Roxy stood in amazement as she glanced at her surroundings. Everything was remarkable. It was like something out of a fairy tale. The house was an impressive size and fit all of the guests there perfectly. It was historical, and she could tell this building had been here for a long time.
A sweet angelic voice spoke to her. "Built in the late 1800s. It was used for many things. A hospital of sorts, a museum, bed and breakfast, and later passed down from family to family and is now our home."
Roxy turned in curiosity to see who was speaking to her. "Hello, my name is Isabel. I am the pack healer."
Roxy eyed Brent, who was still standing beside her. "Healer?"
"Isabel, she is all new to this. You might want to explain what a healer is to her first."
"Sure, my apologies. It is my duty to heal other wolves that are injured in a battle, fights, or even accidents. We are also called pack doctors, so it is whichever you prefer. I am gifted to heal other wolves."
"Oh, okay. There is so much to know about how a pack operates." Roxy looked back and forth between Brent and Isabel, sensing something between the two of them.
"It was nice to meet you, Roxy. If you need anything at all, do not hesitate to come and find me." Isabel said as she clicked her heels and walked away with ease.
"Brent, is there something going on between the two of you?"
"You caught that, huh? No, but there used to be. We have both yet to find our mates. If a wolf has not found their mate, they can also date other non-mated wolves to see if there is a connection. You can still be with another wolf even if you are not destined to bet mated. Well, Isabel and I tried that path, but it did not work out. She says I did not try hard enough to make it work, but I feel like the right relationship does not require to be as hard as it was for her and me. So, I ended things with her. That was over a year ago. She is still a little upset with me. It does not help that I brought a date tonight."
"I see." Roxy was already on edge, and this does not help matters at all. The last thing she wanted was to have a member of the pack hating her for something she did not even know.
Brent began showing her around the home. As a young man walked by with a tray in hand, he snatched two champagne glasses from the tray and handed one to Roxy. Brent showed her room by room and shared a piece of history with each. Roxy was kind to each guest that approached her, and she had finally calmed down and was now having a bit of fun. Each person she met was different from the last, and she was intrigued to learn more.

"Alpha, it seems like all of our guests have arrived," said Cole, the beta of the pack and the alpha's best friend.
"Thank you, Cole. Tell me, what do you think about this Roxy girl anyway? Brent seems to have his focus mainly on her when it should be here."
"You will see. She is downstairs with Brent. I see why he has such a fascination with her. She is a sight. It is no wonder he has been preoccupied lately."
"What would your mate say about that?"
Cole playfully hit him in the shoulder while laughing. "Dawn will be just fine. She knows that she is the only one for me. I am just saying that Brent did well. She is stunning. I wonder if they are mated. That would be something."
"Enough talk about mates. Let's get downstairs. I am sure our guests will be wondering where we are."
They walked downstairs and greeted everyone that waited for them. The alpha had attracted the attention of every woman in the room but one. Roxy had her attention set on Brent. Roxy and Brent were at the other end of the home, walking back into the main room where all the guests were, concluding their tour.
The alpha looked all over the room at each guest carefully. A strong smell engulfed him, sending his wolf into a hasted state. His wolf took over as he guided him around to find the intoxicating smell. He weaved in and out of the guest as he started to become impatient with his wolf. Suddenly, the smell got stronger, pushing him harder to find the source. At the back of the crowd stood Brent and Roxy. They were giggling with one another, not paying any attention that the alpha was now standing behind them, listening to their conversation.
The alpha coughed, making Brent turn around, and Roxy followed. As Roxy turned, her eyes landed on his. His wolf screamed inside of him as he said it aloud for only Brent and Roxy to hear, "Mine!"
A long silence filled the air between them. It allowed Roxy enough time to get a good look at the alpha. His physique was tall and buff. He had strong, broad shoulders that helped to show off his muscular build. He had dark brown hair that was short in length, his eyes burned bright like the sun, and he had a chiseled face with dimples on either side of his cheeks. He was sexy as hell. Roxy could not deny that, nor could she take her eyes off him.
Brent’s eyes slowly shifted to gaze at Roxy. He could not believe what he had just witnessed. His alpha hated the idea of a mate. Now what? He is rewarded with one as captivating as her.
"You are coming with me!" He grabbed onto Roxy's wrists, pulling her behind him and up the stairs to his room. All the while, Roxy was looking back at Brent, pleaded with him to follow them, but he did not.
"What do you think you are doing!?" Roxy screamed as he threw her against the bed.
"Let us get one thing straight. I do not care that you are my mate. You are an insignificant little wolf that has no business being here with my pack. You will never be a part of our pack. Do you understand that?"
Roxy could hardly breathe. She heard her wolf claim him as her mate downstairs, too, but what did that mean? She suddenly felt a connection to him and a desire to be with him, but she did not understand it at all. He was her mate, and he could not care less. "Can you at least tell me your name then?"
"Blake." Damn. He did not understand why he had just told her that. He was trying so desperately to deny the urge to kiss her and claim her as his. She was indeed a sight to see, but he could not allow himself to be mated. It would make him weak. She would make him vulnerable, and he refused to be the downfall of his pack. "Now leave. You are no longer welcome here."
Roxy was not only feeling hurt but anger toward how cruel he was being. "Fine! I will have Brent take me home."
"Hell no, you will not! You are no longer going to see him or any other male for that matter."
"You cannot tell me who I can and cannot see! I will do as you wish and never come back here, but you will not keep me from seeing Brent."
"Do you understand who I am?"
"Yes, you are the alpha. Does it look like I care? You do not get to humiliate me in front of everyone by dragging me up to this room, then throw me out like a piece of trash and tell me that I can no longer see Brent. You may be alpha of this pack, but you are not my alpha so let's get that clear now." Roxy was now only inches from Blake's face.
She was tempting him. He could not help but stare at her parted lips as she talked. His wolf was trying to take control, but he could not let him. If he did, he would kiss her and ruin all that he had built. Rain sensed his hesitation, so she decided to take control and give Roxy the little nudge that she needed.
Roxy closed her eyes, and when she reopened them, Blake could tell her wolf had complete control.
"Kiss me."
"No. Now give back Roxy control."
"Make no mistake that we are mated now, alpha. It will make no difference how hard you try to deny this bond. This will happen. It always does." Rain began to slide the dress from the one shoulder it clung to.
Blake grabbed onto it before it could fall. He slammed her up against the wall. "It was not a request! Give her back control now! Or, I promise this will be the last appearance you make unannounced.”
Fearful for Roxy's safety, Rain closed her eyes to give Roxy back control. As Roxy opened her eyes, tears began to fall down her colorful cheeks.
"I will take you home, Roxy. After that, you will never see me or any member of my pack again. Is that clear?"
"Screw you! I do not need a ride from an asshole like you." Roxy stripped out of her clothes right there in front of him, leaving him in shock. His eyes followed from her head down to her feet as he took in her magnificent figure. Blake could not help but stare at her irresistible assets. His c**k twitched as he began to imagine all the things he could to her untouched body. Just then, she shifted into wolf form and flung herself through the window. Blake ran over to the window just in time to see her land and take off into the woods.
**
It was just after midnight when Roxy made it home from the clearing in the woods. As she stepped inside the house, she ran straight to her room and slammed the door as hard as she could. From all the tears that she had now cried, her eyes started to swell a little.
A soft knock came across the door before it opened, and in walked her mom. She immediately saw the state her daughter was in. She rushed over toward her curled up on the bed and began attempting to comfort her. “What happened, honey?”
“Oh, mom! It is so bad.” Her breath started heaving in and out at a rapid pace.
“Calm down first, Roxy. Sit up and tell me exactly what happened.”
“He is my mate!”
“Brent? Well, I thought you would be happy about that. He is a nice young man. I am not sure what the problem is.”
“No, not Brent, mom. The alpha. He is my mate!”
Her mother gasped loudly while putting her hand over her mouth. “Oh my! Tell me…what happened.”
“Brent was introducing me to members of his pack and others. We were having a great time. Then suddenly, I felt a gravitational pull, but I ignored it because I was not sure what it meant. The feeling got stronger as he approached us. When I turned around to face him, our eyes connected, and both of our wolves screamed ‘mate.’ He was the only one that said it aloud. Mom, he refused me as his mate. Told me that I was not important and that I was never allowed to come back there or ever to see Brent again.”
“Honey, Brent will find his way back over to you. He cares for you, and alpha or no alpha, he will want to talk to you. Did you talk with him after?”
“No, Blake and I got into a heated argument, and I shifted to my wolf and jumped out the window. I ran straight here.”
“Blake, huh? I never knew his name, but it is nice to finally put a name to his alpha status. Everything will be alright, darling. He only asked you not to see Brent because he is jealous now. You are destined to be mates no matter how hard he wants to deny that. He may act like he does not want you but believe me, honey, he is fighting back the urge to be with you. And since he cannot have you, he will not allow you to be with anyone else. There is a silver lining here. You do not have to deal with him anymore. Like I have told you before, it is best to avoid someone like him.”
“I feel concerned for him, but I do not want to feel this way. How can I make it stop?”
“Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is to force the feelings you have deep down and ignore them the best you can. Then move on with your life. You will not be connected to him unless the mating process is complete. If he has not marked you and you have not marked him, then you should be okay.”
Roxy was too exhausted to hear anymore. Her eyes now felt heavy from all the crying, and she desperately wanted to fall asleep. “I am really tired now, so I am going to go to bed and pretend like this day never happened."
