causing her to become aroused, a confusing reaction for her to have. One that made her blush profusely.
"Damien" she whispered and he shuddered, a grin spreading on his face as she frowned.
"Say it again" he ordered "say my name again Amara."
"Damien" she repeated obediently "why would you want to touch me? What makes you stay away from me when I need you most? I needed you Damien, I needed family. Instead you forced me to be an omega in your home. Why" she cried out "what did I do to deserve that kind of treatment from you" she sobbed "why did you leave me all alone when I needed someone to grieve with, someone to help me over the loss of our parents."
Now he looked at her grimly, his jaw clenched as he tried to think of something appropriate to say. Her hurt was clearly visible. He knew he'd hurt her and at the time it had been for her own good, or at least that's what he had told himself. He'd thought he was doing the right thing but now looking at her, he knew he had done it for his own sake and not hers.
"Amara" he said very quietly as he came nearer and she continued to stare wide eyed at him, her expression wild and tortured, her hair swinging about her shoulders in her distress. He took hold of her hand, firmly holding it as she kept it still, not wanting to offend him by yanking it back "I'm sorry, I should have been there for you instead of leaving you to your own devices" he paused and looked off in the distance. "But I'm making up for it now" he growled "you will stay in this room or so help me god I will drag you back up here every night kicking and screaming" he whispered and she burst into tears, pulling her hand away and staring at him.
"Why" she sobbed "why are you being like this?"
He leant closer, his face mere inches from hers "because you are my mate that's why Amara."
