The In-Between
The telephone call on Thursday evening left me even more confused. I realised that the changes that Laura was asking of me could not happen overnight. At one point the previous weekend she’d used the phrase “starting from zero” and that was a great way to describe it. Over some period of time I’d let myself become complacent. I’d taken Laura for granted, taken my ability to learn for granted, taken my ability to stay trim and fit for granted. I’d basically turned into a slob. What Laura and Christine were doing was bizarre. It made sense in a crazy kind of way, but it was really like something out of a porno movie.
