CHAPTER 2: SURPRISE !

Andrew’s POV

The doors of the conference hall opened simultaneously as I looked down at my vibrating phone to see my kitten’s instant reply.

Everyone stood up and even without looking up, I could tell that the person who had come in was exuding a powerful aura.

Who is it that dares to own the business world ? I smirked as I put away my phone.

I finally looked up and at the far end of the table was the person I was least expecting to be !

Holy f*****g s**t !

This can’t be true !!

Am I dreaming ?

No no.

How is it possible ? It can’t be !

MY BOSS IS MY KITTEN !!!!!!!!

“Your phone is ringing, Mr. Robinson”, a familiar but strongly dominating female voice said. “Kindly answer to it. Looks urgent to me”, she said with a formal smile. “Till then your Vice President can hand over the project files to me”, she added turning towards Bryant.

I could see that Bryant was just blank with shock and no power of God could make his open mouth close.

His face had gone white and he stood completely still, looking like he had seen a ghost.

“Um-mm Mr. Bryant ?”, Dane said a bit louder as Bryant showed no signs of moving from his place.

“Oh ! Yes ofcourse, Ma’am”, he said as consciousness suddenly dawned back to him and he hurriedly scampered outside the room.

I had always been a shrewd and cold man with the power of showing no emotions whatsoever. It was an understatement to say that my aura was domineering.

Life had thrown a lot many surprises and shocks- good and bad at me but at no point had my face ever let anyone know what I was thinking or feeling about- not even when Ellene left me to my dark doom.

I always managed to get an upper hand even when the sailing was going down.

But today was different !

Lady life was playing with me- hard and rough.

I still couldn’t gather myself to believe that my soft and innocent Mia was Rovio’s powerful Head !

However after my initial shock, I managed to play it cool and I was back to being the domineering boss of my own company.

“As important as the messages are, I still hold my values to not disrespect a guest to our company”, I replied with no emotion in my voice whatsoever.

“Allow me to introduce the Chairman of our conglomerate, Mr. Robinson- Ms. Katya Cahill. She did her Masters in Business from Harvard alongside Law from the same reputed university by the age of 18 years. She has been handling Rovio’s affairs for a decade now”, Dane said.

“I believe a formal introduction is expected from my side too”, I grinned as I walked towards the lady at the opposite end of the room.

“I am Andrew Robinson- Chairman and CEO of Astrax. I hold dual degrees too- Masters in Business and Medicine from Yale. I started this company from scratch with no external help in the dorm of my university although my parents are the business Heads of their own companies in the States”, I said as I seated myself in the empty chair beside Rovio’s muscle woman.

“Pleasure to meet you Ms. Cahill”, I added coldly as I stretched out my hand towards her.

“The pleasure is mine, Mr. Robinson”, she replied as she firmly shook back my hand.

Wow I was totally loving this side of hers a lot and although I was acting firm and cold around her, the twitch in my pants was turning into a raging boner with every strong move and/ or even due to a simple sentence that was coming out from her sexy mouth.

My kitten was the most beautiful and heavenly woman with a tall and slender figure with the right proportion of curves everywhere.

Her deep black eyes and luscious red lips accentuated her flawless glowing skin and even now when those eyes settled on mine, I could feel my breath taken away just like the first time I saw her a month back.

But f**k it all !

She lied to me ! Wasn’t I worthy of her trust or secret ?

This sudden thought was like a bucket of cold ice for me as I suddenly started feeling sad and betrayed.

However, my poker face did not reveal anything and I simply focused back to the meeting.

“Mr. Robinson, your company has a clean balance sheet with competent employees. Hence, Rovio would like to invest an additional 1 trillion in your company to complete our ambitious projects that are with Torio Inc. presently”, Dane said, much to everyone’s surprise in the room.

Whoa ! This announcement was totally unexpected !!

The situation had oscillated from being at the mercy of our most powerful client for survival to actually controlling funds worth the amount which even some countries did not make !

“Astrax would love to help strengthen the partnership with Rovio but I personally believe that personal accidents should not come in the way of business and long standing partnerships”, I said implying about Ellene’s misguided actions the previous night.

“Rovio has never acted on personal vendetta, Mr. Robinson”, Katya replied firmly.

“Then what is this right now ?”, I smirked.

“Torio has lagged behind its deadlines and a request for more funding was initiated from their end last month. However, due to our Chairman’s first vacation from the company’s affairs in a decade, we did not disturb her and nor did we reject the proposal before running the details through her”, Dane said.

Wait a minute !

What the actual f**k ?

Is this woman- a human or a machine ? Did he just say first vacation and that too in a decade ?

This s**t is getting intense, I could tell.

I admit that I am an extreme case of a workaholic myself but Bryant makes it a point that I take a break atleast twice or thrice a year to get back in form.

But this was insane !

My kitten is really a relentless tigress afterall. I underestimated her true value.

“I still don’t see the reason for approaching us for your half completed projects with Torio”, I said with a firm, unwavering stare towards the powerful lady beside me.

“We have a reason to believe that Torio’s balance sheet is not as clean as it seems and they are embezzling the funds released by us. The projects have no wonder overshot their deadlines”, Dane said.

“Mr. Andrew Robinson”, Katya started.

Oh I love the way she says my full name ! Can I just kiss those lips of my dear little kitte- no betrayer.

She lied to me ! Holy s**t, she just led me on for a complete month !!

She made such a fool of myself. I really don’t understand how to control the turmoil of emotions I am going through right now.

“I appreciate what you did last night but I believe that, that matter died down the minute you helped me out and stood by your values. However, you ought to believe me when I say this, that business and profit do not see who is who. We wish to legally pursue the matter about Torio only if we have a reliable partner who can complete our unfinished projects”, she said.

“What are these projects regarding ?”, Bryant asked with curiosity.

“Schools, hospitals, parks and residential projects solely for orphans along with old age homes on Milling Island”, Katya said.

My lips suddenly twisted into a one sided smile.

Now, I understood why Torio wasn’t bothering about these projects- majorly because they won’t generate any profits from the running costs ! No wonder they had resorted to stealing from the funds when they had the chance.

“This is not a business idea, Ms. Cahill”, Bryant protested. “This is more of charity on one of the country’s biggest islands !”, he said.

“I thought you guys would be quick enough to realize a killer opportunity here. But boy, I was so wrong”, Katya smirked as Bryant turned completely red.

“Generating revenue from the commercial shopping complexes and faculty residences seems to be very tempting, Ms. Cahill but why don’t you build the infrastructure from your own resources ? I have heard that your enterprise looks into the construction business too”, I pointed out flatly.

“You are good”, she appreciated. “But there is a difference between our companies, Mr. Robinson”, she said as she leaned her head to the back of the chair and played with the pen between her fingers which was looking truly hot on her.

“You can’t be serious ?”, I said coldly as my eyes turned narrower. “Your only obstacle is getting a license from the government ?”, I asked.

“You really have a pretty sharp mind, Sir”, Katya smirked as she continued staring up at the ceiling with her head leaning on the back of the chair with her lean body in an utterly calm and strongly upright position.

Inspite of seeming so relaxed everyone could feel her authority, including me which I had never noticed earlier for a f*****g whole month !

“Rovio is considered a foreign company as I had started and registered it in the States. Hence, the policies of this country won’t allow us to even touch that island”, she said in a matter of tone voice.

“What are your terms then ?”, I asked in the business tone that I often used making even the big shot clients cower in fear, which was not only dominating but forceful.

“Nothing”, Katya said simply with no emotion in her eyes as she continued watching the ceiling. “Just provide us the infrastructure before the deadline set by your team. Any amount of money demanded from your side shall be promptly released”, she added.

“If you want I can get you a ladder to reach that ceiling”, I smugged as her team gasped in shock at my sudden sarky comment.

I believe they had never seen or heard anyone make a cheeky statement to her. I understand that feeling as no one dared to do the same to me.

But the feeling of betrayal was making me feel vengeful. Hence, the malicious remark.

“You could instead get a ladder and get those cigarette puff marks removed from there which I believe you know about personally”, she smirked back at me, this time her eyes staring right into mine.

Fuck !

She is so cruelly brilliant !!

I never told her about my dark days or my past with Ellene but this Sherlock of a lady deduced that the only person who could have the guts to smoke in a conference room would be none other than me.

I am guessing that by the look of the greyish tinge at some spots of the ceiling, she already knows about how much hell I must be going through to puff away those insane number of cigarettes to cause those eyesore grey spots on the top of the room.

Shit. s**t. s**t

This is so f*****g embarrassing.

My kitten surely knows how to turn the tide to her favour, I thought proudly.

“I believe you all are pretty stressed with your ongoing projects as the ceiling shows. Rovio can look elsewhere for our projects”, she continued deliberately.

I decided to bring back our focus to the meeting as I could feel the others get uneasy.

“Astrax will be more than happy to help anyone who takes the initiative to serve society, Ms. Cahill. My team will get in touch with yours for the legalities concerned and for drawing up the agreement”, I said as we all stood up.

“Dane will stay in touch with you”, she said as she shook my hand and started to leave.

“This is the first time that the Chairman of Rovio has graced our company with her presence. We would be privileged if Ms. Cahill will consider joining me for dinner”, I said.

I wanted her to stay back with me so badly.

I really wanted to ask her so many questions and demand the truth that why did she lie to me but the feeling that topped them all was that I wanted my kitten back in my arms.

I wanted to make it up to her for last night’s ugly events but punish her as well for leading me on.

“Ms. Cahill has had a long day and I am afraid that she won’t b-”, Dane was suddenly interrupted.

“I would love to accept your invitation, Mr. Robinson. The rest of you can give me a detailed report for Astrax’s cooperation and withdraw our project from Torio’s hands by then”, she ordered her team members as she turned towards them.

She gave a few more instructions to her subordinates before she walked back to my office with me.

I was surely amazed with this dynamic personality walking beside me who had left me drooling when she was instructing her team to the smallest detail which even I won’t have even thought of !

No wonder Rovio is what it is today- truly remarkable and successful.
