-Elena- He was a monster, just like Marcus. I didn’t know who he was, what he planned to do with me, or why Marcus had handed me over, but there was no doubt in my mind—this man was a monster. Why else would he be at that dreadful place? Now, he was taking me somewhere worse, probably to my death. I had seen how he had treated the man who killed my aunt. The guy looked haunted or broken, but I didn’t understand why. All this man had done was look at him. I shook my head, trying to push the thought away. In my final hours, I didn’t want to waste time dwelling on it. All I wanted was to spend the remaining moments dreaming of my aunt. I was going to see her soon. She might hate me for being the cause of her death, but I promised myself I would spend an eternity earning her forgiveness. A
