Back from the dead

Alpha Nathan’s POV Along with my men, we marched into the building, pushed the door open, and there he was—Gamma Titus—standing in the center of the room, all alone, with a blank expression on his face. I glared at him as memories of what happened twenty years ago replayed in my head. I was just ten years, and my mother had hidden me under the wardrobe. I could still hear her urging me not to make a sound, not to say a word, no matter what happened or what I saw. I was so terrified, but I nodded and remained under the closet. Soon, two men entered the room—him and another man. They asked my mother about me, but she told them they were too late, that I was already gone and they would never find me. The men got angry and brutally killed my mother right before my eyes while I watched. They slaughtered her, cut her head off, and walked away with it. That sight made me faint, and when I woke up, I realized I wasn’t under the closet. I was in an unfamiliar room with a younger girl my age seated beside me and an older woman. They both had relieved looks on their faces and smiled at me. “Don’t worry, my lord, you are safe here.” I blinked as I returned to reality and glared at the man before me—the very one who had slaughtered my mother. The face of the man who has been imprinted in my memory. The man who made me the beast I am today. The man I’ve craved to kill for the past twenty years. “You…” I grunted as I stepped forward, but he didn’t move an inch. “I believe you thought I was dead, right? That’s what you told my uncle,” I said through gritted teeth. Titus swallowed hard, his face shifting into something resembling relief. “I’m glad you’re alive,” he said, his tone unsettlingly calm, as if he was pleased. “What do you take me for? A fool? That I didn’t know you were hiding behind the closet?” he asked, and my rage intensified. “I saw you, I noticed you, I smelled your scent, but I didn’t want to kill you. I didn’t want to obey your uncle’s request, so I let you live and killed your mother instead. Please forgive me; I had no choice!” he said. Before I could react, Titus pulled a knife from behind him and sliced his own throat. “No!” I yelled and rushed to him, but it was already too late. His wound was deep, and blood was gushing out. “No, you can’t die so easily. No, this is not it! I can’t let you have a peaceful death!” I screamed, shaking him frantically, but it was too late. He was already dead! “No!” I screamed at the top of my voice. This was not how I imagined it. This was not the type of death I had planned for him. No, not this! With rage, I glared at his lifeless body as my anger intensified. I had built so much hate and anger inside me. This wasn’t how I had imagined his death. I had spent twenty years plotting his death—thinking of ways to make him suffer, to make him beg for the mercy I would never grant. And now, he was dead by his own hand, escaping the pain I had so carefully planned for him. “Alpha, what do we do?” James, the head warrior, asked, but I couldn’t respond. My entire being was burning with rage and revenge, and someone had to feel it. Someone had to suffer for what he did to me. “Where is his family? His children? Wife?" I snarled through gritted teeth. “Alpha, no one is here. Gamma Titus has only one daughter, but it seems she has escaped,” James announced, and my eyes widened with rage and hate. He has a daughter? Really? Then she will feel my wrath. The sins of her father are passed on to her. “She can’t escape! Send men to find her!” I demanded, and James nodded before leaving with a few men. With one final look, I glared at the lifeless body of Gamma Titus, his blood spilling on the floor, and I groaned while a devilish smirk spread across my face. “You’ve escaped my wrath, fine. But your daughter will not. I will make sure of that!” I muttered those words as a promise before getting to my feet. “Bring his body along,” I gestured to the men before leaving the house. Upon reaching the pack house, I noticed all the domestic servants lined up, waiting for me. As I approached them, I could see the fear in their eyes. To them, I was a monster, but why wouldn’t they think so? I had killed my uncle, their Alpha, and his wife right before them. Luckily, my uncle had no child. If not, they would have suffered the same fate. “Greetings, Alpha,” they greeted in unison, but I ignored them and walked into the living room, where I met four elders seated on the couch, waiting for me. The moment they saw me, they stood to their feet and bowed respectfully. “Welcome, Alpha Nathan. It is a miracle that you are alive,” one of the men spoke, his eyes glinting with pure happiness, but I ignored him and took a seat on the single-seater couch, gesturing for them to sit. The room was thick with tension as I sat before the four elders. They stared at me in disbelief, their eyes wide with fear and shock. For two decades, they had believed I was dead—thanks to my uncle’s treachery. But now, here I was, alive and seated before them, ready to reclaim what was rightfully mine. “Alpha Nathan…” Elder Hugo finally spoke, his voice trembling slightly. “We… we thought you were gone. Your uncle…” “My uncle is dead,” I cut him off, my tone cold. “I took what was mine. His treachery ended the moment I slit his throat.” The elders exchanged uneasy glances. They hadn’t expected this. They had been loyal to my uncle for years, thinking no one was left to challenge his reign. But I was here now, and they had no choice but to fall in line. “You have grown so much and look just like your late father. The last time I saw you, you were just a little boy,” Elder Magus, the eldest among them, said with a smile, but I frowned. I saw everyone as a traitor, all of them. “Well, I am no longer that little boy. I am now your Alpha,” I muttered, my voice commanding. “I have taken back my pack.” “Of course, Alpha,” Elder Hugo quickly nodded, his gaze dropping to the floor. “We serve the true Alpha of this pack. Your return is… a miracle.” “A miracle?” I scoffed. “No, Hugo. It’s bound to happen.” The elders looked nervously at each other, unsure of how to proceed. They hadn’t anticipated that I would survive the assassination attempt my uncle had ordered, much less come back to claim the throne. “We will tell the town crier to officially announce your return,” Elder Magus said, and I nodded. “Also, you will be coronated tomorrow,” he added, but I remained numb. Being the Alpha wasn’t really my concern. All I wanted was to make Gamma Titus suffer, and now he had escaped that. “We are so sorry for not standing against your uncle. Everyone thought you were dead, and there was no evidence against him, so we couldn’t do anything. No one could,” Elder Magus spoke, his voice filled with regret. My frown deepened. “Keep your apologies to yourself. I don’t need them,” I said rudely. The elders exchanged worried glances before looking back at me. “We are happy you are back, and the pack is already rejoicing at your return. We believe you will rule just like your father,” Elder Magus said, but I gave no response. A tense silence hung in the air before I spoke again. “I will lead this pack as best as I can, and anyone who dares to betray me or do anything foolish will suffer the consequences.” The elders nodded, their faces pale. “And as for Gamma Titus,” I continued, my voice darkening, “his bloodline will feel my wrath. His daughter will pay for what he did.” The room was silent, the weight of my words settling like a storm. “Let the rest of the pack know,” I said, my voice echoing through the room. “Alpha Nathan has returned.” They nodded and bowed before leaving the room. Just then, James walked into the living room, dragging a terrified man along with him. “Alpha, this man is Titus’s closest friend,” James explained. “He may know where the daughter is.” I stood, glaring at the man before me. “Speak,” I commanded, my voice like ice. The man hesitated, trembling under my gaze. “I don’t know where she is!” he lied, and my wolf, which had been silent, growled inside of me. “You are lying to me, old man, and I won’t hesitate to kill you,” I threatened, watching as he swallowed hard. “Now speak, or I will slice your throat.” He gulped nervously before opening his mouth to speak. “He asked me to take his daughter to the Forest Pack and hide her there, but I sold her to rogues who buy and auction people.” My blood boiled. “Where?” I snarled. He hesitated, and I grabbed him by the collar, lifting him off the ground. “Where?” “Please!” he begged. “I’ll tell you everything, just don’t kill me.” I released him, my eyes blazing with rage. “You better start talking.”
