Chapter NineLost in thought, Daniel wandered to the lake and sat down on the damp ground. The weather had clouded over somewhat, but the stark beauty of the place still dominated everything. The iron-grey surface of the water, as undisturbed as a polished mirror, reflected the gradually darkening sky, but the backdrop of the mountains, majestic and towering, calmed him. Their permanence and their immense size filled him with a curious kind of courage. They had been here for so long, had seen so much, and nothing had changed them. He took comfort from that.
