Chapter 1

2620 Words
I woke up from the comfort of my bed and checked the time. Six like always. I hop out of my bed, let out a yawn, and strip from my light pink silk PJ’s. I search my dresser for some clothing that won’t attract the wrong kind of attention to me for my first day of school. I find a pair of ripped skinny jeans, a black tank top, and a light blue sweater. Just as I am putting my sweater on, I get the sudden feel of nausea. I run to the bathroom and luckily my older brother isn't in there taking his sweet time. I get on my knees and lean over the toilet. I feel the burning sensation of what I assume is water come up my throat and listen as in lands in the toilet. I glance at the mirror and notice some blood staining my mouth. I feel horrible. My head is throbbing, and I feel dizzy. I sit there for a second staring at the ocean blue walls. I finally stand up and walk over to the sink. I turn on the tap and wash the blood from my face and brush my teeth. Trying to get the gross taste out of my mouth. I flush the toilet and walk back to my room in a slight daze. I’m probably dying… Once I reach my room, I begin brushing my hair hoping that this little accident won’t affect the rest of my day. My mother will probably say that I will still have to go to school, she has this whole thing of the first day being the most important day. She really pisses me off. But I can’t do much complaining. I have a big house and a wonderfully annoying brother looking out for me as well as food, so I won’t starve. As I leave my room and walk down the stairs, I look at all the pictures hanging on the walls. Some are of me and my father or the whole family together. I quickly turn away before I let myself get too worked up. It hurts seeing how happy things used to be compared to how it is now. I reach the bottom of the stairs and put on my black converse. I grab my keys and walk out of the house slamming the door shut making sure my brother gets up. As I begin my way to school, I feel like I am going to die. The nervousness and anxiety are not mixing well with the event that occurred this morning. I wish I could stay home or at least explore the town, but I can’t, this is a whole new school and I need to make the appearance of “the new girl’. I most likely won’t make any friends and no friends’ means being the outcast, not like it’s much of a surprise. I’m always the outcast no matter where I go. If only my older sister Lilac was still in school, then I’d be at the top of the food chain, she would make sure of it. But of course, she graduated and moved away. I know I can try and meet people but what’s the point? I’m probably just going to move again, and they are most likely all judgmental and stuck up. I guess that is hypocritical since I’m judging them with out any idea on who they are but that’s not the point. No one will want to talk to me because I am ‘the new girl’. Walking has always been the one thing I could do to let my mind wonder. But today I can't. Instead I look around and notice things I probably would have ignored, like the cracks in the sidewalk the bright green of the trees. I even notice the way the birds chirp and the way the sun beams down to the ground. It seems like a whole new world to me. But sadly, I reach the school within seconds. The school looks like it has been around for ages the walls are cracked and the grass looks dead. I quickly enter the big wooden doors and run through the narrow halls towards the office so I can get a lock and my class schedule. I walk in and find everything that is meant for me with help from the secretary. I run through the halls and make my way to my first class. I sneak in and take the closest seat to the door. The chalk board is covered in writing and the walls full of posters. Everyone has their eyes forward listening to the teacher speak. As I go to grab out a notebook and a pen from my bag to write down everything on the bored, I hear the door creak open. That’s when I see him walk in he has big blue eyes and shaggy black hair that looks blue in the light. I sit staring at him, I am out of his league, I’m a freak! I brush my black and pink hair out of my face and let out a silent sigh, I really hope I don’t make a fool of myself, not like it would really matter. I’m just a nobody in a crowd of somebodies (Or just snobby idiots, I’m not sure yet). I continue to stare at him, but he doesn’t seem to notice. I go back to writing when he walks right in front of me and blocks my sight. “Excuse me.” I say in a soft voice. He just sat there ignoring me. He wasn’t even paying attention to the lesson. His eyes were glued to his phone. “Excuse me!” I said this time a little louder. The person sitting next to me gives me a nasty look, then switches his attention back to the bored. This is just perfect. How am I supposed to learn when I have some stubborn ass sitting in front of me? This time I tap him on the shoulder and he looks back at me. “What?” he asks in a husky whisper. For a second, I’m at a loss for words and too stunned by his beauty. “Oh um... I can’t see the bored with you sitting there.” “Oh, sorry. I’ll move over a bit.” He then slides his desk over carefully making sure not a sound in the process. “Better?” “Uh yeah…” I look back at the bored and begin writing everything that I have missed. I suddenly have the urge to cough. I knew this couldn’t be good. I mean with what has happened thus far, this cough or whatever will most likely be more than a simple cough. As I sit there struggling with the urge to cough the hot guy sitting in front of me turns around. “Hey, my pen just ran out of ink, can you lend me one of yours?” “Yeah here.” As I hand him a pen I start coughing. First its a few simple coughs but then I feel my lips getting damp. I look at my desk and see red spots on my note book. I look up at the guy and end up coughing so hard that I end up falling out of my chair. At this point everyone is staring at me. Everyone seems to be laughing at me. I quickly stand up and shove my books into my bag and run out of the room. I think I might die with all the attention focused on me. What if someone saw the blood on my book, what would they say? I walk to the bathroom and lock myself in a stall. I sit there crying, I’m going to be the new piece of gossip around this f*****g school. I sit there thinking about all the rumors that will go around when that guy from earlier pops into my head. He watched me as I coughed up blood and he said nothing. He didn’t even look shocked. It’s like this isn’t his first time seeing something like this. I quickly wipe my eyes and head to the sink. I reach into my bag grab out my make-up kit and fix myself up. Once I’m done I grab some paper towel and wash the blood from my lips, this way no one should notice. The bell suddenly rings signaling second period is about to start and that’s when I leave the bathroom. I go to the next classroom but when I get through the door everyone laughs again. Instead of running I go to an empty desk and look down at my book, open it to a blank page, and cover it with words of hatred. The teacher enters and begins the lesson. I ignore the class and continue to write on my notebook, finally the bell goes and its lunch break. I leave the class alone and walk towards my new locker. As I walk, I receive many awkward glances. I open my locker, stuff my books and other things inside, reach into my bag and grab my lunch and a sketch book then head straight for the café. I sit down at an empty table and begin eating my lunch by myself. After a while I see him come into view. I put my head down and start doodling in my book. I peek up at him and notice him come closer and closer to my lonesome table. “Hey mind if I sit here. I'm new and don’t have any friends.” “Hey its fine take a seat. I know how it feels to be alone...” I say as I take a bite of my sandwich. “Really a girl like you always alone? I don’t believe it!” “It’s true...” I say as I take a quick peak at him. I notice him looking at my sketch book with a curious look. “Want to look at it? It’s nothing special.” “Oh, sure…” he says with I slight chuckle. “Caught me looking at it huh?” “Yeah, it’s not that good but by all means go for it.” Slowly he takes the book and begins flipping through, looking at each page with wide eyes. “You drew all these?” “Only the ones signed M.E.S. the ones signed J.D.S or L.T.S. are done by my older brother and sister.” “Yours are by far the best.” “Thanks my dad took his time teaching me.” I say. “I just took it to heart.” “So what does M.E.S. stand for anyways?” “My initials.” “What are they?” “Midnight E. Star.” “What’s the E. for?” “My middle name, but it will remain a secret.” “Come on, I got need know!” “Sorry, I was always told not to talk to strangers.” I say jokingly as I stick out my tongue. “Come on, I’m no stranger!” “Sure you are!” “Nah, we’re class mates. Therefore you know me.” “I may know you exist but I don’t know your name.” “The names Damon E. Park.” “Your middle name starts with an E. too?” “Yeah. I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours.” He say with a smile. “It’s Elizabeth.” “Nice, mines Elli…” As he’s about to finish his sentence three ‘cool’ girls come and start talking to him. “Um, you’re interrupting our conversation.” I say shyly but they don’t even acknowledge me. The three girls are very beautiful. One is short with brunette hair and green eyes. She is wearing a pink lip gloss and light blue eye-shadow. The second girl is fairly tall with Bleach blonde hair with a white rose tucked behind her left ear. She was very pretty. She also wore a pink lip gloss but instead of blue eye-shadow it was a smoky black. The last girl was average height and had red hair that came to her waist she seemed unfamiliar with her surrounding so I’m guessing she's also new. She wore no make-up and kept her eyes down. “Hey would you like to sit with us? A guy like you shouldn't be seen with a girl like her its simple math.” “Don’t you think that’s a little rude?” “Uh... Not really…” “I believe it was. What about you Midnight?” I look at him in shock. “Yeah, I mean it was a little rude…” I say. He gives me a gentle smile and turns back to the other girls. “Anyways, why don’t you come with us?” the brunette asks obviously not waiting to stay here any longer than she must. “How about no.” He says, surprisingly. “Oh come on...” the red head pleads. She doesn’t seem to want to make a scene unlike her ‘friends’. “Uhh.” “Please it would make me so very happy.” Blondie pleads pushing out her bottom lip. I can’t take any more of this stupid conversation, so I look away. “Come on, can’t you just leave us alone for a bit.” he sighs. “If you’re just staying here because you feel bad, don’t worry about me and go.” I say. “But I’m not…” “Come on Damon! She isn’t worth it.” “Yeah she’s just some stupid bitch.” “Hey now!” “Just go…” I say as I grab my sketch book off the table. “What was that?” the red head said as she looked at me. “What was what Sarah?” “That book she had.” The blonde walks over and grabs the book right out of my hand. “Clarissa what the hell?” Damon says. The blonde named clrissa looks at him and shrugs. “What I just want to take a peek.” “You could have asked first.” “You don’t care, right?” “I...” “See she doesn’t care!” Clarissa says. I look down at the table as she looks through my sketch book. “These are terrible!” Clarissa say throwing the book down onto the table. I reach for my book, but the brunette stops me. She lifts and up and begins flipping through the pages. “wow these really are trash! They should be burned!” She hands the book to the red head I believe her name was Sarah. She grabs it hesitantly and begins flipping through the pages. She stays quiet for awhile than places the book back down. “Well?” “Well what?” “What do you think?” Clarissa says obviously expecting her to trash talk my work some more. “Well, they aren’t the best.” “That’s it?” “I mean its obvious that more than one person has drawn in this book.” “So? If I knew what was drawn by who than maybe I could give a better critique.” The brunette sighs while Clarissa shakes her head. Damon chuckles and I hurriedly grab my book back. “Whatever!” Clarissa says obviously annoyed with Sarah. “Anyways Damon will you join us away from this want to be?” I hold my book tightly to myself and stare into the table. Can’t they just leave us alone? He is obviously not interested! Why do I even care? I just want to be left alone, its better that way. “It’s fine, you can go.” I say quietly. “Are you sure?” “Yeah, it’s better this way…” “What…” As he goes to say something more the girls drag him away. “See Damon she gets it! You deserve better than that!” The bell finally rings for the next class to begin and I remember why I hate being the new girl. I wish I could skip the rest of the day and go explore this town instead, but I couldn’t, I wouldn’t! I reach the classroom 2 minutes late. As I walk to my seat, I see Damon. Of course, he chooses to sit beside me. Great how can I work with him right beside me? He turns to face me and opens his mouth like he wants to say something. But the teacher cuts him off thankfully. “Mr. Park please turn around and pay attention to the lesson.” “Please call me by my first name and I’m...” The teacher interrupted “Damon Park, that’s enough out of you! Now class we are going outside for today so I expect you to have a change of clothes we are going to be doing 5 laps around the field then a game of basketball.”
