His eyes slowly opened and immediately saw the familiar ceiling above with the rotating plastic blades from a fan hanging on the ceiling. He blinked, it was his room, his small precious room.
He turned sideways just to see a body-size mirror meters away from his bed, directly facing him. And there he saw his haggard face, wet from the intense sweat and the strands of his curly hair were sticking on his forehead, he panted as if he made a 50-M run.
"Shino my dear! Hurry up and wash! It's your first day at work!" His mother called out
He blinked to wake himself up. He seated and tried to calm down his fast-beating heart, his hands were still shivering but he grip them down and got off of the bed.
He sighed as to prepare himself.
It's his first day at the Jack Finance Company. A prestigious company all over the world that always makes it to the top among the leading companies in the country, they didn't skip a year without making a feat in the industry.
He and his mother jumped for joy when he receive the email that he is hired. He applied one month ago, and it was nerve-racking but the wait is completely over.
He will start the internship first to become a regular employee and he is fully determined to make money from his efforts.
He showered and wore his suit, adjusting his tie in the mirror. When he finished preparing, he made one last glimpse on his face. His curly hair combined with his white face is always showing a great complementing image, the delicate side of him was already a part of his visage.
"Leave a good impression on your boss and to your co-workers okay?" his mother said as she lay the meals on the table.
"First impression always last as they say." she happily said
"In this modern-day, they always look on skills and efficiency Mom," he replied as he settled.
He took a sandwich and his fresh milk, as usual, eating contently before the clock moved to 7:30.
"And also, you remembered Julie? Your Aunt Kathy's daughter? She's working in the Apparel section of that company. So don't forget to contact her." her mother said as she give his coat to him.
"Yes Mom, I've been in contact with her since yesterday," he replied
"Good, good. Just do your best okay...." she was double-checking his suit but paused as he stare at his neck
"...And be careful." she moved his collar upward and stare at his eyes in all sincerity and full of worry.
Shino smiled softly to her, "I will."
He turned to leave their old and dark apartment, the paints are already too dull and the wall has small cracks visible all around. The elevator doesn't function anymore and all they could do was take the dusty stairs.
This old building in Humsvan has stood for decades and the land had a bit of market value but still not enough to sell to rich companies that's why the rent is cheaper than any other.
He and his mother with their combined savings can only afford this place but once Shino saves up from his work, he promised to leave and move to a better place for himself and his mother.
He took the taxi and drove towards the tall building in the City. He smiled as he gazed at the far away from the tall structure and the fact that he'll move to work there, it's a dream come true!
He never knew he could live a normal life again.
The car finally stopped and he nervously got off from it, staring at the amazing facade of the building centering this industrial area. He hasn't got a chance like this before because this area was quite exclusive, he doesn't mean about the manner of discrimination but average people felt small whenever they take one step in this area for rich people.
He gulped before entering the building.
He was instructed to go to the marketing department for orientation and start-up seminars. He took his way towards the place but due to nervousness, he bumped into someone who came from the west side.
He almost flew from the big build of the man he bumped but luckily, the man grabbed his arm from completely falling.
But the pull made him hug his chest, and he started hearing gasps and whispers all around him.
He blinked and immediately stepped backward, he bowed as he apologize, "I'm sorry!"
He bit his lips, now he had done something shameful on his first day.
"It's okay. Don't worry about it." the man replied
Shino smiled still avoiding eye contact.
"Is it your first day here?" the man asked
Shino nodded, just staring at the unique curved pin on the man's tie.
"What department are you?"
"Ugh." he got awkward, he learned not to be detailed in giving his information.
"I'm just about to attend an orientation for today," he replied
"Hm..." the man hummed in satisfaction
"So what department are you?" he asked again
Shino blinked and was thinking for another reason but someone spoke.
"Sir the meeting is starting." the man beside him said
"Oh, yes, yes of course I forgot." the man said
"Well, later again!" he said to Shino
"And hope you could stare back at me again the next time," he added before walking forward.
Shino finally heaved down and the expensive suit that he's seeing has completely walked away.
"Hey there Shin-Shin, do you know him?" someone asked beside him
He immediately turned to the person and sighed, it was just his cousin, Julie, staring at the man whose meter away already
"I just bumped into him," he replied staring at Julie's jingling earring.
"Really? So what did he say? Did he get angry?" she curiously asked.
He shakes his head, "He's nice for someone working in here."
"I heard that the employees here are busy and quite vicious when interrupted that's why I thought he's nice."
Julie burst to laugh. She laughed out loud and got to cover her hands on her stomach.
"Seriously...." she was laughing continuously
Shino's smile stiffened, did he say something funny?
"It's the company's CEO silly!" Julie exclaimed
Shino's eyes widened. "C-CEO?"
"Nice, right?" she asked sarcastically
"It's Daylan Jack, the ever-friendly and amusing CEO that you'll ever meet," she said
She punched his shoulder lightly "Good for your first day that you bumped into him and immediately got an opportunity to talk to him. He's very busy that we seldomly see his face on the building." she added
"But I don't think that would make me earn bigger here." he reprimanded
Julie laughed again, "Right! But you see, he's the nicest CEO out there. I just think you should be honored because I honestly honor him."
Shino nodded and Julie just sighed. Of course, Shino's been no respecter of people and aimed for personal benefits. She's been with him since kindergarten but got separated during high school.
"So where are you going now? I just got your message," she asked
"I am instructed to attend an orientation at the marketing department," he answered
"Oh right! It's on the 20th floor, I'll guide you."
