Chapter four.
Matilda POV
■■■■
I smile as I notice the flowers, Dylan has sent to me
“Can't wait to see you tonight.
Love you”
My heart swells reading the note he wrote.
Dylan is super nice to me.
He holds my bag while we walk.
He is a little shy, but he is still so sweet.
The best thing is that we are good friends.
I love being with him.
And now we are a couple.
I would have slept with him long back, but he wanted to make this special.
So, we waited until the prom.
But we made out in every corner of the school.
But it was just a kiss.
No handsie and all
“Matilda.
There's a customer”
I groaned as I heard Denise's voice.
I serve as the cashier and a waitress
Sometimes as an assistant chef too.
And also sometimes as a cleaner.
So, I'm like all-in-one in this Café.
Checking my phone once again to make sure I have no calls, I walk out of the kitchen.
I notice the younger girl who holds her father tight.
I serve them, with a smile on my face.
Not only that, but I don't really remember how my childhood was.
Not only that, but I was in the boarding school for most of the part after losing my mom.
And thereafter,we came here.
I met Hailey and her family.
Also, Riya and instantly loved it here..
We took an apartment for rent, but dad went missing for days, so I had to pick a job to pay the dues.
But thank God, mom had some savings left or else I would have had to drop out of school too.
I have no dreams of college.
Maybe I'll find another job, so I can take a better care of myself than eating the leftover breads or always hanging at Hailey's to eat a proper meal.
But I have applied to top colleges.
Hopefully, if I get a scholarship I can plan for college.
maybe I can do multiple jobs, save till I have enough to take a breathe..
so one day ,I can live a good life
“Hello”
I looked up, hearing a strong voice, and my throat ached as I saw the man in front of me.
he was a vision to the pale eyes
“Hi, Welcome to Denise's Café.
My name is Matilda.
What can I get you?”
I spoke out, nervously, as I stood behind the cash counter.
And I had the urge to adjust my red long hair which fell down my eyes
“Matilda”
He took my name and I notice the way his lips moved before I looked away
But this man was gorgeous.
I get it, I have a boyfriend, but he is just too handsome in his Armani suit
And he is definitely not from here.
His rich suit enhanced his features.
It screams power.
not to forget his thick accent ,definitely not from here
“What's your favorite?”
He asked, no expression on his face
And I took a minute to notice his green, piercing eyes..
maybe it was hazel in color with a golden ring that made it so much better, with his thick lashes
and not to forget his black hair, neatly trimmed.
“Well, the blueberry pie is the town's favorite.
You are lucky, we have one last piece unsold.
Usually, we are always sold”
I smiled, proudly.
“I'll take that.
Is blueberry your favorite?”
He asked!
And I didn't know why he would ask me that.
“It is.
I like the berries”
My cheeks were going red, feeling his hot gaze on me.
I could melt at the intensity of his stare.
He was too damn hot like a model.
maybe he was one..
Packing the pie, I took a card.
No way a man like this is single.
“You want me to write a note or something?
Looks like you have a date”
I casually asked him that, well I was just being curious.
“I do.
But she doesn't know about it yet”
His eyes held mine.
And I licked my lips
Like an reaction
“Blind date, I assume.
And surprises are always fun”
I grinned.
If he is what we get in blind dates as a surprise, no women will ever complain.
I wish Hailey and riya can see him once.
They would die, swooning.
“Your mine”
His words stayed unreal, as I looked up.
And shaking my head, I wrote the two letters on the card.
He meant for his date…
“Okay.
Here you go.
I'll add a few milk made chocolate too ,to
impress her.
I'm certain, she will love the surprise”
I threw in some chocolates as I walked towards the billing counter.
“So can I get your name?”
I asked
To bill
And he didn't talk.
He just stared at me.
His eyes never once blinking as he parted his lips
“Hendrick”
His name suited him.
But it was his deep, rich voice that was better on his lips…
And I quickly typed in the letters...
“It will be eleven dollars”
I placed the bill on the desk as I pushed the cover towards him.
And he reached to his pocket, as he took out a hundred dollar
Placed it on the counter
“Huh, let me search for the change”
I fumbled over the desk as I looked through the drawers
these days everyone pays through cards,so searching for change felt like an eternity.
“Here”
Finally I put the change on the table but only to realize that he was gone.
I didn't even hear him leave…
He didn't even say a bye.
Dick
I shrugged.
But I notice the card left on the table
“Your mine”
Shaking my head, I threw it in the trash can.
Telling Denise that I will have to leave early as I have to get ready for the prom, I texted Dylan
“Where did you book the hotel?
I'm slightly nervous”
And his reply was quick
“On the outskirts.
And I love you.
It will be the best night of our lives”
I smiled reading the text
And I replied him back
“Love you too.
See you in three hours.
Can't wait for tonight”
I filled the text with lots of heart and kiss emojis as I sent.
“Matilda.
Throw the waste outside.
And you can leave.
I will close the place after some time.
It's too soon to call the night off.”
Denise called from the kitchen.
And smiling to see Dylan texts with tons of heart stickers, I grabbed the bags to discard, as I took the back door.
I should probably get back to Hailey's home soon.
And thank her mom first for letting me borrow of her dress because I couldn't have afforded one.
And also, I should call riya to ask her to do my make up
I wanted to look good for Dylan…
“Excuse me”
I heard a voice and I turned my head to see who it was.
But I felt a spray hit my face.
And all I saw us darkness, as I let out a startled scream.
