ZAILA
"The death of Senator Hurgo led us to his many dirty activities. The seven unconscious bodyguards at the scene confessed the Senator's crimes. They were forced to work with the Senator for the sake of their family safety. Whoever the woman that assassinated the Senator knew their situation and spared their lives. The rest of the Senator's bodyguards were killed must have been his ally in his crime..." The reporter continues to speak, but our mentor turns off the television and faces us.
"Congratulations, Elites, another successful mission on your list. The government expressed its gratitude for taking him down. And send bonuses to your accounts. Now, take a break, and you all can go back to your normal routine while waiting for the new assignment. It would be best if you had it since I know you have a hard time taking down that slippery fvcker. I'm thrilled that he and his men are dead."
We chuckle at our mentor's reaction. She was adamant that we kill the man when she read his files since his government doesn't want to get their hands dirty. We did the task like we always do.
"Ladies, can I speak to Queen alone? Please," she pleads to them.
My team slightly bowed to our mentor and left the room. Her gaze remains locked with me. I stare, but curiosity arises in my mind.
This time she looks at me with love and longing. She is, after all, my real mom's eldest sister and my birth father's best friend. She saved me when my parents died by sending my adopted parents into my life. My adoptive parents treat me like their own sons, and I become the princess of the family.
My Aunt, Savannah De Castro, is one of Ultor Organisation's top heads. She specializes in human trafficking assignments. She is my mentor and boss here in Ultor.
She came back into my life when I was seven years old. At that time, I already knew I was adopted and who she was in my life. Pop always tells me the story of how my parents saved them from a long life in prison, giving them the identity to start a new life.
My Aunt takes me to Ultor Organisation training with the rest of the young children recruited to train for Ultor, to continue my parents' legacy. I spend ten months every year in camp and two months at home.
After six years of training, they gave me my first mission, where I met the ladies. We have been together since then.
She sighed deeply before opening the drawer on her right side of the table. Take the thick portfolio and slide it to me.
"Open and read it," she instructed.
I frowned, but I followed her instructions. I frowned, even more, when I saw the name of our client. I look up to my Aunt, asking her confirmation if I'm reading right. I read every detail in his files, from simple facts to his little dirty secrets. Damn, this man has plenty.
"Why him? I don't think he needs extra protection, especially from his precious son Aunt Sav, and a woman. We both know how he despised women." I can't help but say it.
"Plus, I'm an Assassin, for fvck sake. I don't do guarding," I added irritatingly.
"Well, you are now. It's time, honey. To let those assholes know, who you are," Aunt Sav reasoned.
"I can find out the truth behind my real parent's death without taking the job, Aunt. You know what we are capable of," I argued. The last thing I want is to stay under one roof with that arrogant man.
She glared at me.
" I know you two have your differences, but you've been requested to protect his son by the higher head of this organization, Zaila. And if you read his files carefully. His company has been the main provider of our weapons and gadgets, since the beginning. The same company that the syndicate wants to take down for their greedy reason."
"The reason your parents died is because whoever the f*****g traitor is still there. So you two better sit aside those quarrels for the sake of his son and justice for your parents and Allana," my aunt said emphatically.
I clenched my jaw to suppress my fury when she mentioned Allana. I shot a sharp look at my Aunt. She knew how much I cared for Allana. I was almost too late to save her.
Allana is one of the victims who captured my heart the moment I saw her. She was only 15 when the syndicate kidnapped and sold her on the black market. Being beautiful and a virgin is in high demand in underground society. The Ultor Organization was sent to rescue her the moment her family found out she was kidnapped. My team and I immediately work fast to save her before anything happens to her.
When I found Allana, she was drugged, and the man that bought her was almost at the edge of raping her. I killed those fucker but the syndicate behind her kidnapping become invisible again. We tried to track them down, but those bastards were good at hiding. We only destroyed their lower member.
"We both know Rainey, that Allana is going to be part of this." She gives me a final look.
"You are going to his brother's house, protect her nephew, and take down the syndicate behind your parent's death and Allana's s kidnapping. They need to stop and eliminate them once and for all. I waited for this moment to get justice for what they had done." She said firmly. "You are going there in a month from now. And your Pop has been calling me, so you better visit them."
I nod, not that I have a choice. We remain silent for a while.
She stood up, and I did the same. She comes near me and caresses my face. "You're a brave child, Zaila. I'm always proud of you."
She kisses me on my forehead. I close my eyes and enjoy the love she gives me.
"Thank you so much, Aunt Sav, for giving me a family that loves me like their own. Pop and Momma are the best parents I look up to."
I'm grateful to my Aunt for sending Pop to rescue me. The syndicate at that time was searching for a newborn in the nursery, luckily Dad took me out of the nursery and hid me with an old lady nurse until Pop came and took me for the nurse care. The tracker in my bracelet was the best thing that Mama gave to me. I still keep it in my room in my Nueva Vida home.
"That was the least I could do to protect you, honey. Now you are dismissed. Take a break, and I will call you when the time is right."
We hug each other for a while, and my Aunt let go with longing in her eyes. No one knew that we were related here in Ultor except for the Chairman of Ultor Organisation. We can't let anyone know until we eliminate the syndicate. We don't know who the traitors are.
I exit her office with the portfolio of my next mission. My team is waiting for me in the receiving area. They immediately stood up when they saw me exit my Aunt's office and join me in leaving the site. We take our large black sunglasses and wear them to cover our appearances as we step out of the room. We will not meet anyone in the corridor since this floor is private and only my Aunt's office and conference rooms of Ultor Organisation Top Heads are here, but it's much better to stay careful. No one knows our identities here.
The last time I saw anyone was when I was 13 years old. After that, my Aunt trained me separately with my sisters in a different facility. We trained there as a team, and only our Ultor trainers knew our faces.
Bubble takes the portfolio in my hand and starts reading while we keep walking. As we stopped in front of the elevator, Bubble closed the portfolio and looked at me in deep thought, trying to remember something. In the corner of my eyes, I saw Pen keep pressing the elevator button while Lavender was trying to stop her. I mentally shake my head at their behavior.
"Isn't he the man that you heard saying women are good for nothing but s*x?" she asked.
" The one and only. Just because his ex-girlfriend was a b***h and gold digger, he generalizes women in his view as like that." I rolled my eyes every time I remembered my first encounter with Alaric Guerrero. Tsk! The man was so arrogant and allergic to women but kept using them for his needs. When I heard him say those words, my blood boiled, and I responded to their conversation.
"He is afraid of having a relationship. What happened to him and his ex scarred his view of women. The only problem with it is that he is in denial and ignores two types of women. The good and bad. You scratched his ego when you fight back." Pinky explained.
We stepped inside the elevator and pressed the underground parking lot, where our car was parked.
"Man, his reaction was priceless when you said 'men were arrogant and blind that can't even recognize a b***h when he sees one," Ash said while cackling. She was behind me at that time when I answered Alaric.
I knew he was only holding himself to argue with me, afraid to make a scene at his father's party for Allana and Mason's engagement. I could feel the dagger look he threw in my direction throughout that night.
I smirk.
"He deserves it. He needs someone to knock his senses from time to time. Besides, I'm telling the truth; he can't accept his mistake of choosing his ex over his childhood sweetheart. Tsk. Glad the woman is happily married now after the heartache he caused."
I only said it now when I read it in his portfolio. He broke up with his high school sweetheart to pursue the girl only after his money and fame.
"I know. I feel sorry for the girl." Bubble agreed.
Ash takes the portfolio in Bubble's hand, and she starts reading. Curious about his life too.
"So when are you going to start?" Pen asked.
Before I could answer, the elevator door opened, and we stepped out and walked toward our old truck. The look can be deceiving, though, because our car is one of the advanced Ultor toys for agents. It only looks like an old truck to blend with the crowd.
"About that. I'm doing this alone." I answered that made them stop and face me. I raised an eyebrow at five of them.
"Define alone, Rain?" Lavender asked.
" This assignment is for me only. I'm going to be Ryker's tutor and bodyguard." I wanted to laugh at their reaction when they heard about my new job. They cringe as if they taste some sour milk the way their faces react.
Bubble cleared her throat. She was the first one who recovered the news and looked at me with determination on her face.
"Okay. We need to talk about this later, Rain. But know this, sissy. We are going to be with you in your 'solo' mission. Give us the details, and we help you from there," she said. The rest of them nod.
How can I forget? They are attached to my hips with glue.
I shrugged.
"Then you better call Sav to raise your case. I'm only following orders." I answered. I mentally smile. I know Aunt Sav was expecting this kind of reaction from them.
I take the driver's seat and start the truck. Ash is next to me while Pinky, Lavender, Bubble, and Pen are in the back.
"When are we going home?" Lavender asked.
"Why you're missing someone there already?" Ash asked teasingly. By instinct, my arm extends and slaps Ash softly in the back of her head.
"Hey!!!" She dramatically pouts. She likes to tease Lavender all the time.
"I don't know what you are talking about." Lavender denied it, but her blushing face said it all. "I just want to spend more time in my lab before we head to our new assignment."
We all chuckle, we aren't blind, but we choose to let them at their pace. She is still in the stage of denial.
Our assignment? Solo is never going to be in our vocabulary then.
"Tomorrow afternoon. We need to discuss my assignment on how to do this with you. Aunt Sav said we have a month to take a rest. She will call me once I'm needed."
Good thing our jobs in Josephine's Academy are part-time only. We appear there from time to time to give a sense of protection to our rescued girls.
"We have a tail," Bubble informed. She pulled up her laptop and started typing again. I smirk. When are they going to learn?
"Again." Pinky groans while taking the gun down from the seat.
"They are Ultor agents. 2 motorcycles and the white van." Pinky put the gun back when she heard Bubble mumbling.
"Oh, man. I thought of more activity again." Ash protests, but her eyes are now in the side mirror monitoring our tail's movement.
"Bubble?" She nods, and I press the accelerator to speed up.
"Turn right. I will mess the traffic behind to lose them. Tsk. Why can't they work with themselves and leave us alone." Bubble exclaimed.
I chuckle.
"The only way they can reach the top rank of Ultor Organisation is to remove us. To do that, they need some information about our private life for their plan to do so. They always failed to find any."
"Good luck with that. We are the Ultor Elite Team for nothing." Pen added.
Indeed.
