Ignoring the shuffling of Omegas serving dinner, Jagson watched the gray haired beauty sharply turn away from his stare. Perhaps it was because he had seen her before within his pack walls, but he could not ignore a sharp pain of familiarity that hit him the moment her blue eyes met his. He grabbed the arm of the omega pouring wine into his cup.
“Tell me mutt, what is her name” he demanded, pointing at Cora’s back.
“Alpha, her name is Cora, she is the adopted daughter of Ringo and Portia.” The servant answered. Jagson released her arm and motioned for her to continue making her rounds around the tables. He took a bite of his food as he pondered why her face looked so familiar. To his right he heard his Beta, Maverick clear his throat. Apparently the boy had been trying to get his attention while he was lost in trance.
“What is it Maverick” he grunted. “Sir, I was hoping we could set aside a time later this evening to review the boundary lines” Maverick replied. “ After last weeks attack, we should really start to examine our defenses to the west wall and the Onyx Lake” he continued.
Jagson nodded his head. The rogues of the rebellion had become more brazen in their attempts infiltrate his castle. Five of them had made it past their defenses in the Forrest by way of the lake which is almost unheard of. Local legend spoke of the Lake as haunted, perhaps even poisoned, yet some how the rogues had managed to travel it and breach his boundaries. No matter to him as they were caught and he personally tore their heads from their bodies. He left them on pikes outside his gates for any and all shifter to see. Jagson had one goal, all will bow to him, by any cost.
“That’s fine Maverick. Assemble the gammas and the rest of the council in the map room after supper. I’ll hear your ideas then” he grumbled. Maverick nodded his head. “As you wish Alpha”.
“Tell me Maverick. What do you know of the girl called Cora, the one with hair the color of coal ash, and her eyes a blue. A dark blue but a brilliant one” he inquired. Maverick cleared his throat.
“Alpha, I only know she is a twin. She and her sister Nova are the two that were found outside the stables. I believe they are only a few years younger then myself” “ I would have to confirm with omega census, but I believe they serve as staff within the castle.”
Jagson looked at him. “Bring me that information as well when we meet later, I want to know more of this girl, Cora” he said her name as a twisted dark smile filled his face.
“Yes Alpha” was Maverick’s reply.
Maverick waited until Jagson’s attention shifted back to the poor omega pouring him yet another cup of wine. Jessa her name was. From the look in the girls eyes he knew she was aware of the King’s intent. Maverick sighed inwardly. Jagson would be having his way with her tonight, after their meeting. He knew that meant he would be gathering the girl from the Alpha chambers the next morning. Hopefully alive, but surely broken In more ways then one. Maverick waited a few moments while the Alpha kept his attentions on Jessa. As soon as he felt it was safe, he motioned another Omega as though he too wanted a second drink. As she began to pour, his hand found hers. He slipped her the paper he had been clutching. He felt the Alpha shift so he made a show of tweaking her on her Ass, seemingly flirting himself. The girl rushed off, eager to escape the Kings gaze. Maverick smiled at his Alpha.
“Playful bunch we have tonight, Sir” he laughed. Looking over at Jessa, Jagson voiced his agreement. “Playful indeed” he sneered, turning back to his plate.
Maverick let out a small sigh of relief as the King moved on in subject with Felix and Nica. He hated serving as this mans Beta. He had to play his cards right, or he would lose his own life , much like his father before him. Besides, not only was he responsible for the lives of everyone in the pack, but mostly for his Mother, Isla. Jagson kept her locked up in a room in the castle. His “special” guest. She did not suffer, enough had been done when the King whisked Maverick away at the age of 14 to serve under him. He had beaten Isla for her protest. Broken her nose and ribs, and even though she had healed from the physical injuries, he was not convinced she wouldn’t act up again. So he had her locked in a room where he could keep control of her. Maverick was allowed to see his Mother once a month. He was determined to keep her safe and so he served his Alpha by will. Maverick felt himself shudder at the thought of his mother. What he wouldn’t give to free her, free himself. He wanted nothing more then to give the Onyx Lake Pack as a whole independence from this tyrant but it took time and he knew that. Soon enough, he thought to himself. Soon we will all be able to live without fear of losing our heads to this man. As he was finishing the last of his meal he felt a sudden shift in the energy of the room. He lifted his head sharply. “Do you feel that” came the voice of his wolf, Havoc. “What is it” he replied, scanning the room for the source of energy.
“Her “ Havoc growled. Mavericks eyes landed on the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. She had hair the color of chestnuts. It fell down her back in waves as she worked to clear dishes from the dinner. Her green eyes sparkled as she seemed to dance around the table. He felt his mouth water at the likely smoothness of her pale skin. He recognized her. She was the sister to the girl the King had inquired about.
“Havoc, I have known this girl her whole life, what is it about her tonight ?” He questioned his wolf. He could feel the beast pawing within him.
“I do not know young friend, but Goddess, she calls to me” Havoc whined. “You and me both” Maverick replied. Maverick jumped when the girl caught his glance. Great. She had caught him staring like some animal. She quickly lowered her head and rushed back toward the kitchen, her arms piled high with dishes from pack members. Maverick shook his head at himself. “We need to take a mate, and soon” snarled Havoc. “It’s been too long since you felt the presence of a woman and I need out”.
Maverick issued his own growl at his wolf. “The women of the Onyx Lake Pack already live in fear of their Alpha, you wish them to feel the same for their Beta” he snapped at his wolf. He felt Havoc whimper, knowing his words were true. “You speak truth my friend, but it doesn’t quell the loneliness inside”
Maverick sighed again as he felt Havoc retreat back to his mind. He stood, shaking off the feeling he had from the girl. It was unusual to see her in the dining hall. He knew she mostly worked with the horses, along side her father. He didn’t have time for this distraction. He had a task at hand. But first, he needed to round up members of the Elite council for the meeting in the Map room.
