Lisa’s POV
The door to my room creaked open, pulling my attention from the book in my hands. I noticed my father stood at the door, his eyes wide, panic etched deep into his face—a look I’d never seen on him before.
“Lisa, you need to leave. Right now,” he urged, rushing toward me and yanking me out of my bed. His arms wrapped around me in a tight, desperate hug before he cupped my face in both hands. “I’m so sorry, Lisa. I’m so sorry,” he whispered, his voice trembling with fear.
I stared at him, utterly confused. This was my father—a strong wolf, a warrior—and yet, he looked terrified, as though death itself was chasing him.
“Father, what’s going on?” My voice cracked with fear as I searched his face for answers. Whatever had frightened my father this much had to be serious.
“Listen, Lisa, you have to leave right now. Come with me,” my father urged, and before I could ask what was happening, he pulled me out of my room and down the stairs. Reaching the living room, I noticed my father’s best friend, Silas, waiting for us. Just like my father, he looked scared, which made my heart race even more.
“Father, please, tell me what’s happening!” I pleaded, glancing between the two of them.
My Father turned to me, placing a kiss on my forehead, then cupped my face again. “Everything will be explained later, but right now, you have to leave with Silas. He will take you somewhere safe. Please don’t ask me questions; your safety is all that matters,” he pleaded, his eyes filled with a fear I had never seen in him before.
I tried to open my mouth to speak, but Father cut me off. “You have to leave now,” he pleaded desperately before looking toward Silas. “Please take care of my daughter,” he urged, and Silas nodded, taking hold of my hand.
“Let’s go, Lisa. We don’t have time,” Silas said urgently.
Silas’s grip on my hand tightened as he led me toward the back door. I glanced over my shoulder, hoping for one last look at my father, but his eyes were focused elsewhere—staring toward the front door, as if expecting something or someone to barge in at any moment.
I swallowed the lump forming in my throat, fear creeping up my spine. What was happening? Why was everyone so scared? I had so many questions, but the way my father’s voice had trembled and the way his hands shook as he held me… I knew better than to argue. Something was terribly wrong.
Silas guided me outside, where the cool night air hit my face like a slap. It was eerily quiet, except for the sound of distant rustling leaves.
“We need to move quickly, Lisa,” Silas muttered under his breath, pulling me toward a black SUV hidden among the trees. His normally composed demeanor was gone, replaced by nervous glances over his shoulder.
I got into the car, my hands trembling as I fumbled with the seatbelt. Silas jumped into the driver’s seat, and without another word, we sped off, leaving my home behind. I pressed my face to the window, watching the trees blur past. My heart ached as I thought of my father. What could be so dangerous that he would send me away like this?
“Silas,” I finally whispered, unable to bear the silence any longer. “What’s going on? Why did my father send me away? I deserve to know.”
Silas kept his eyes on the road, his jaw clenched tight, but he didn’t respond.
My stomach churned with unease. “Silas, where are we going?” I asked, my voice shaky.
He didn’t answer. His knuckles whitened as he gripped the steering wheel, eyes locked straight ahead. I felt trapped, suffocated. Panic surged through me. I reached for the door handle, but Silas’s hand shot out, grabbing my wrist with bone-crushing force. “Don’t even think about it,” he growled, his voice low and menacing.
“Something is wrong,” my wolf whispered in my mind. My heart pounded. “What… what are you doing?”
He gave a bitter, humorless laugh. “This is a good opportunity, Lisa—a good opportunity to make money off you!”
I gasped, pulling away from him, but there was nowhere to go. “What are you talking about? My father trusted you!”
“Your father,” Silas spat, his eyes glinting with malice, “should be dead by now.”
The world seemed to spin, my breath coming in short, sharp bursts. “No… no, you’re lying!”
Silas smirked. “I’m afraid not. The Alpha King might have killed him by now—he is paying for his crimes.” Silas scoffed, and suddenly the car came to a screeching halt. Before I could react, rough hands yanked the door open. I barely registered the faces of the rogues standing outside, their grins twisted and cruel. They pulled me out of the car, their grip tight and rough. Just as I thought of shifting into my wolf, a mental choker was clamped around my neck, and instantly I felt my wolf go silent, as if she were dead.
“My wolf…” I stuttered in fear and panic as I realized what was around my neck—a magical choker that suppressed my wolf and abilities. “No! No!” I tried shouting, but suddenly tape was forcefully wrapped around my lips, sealing them shut.
“My money,” Silas demanded, stretching his hand forward. One of the rogues, a middle-aged man with black hair and brown eyes who seemed like the leader, stepped forward and handed a bag to Silas.
“I hope she’s a virgin like you claimed,” the man asked, and my eyes widened as tears of fear pricked my eyes.
Silas nodded. “Of course she is. You can check it here if you don’t believe me,” he suggested, and fear gripped me. I couldn’t believe this was happening. Silas, my father’s most trusted friend, whom my father had helped on so many occasions, was betraying him. Instead of hiding me safely, he was selling me to rogues.
“I’ll trust your word,” the leader said, and Silas smirked as he looked in my direction.
“Enjoy your new life, Lisa,” Silas sneered as I struggled against the rogues, panic surging through my veins.
I screamed, thrashing in their grip, but my strength was no match for theirs. One of them brought a rag to my face and a sickeningly sweet smell filled my senses. Suddenly, the world around me began to blur. My limbs grew heavy, and no matter how hard I tried to stay awake, I found myself falling into unconsciousness.
