LYRA (OLIVIA)’S POV.
I can feel my feet hurt as I continue my fast pace and I feel myself lose my balance when I turn just my head to look over my shoulder. Hitting the floor, I groan and shut my eyes as the pain radiating through my body increases. Not only am I in pains from tripping over a tree’s fig; but also from some unknown source that only Mateo can stop temporarily.
In all, I am still trying to assimilate every word Maximus said, but I should focus on my right arm which stings, the discomfort between my thighs, my aching head and body. Opening my shut eyes; I smile despite myself as my gaze meets the weeping willow I am laid beneath. Raising my left hand to touch the closest long one; I whimper and let my hand fall back.
“I hate my life.” I murmur and tilt my head to the right.
The sight before me forces me to sit and then stand despite my pains. Walking away from previous place, I step forward and dip my feet into the water causing a ripple to form.
“Why am I in someone else’s body?” I ask the reflection of the starry sky and moon, but I expect no answer.
‘Do you really hate being here when you are yet to spend twenty-four hours? What if you just try to understand what this place is all about? Do you not feel like an angel now that you know the future of this past because you are from the future? Can you leave the questions bothering you and enjoy the flow?’ The voice is super clear and I turn around to find who just spoke to me.
“Where are you?” I raise my voice and I am replied with a deafening silence.
‘Answer those questions first.’ The voice final breaks the silence and I fall on my knees.
Goose bumps finds their way to my skin as my wet cloths sticks to my body like a second skin. Letting my hands form an involuntary fist, I look around once again to be sure no one is playing a prank on me.
“You think it is a good thing to be nineteen when I was twenty-nine? And I am now mated to two younger ones? It is surprising how your moon goddess who seems to be your god here wants a threesome…” I mutter.
‘That’s not the answer I want.’ The voice replies and I nibble on my tongue.
I am the crazy one for talking to someone invisible.
‘I heard that.’ The same voice replies and I fall into the water.
Holding my nose in other not to breath as I can’t swim. I feel my breath suck out and after struggling to keep my head up, I finally let myself sink as my feet gets cramped. My eyes stings not only from the effect of the water, but also from the tears forming in my eyes.
In this moment, I really wish someone wouldn’t save me if I will wake up to being Olivia Haynes again. I promise to never complain about being used like a slave ever again. I am being used like a slave, but at least I am paid handsomely enough to pay for my basic necessities.
I need a chance to buy a luxurious apartment of my own, a car, find love, date, get married and have kids if they won’t trouble me _
“Hey, wake up.” I hear a distant voice calling out and I smile.
Call my name. Call my name please. I do not mind waking up in a hospital. I want to hear a machine beeping sound. I must have gotten involved in a car crash and that’s why I am here. Call me Olivia.
“Open your eyes, I can tell you aren’t dead yet. You are heaving up and down.” The same distant voice adds and I keep my eyes shut.
Just call my name. I do not want to wake up in the nightmare of becoming a royal overnight in some medieval. Just say Olivia Haynes, please.
“Okay. I might have to throw you back into the water, then.” The voice continues.
The reason why I travelled back in time is because I fell into the water or -
No, I fell into the water when the invisible startled me…
Opening my eyes in slits, I place my hand over my mouth to muffle my scream as a white wolf hovers over my head.
“I knew you were pretending to be dead.” The wolf speaks and I scream again.
“What – t-t-the hell –“ I stutter and the wolf steps back as I continue to scream.
Right in front of me, I watch the wolf transform into a stark nude man and I scream again. Turning my back to him; I move my hand to my damp and sand filled hair before noticing the clothes I still have on is the same as the one I used in appearing before the king.
“You have never seen a man bare?” I feel a tap on my shoulder and I turn to look at him.
Of course, I said I never got a chance to date, I didn’t even get laid, not even a mistaken one-night stand like the one from the book, HIS.
“Right before you ask who I am and why I have a mask on, I will give you an answer but not an actual one. I should be totally mad at you right now for trespassing and walking into my favorite spot but because I saved you, you are allowed. I never tell anyone my name and I have a mask on because I had an accident last year that marred my face.” He rants and I shiver.
“You have no house?” I ask and he shakes his head.
He takes my hands and I let him as he leads me away from the water. He ascends a mountain through a series of mountain like steps and I follow behind him. He finally stops in front of a bonfire and I smile because of the warmth from the fire.
“How do you feel now?” He asks as I sit and fold my legs to myself.
My aching body and head is all gone and the sky seems brighter than before.
“How long did I pass out?” I ask and he shakes his head.
“I saw when you fell into the water. I thought you could swim so I let you struggle for few minutes. Right before I could jump in to save you, you drowned and it took a long time before I could save you. That’s not the answer to the question I asked earlier.” He replies and I nod.
Hearing his voice when he saved me sounded like I was saved almost immediately after wished not to be saved. That explains why the sky seems like it is almost morning.
“I feel hungry, tired and hurt.” I answer his earlier asked question and he nods.
“I have no problem fixing the first, but the second and the third is something you would have to deal with yourself. I heard you were appointed as the next Luna.” He replies and I raise a brow.
“Who are you?” I ask.
“That’s a question you should have asked earlier.” He answers and stand.
He walks away from me without a word and I rub my arms with my palms as my cloth gets dry.
“A bonus answer would be, get your heart prepared against heartbreak because it is going to hurt so bad. Even if you tell yourself you do not want to feel it, you would eventually because it is beyond your control. Once your wolf is hurting, you would be hurting too. You have got heartbreakers as mates.”
Maximus words returns to my memory and I bury my head between my legs.
“She is my mate and I can do whatever I want with her.” Mateo’s words reiterate as many times as it wants to torment me and I groan.
“Here.” I hear and raise my head.
The masked guy places a plate containing some weird white substance and I shake my head.
“What’s that?” I whisper and at this moment, I wish to see his expression, but his mask has it all hidden.
“Tofu. It is something you must have eaten many times.” He replies and urge me to eat as he takes out a long paper.
“So, I will use my hand to eat it? Isn’t there a cutlery?”
“What’s that?” He takes out a brush and some mug containing black ink.
“A fork, spoon or knife.” I tell him and when he doesn’t seem to have an answer for me I nod.
It is fine, I always forget I am now in a place that has no technology.
Moving my hand to pick small, I withdraw and part my lips to speak but refrain.
“You were going to speak.” He says and I look at him.
I really want to see his face, marred or not.
“If I am to use my hand to eat I need to wash my hands.” I reply and he looks at my hand as I shove the tofu into my mouth.
“You are eating already.” He replies and continue drawing.
I watch him draw a man’s face as I eat more and he stops to look at my face.
“Were you trying to kill yourself because you were chosen by the princes?” He asks out of the blue.
“If drowning would have made me return, then yes.” I answer and he drops the brush.
“Do you hate being royal?”
“I do not know.”
“You can talk to me. I will always be right here on this mountain.” He replies.
“You are wolf and mountain guardian, right?”
“You can call me that.” He answers and I smile a bit.
“This place is peaceful. I might come here to hide every day. I haven’t spent minutes in the palace and it is already hell. This place has so much feeling of solace.” I tell him and he takes the empty plate away from me.
Laying on my side right in front of the fire, I use my hand as a pillow to make lying on the mountain comfortable. The rest of the pain wears out by minutes and I shut my eyes until there is a rustling sound from beneath the mountain.
“If you do not want the king’s men to find you, you would have to hide both your scent and self.” Masked guy says as he helps me stand and I stare back at him.
“Does one hide scent? How do I hide my scent? Where do I hide? it is not like there is a tree or…” The rest of my words are swallowed as he hushes me with his index finger placed on his lips.
He makes a sign for me to follow behind him and I follow. He leads me into some cave and I shiver from the cold.
“I am sorry.” He says and run out.
Falling to the cold floor, I shiver and look around to be sure some cave animal isn’t hiding somewhere and when nothing is hidden; I shut my eyes again.
“Please, let me wake up as Olivia. Wherever the real Lyra is, let her return to her body. She was made for this, so she shouldn’t run from it.” I wish and open my eyes as I can hear distant voices.
The wind coming in through the cave’s opening gets intense and I remain still as much as I can until the discomfort and heat between my thighs increases again. Rolling on the floor, I whimper and sit with my back rested against the wall of the cave.
Moving my hand to my chest, I groan again and again until I feel my bones c***k. Hissing, I let my face get wet from my tears and clench my hands. Slipping to the ground slowly, I shut my eyes again.
“Incase if I get stuck in this world for long. Let anyone from the palace not find this place, because I feel so much peace on this mountain so let it be my hiding place.” I pray and open my eyes.
